Can I ask why has the old site stats page changed? The columns/data for Your Shares and Your BTC Reward seem to have been removed.

I was sure that I read that no changes would be made to the old site (https://mining.bitcoin.cz/stats/) as many people said they wanted to stick with using that site.

I am in the middle of running my own pool comparison and so I have a spread sheet of all blocks found at each site and my reward for each of those blocks. All of the pools I have run this test on publish different pool stats, but the one common thing published by all pools is your reward per block (it's kinda the most important piece of information) so why has Slush removed this?

I know the new site shows the block rewards, but the stats info is different so would require a new set of columns in my spread sheet and thus means that I would not have continuous data throughout my (2 months and counting) test. Any chance someone could look at the old site and re-instate the missing columns please?

As a rule of thumb, for a solo mining to be reasonable, you need at least 1/2016 of the network hashrate, because you need to able to find at least 1 block each difficulty change (assuming 100% luck).
Otherwise you will be playing a catchup with the difficulty.

You can directly use the network hashrate from https://bitcoinwisdom.com/bitcoin/difficulty and compare it to your hashrate. Your percentage of the network is your chance of finding a block

Another way to calculate it is to comapre network diff to the number of diff 1 shares your hardware can provide instead. Network diff aims for 1 block each 10min, so your chance to find a block is the number of diff 1 shares you can provide for the same period vs network diff.
4.295GH/s = 1 share per second
1GH/s is approximately 140 shares per 10 min
10GH/s ~= 1397
100GH/s ~= 13970
1TH/s ~= 139700

Example:
 Network diff now is 39457671307
 Your hashrate is 3.5TH/s ~= 488950 diff 1 shares each 10 min
Your chance to find a block is 488950/39457671307*100 = 0,00123917601775%
To find a block before diff change 2016*0,00123917601775 = 2,49817885179%

I'm looking for a probability calculation that would let me calculate the odds for finding a block at a given hash rate and a given difficulty (or current difficulty) . Does such a thing exist?

I'm considering purchasing a mining contract for a solo pool (been running one here for the last month and doing OK) so I want to know what level of mining capability will bring me (statistically) a btc block.

Thanks for any info!

That will be like playing the lottery 100Th if you are very lucky around 19 days. Part of my hash are on a smaller pool 164 TH and we are 128 hours in. Stay with a pool. especially if you are going to rent hash.

hi,

i have made a actual mining pool comparison and calculation of what your expected earnings are at actual bitcoin difficulty rate per december 16th 2014:

thanks for your comments.

I like it fine.

I'll use your link to order one. Thanks

Cool, thanks Billbags. I have 3, one is from the preorders. I use it for every Bitcoin transaction I have done since owning them.

There is a bootstrap that you can download through BitTorrent which should catch you up faster.
Or just use Electrum and you don't have to download anything.  Wink

Thank you for your answer. bitcoin-qt is version 0.5.1-beta. And I just checked it again after letting it run for a while, and happily it has 5 connections now. Smiley And last block was 1050 days ago! So it'll be a while. Oh my lord, did I see that right? 20 GB size to see the latest BTC transactions? I only have 0.003 BTC coming, which is about $0.01. For 20 GB size I wonder if it's even worth it. Maybe I should wait until I get a better computer? This is an old 2010 one. What do you think?
UPDATE: Ok, just found the latest bitcoin-qt version, downloaded, running fine. It does notify me that it's out of sync, and connected faster to the servers, but surely will take a long time. Thanks for help. I feel stupid for not figuring it out myself, but meh, it's been years since I mined.

No worries, if you have the drive space and bandwidth I say let it run and sync up. Then you'll have your $1 and go from there! Welcome back..keep on mining!

Thank you 727m! My old laptop is only able to mine about 3000 kbps and nowhere near other's Gbps. I started this as a pilot long ago, to show a potential investor that it was real, and hoped for a 20 computer network but never got funded. Oh well. Have to proceed from here. So here's what I propose. I have researched into other areas since then, and have power production inventions on the tech side, and neocortical self-programming upgrades on the biological side. The first would significantly reduce miners' electric cost for mining, and the second shows people how to hard-"wire" new information directly into long term brain storage. I have autism, suffered a brain injury, and combined my investigations and rewiring (neurological) with understanding others' "savant" skills, to create a new method of remembering and learning. Increased memory and creativity result.

There are additional books and projects on which I'm working as I have time, but I am horribly cash-shy. No funds to invest in mining equipment, so I would like to find some of you with capital, and discuss options to help improve your lives or those of your choosing, so that I can earn BTC to launch some of the international projects (tech and education) which I have in mind, so that I can finally get out of poverty and improve the planetary standard of living.

Anyway, if you are open to discuss further, and/or can gather the veterans here who may remember me starting to at least have familiarity, then I would much appreciate it.

(And, the bitcoin program is caught up up to 3 years and 4 weeks ago, which means it's regrowing everything from the beginning. Hope my transactions appear.)

Have a great Monday!

Hi. I have been in stasis for over a year, and just now am returning to Slush and mining. So I found that my 0.003 BTC was never transferred, so lowered my threshold and it was transferred. But I checked my wallet and it didn't appear. So after chatting with another user for advice, I downloaded MultiBit which is an updated wallet program. Anyway, I it won't open my old wallet, so I went back to the old wallet and it says it's not synced. It says it's trying to sync, but won't connect to the Bitcoin servers (says "0 active connections to Bitcoin network", perpetually). Am I just screwed, and need to start all over with a new wallet using MultiBit, or is there a way to recover my old wallet using another program? It wont update, remember, and it's stuck, and there is a pending transaction from Slush for 0.003 BTC. Do I just shrug and lose that? Here is the block to prove the transaction, which I am unable to receive: http://www.blockchain.info/address/1JxJLf5kV9zxCAuCFqbeiY9YgQyNQ3icCd

Can any of you recommend a solution? I'd appreciate it. Thank you so much!

If you've been offline with your wallet for over a year it will probably take 24+ hours to resync depending on your bandwidth. What version of bitcoin-qt are you running?

You can update to the October-firmware, since the November-firmware is having some issues with low hashing speeds or drops Smiley

Okay so pretty new to the mining thing. I have an S3+ and an S3. Looking at the installed packages, my S3+ is running cgminer 3.12.0-1 and my S3 is running 4.6.1-1. I there is a downloadable for an upgrade of cgminer and was wondering if there was any upside to doing it? Any advice would be appreciated. Also some idea of how to install if needed would be good. Have tried the Find Package option on the Software page but it does little. The update lists returns an error too.

Any advice of guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Regards
Mick
