I've been getting a lot of

Listener for "Default": 27/05/2011 00:23:06, Problems communicating with bitcoin RPC

for about two minutes and then it worked

Also is it bad that I kinda randomly stop my miner when I need the GPU? Does it hurt others in some way?

I've been getting 404s, 502s and 504s quite often today, including a couple in the last 15 minutes or so. On the regular web interface, not on the miners.

Yes, my fault, I'm sorry. Should be finally fixed.

Without longpole us little miners are dead in the water

Why? Long polling does not affect mining profit so much. Of course it improve stale rate a bit, but mostly it is performance optimization on pool side...

On the other side, I don't understand why (with current difficulty) is somebody still mining with CPU Smiley

hashing bad getworks is a loss ... quiting too soon just to get another getwork is a waste

as to Why I'm still using cpu's  .. there free and still work

With current difficulty it should give me something like 5BTC per day @ 9$/BTC...
Don't you just take 1BTC/block?

I was talking about my mining rig, of course.

With current pool speed at 500GHas/s it will take in average almost exactly one hour to find a block.

Wow...lucky you at least have the pool fees cause otherwise you'll soon be making 1 BTC per day. If BTC price is greater than or equal to $10 that would still be a pretty damn good deal though - $300 a month.

Jesus h....it's nuts how much hashing power has been added to the network lately. It's as if everyone, their mother, father, cousin, and their dog bought a high end ATI card and started mining.

Yes, looks like difficulty 1.000.000 will be reached soon.

On the other side, when I started my current rig in January, it earned 100BTC per day @ 0.3$/BTC. With current difficulty it should give me something like 5BTC per day @ 9$/BTC...

Bitcoin difficulty changed, it is over 434000 now. With current pool speed at 500GHas/s it will take in average almost exactly one hour to find a block.

I got no credit for block 4850?
My miner was chugging away at ~360 Mh/s for the entire duration.
Does it have something to do with the recent difficulty jump?

And... fixed.

Block 4844 seems to have been calculated wrong. I don't think I went from 800mhash to 2 Smiley

edit: Fixed Smiley

The slower miners will get their shares in the next round. "Sweet spot" is a myth.

Amen.

Thanks guys for putting that one to rest.

score = score + exp(round_time/C)
C=300
As far as I understand the system (and the nature of exponential functions) the higher C the more valuable late shares are. In an ideal case C should be equal to a half of the average time the round lasts (more precisely the  average time a share is registered in the system during a round). If it's bigger it overvalues late shares (thus it's profitable to start later) if it's smaller it overvalues early shares (thus it's profitable to drop earlier). The changes, however, are not dramatic. 300s is 5 minutes, which - I guess - is a bit too low.
In this system, it is always more profitable to mine early in the round. And once the round is over, the later shares are always more valuable. C controls the balance between hopping-resistance and variance (high C = less variance, less resistance).

Edit - the above is valid only when a floating point math is used. When calculating using integers only it's most profitable to start participating in a round not earlier than at the time C.

When I started a few days ago slushs pool was at 380Ghash/s, now its over 500.
I wonder what the cause of this is. Many many new miners? People upgrading their rigs? Both?
