for all you people new to bitcoin mining, it all evens out over time.

is mining for bitcoin still profitable? I stopped mining with my 1 th rig about 3 months ago because it was costing me more to run than i was making.
You were mining for the wrong reasons. It may cost you more to mine than you make at the present moment, but if you have faith in the bitcoin system then you'd know that in the long run you'll make more from your stashed away coins than you paid to mine them in the first place. That, ma friend, is the rub!

Have faith? Is this a cult now? There are no good reasons to believe BTC will rise much at all now. The "gold rush" days are long gone, I made mine with a farm of 10 gigahash Block Eruptor blades. Back when difficulty was less than the average jump this year. Since then any gear costs more than it makes before you pay for electricity, any money made in this years gold rush is by those selling you the shovels. Back to BTC, companies like Coinbase are doing a great job making it easier for merchants and consumers alike to use BTC. To a certain extent if more people use BTC as currency that will create downward pressure on its value. If there is a huge swing to using it as currency creating more demand than what is available, of course that will cause an increase in BTC value. It will also create demand for a "new and improved!" product and BTC will collapse. Like My Space did with Facebook. Yeah...keep up the faith.
It is easy to pick one word in a sentence, create your own context around that one word in complete disregard to its original context, and make some convoluted arguments around that, just like in religion (cue your comparison of BTC to MySpace)!
1. If you do not think (even believe) that BTC that is currently being mined at a loss (or in my case a small profit) will NOT remain low, then do not mine.
2. The shovels that you refer to take the form of cloud and physical rigs, choose either or none at all. I choose the rigs.
3. So you made your million dollars back in the day, why stick around like a bad smell? I bet you are looking for your next million.

I'm urged to comment on all this here.

I agree 100% with what you said.... you cant count your chickens before they hatch or w.e that saying is.

However,  I often read nad hear people saying you cant make a living off of Bitcoin mining.  However I have been doing many many calculations of different types of setups.   And I've come to the conclusion that.  Yes.  You can make a living off of it.  But having say a part time job would help greatly.

This depends on what you use for hydro.   I'd use solar power or hydro electric(Water as my conductor)   thus cutting my hydro cost in half.

Having the right amount of equiptment.  Sometimes the best of the best miners isnt always the best.

Sometimes having slow miners will give you a better result and less costs.

But again it all comes back to the waiting game.    If your impatient...Dont bother.  If your patient... than go for it all out.

This is everyone own opinion.  My thought though.... you could make a living off of BTC mining it all depends on your setup and all

Well.  People keep adding so much more hashing power and removing it all the time...Thus it brings us long blocks.    If we stayed at 1 simple speed without it changing like 2-5+ times in just 1 week.      It sucks a week or so ago.  We were solving blocks like it was raining.   Now.  We solving them like turtles.    Slow and Steadily.

I wonder if people will stop hopping and increasing/decreasing their hash power.

Who am i kidding..... Why would people stop... that would be to easy

Hey guys, I'm trying to find this info...

Is there a way to see the complete block history for slush's pool? The web interface only shows the last 30 blocks and I'd like to do some math that requires a bigger sample... If anyone has the info I'd apreciate it!

http://mining.bitcoin.cz/stats/?history=1000
That's the last 1000. The earliest stats are lost, but you might be able to get more than 1000 from Slush directly.

You sir are awesome! Thanks!
Don't thank me, thank this guy.

“Blockchain Just Entered The Real World”
I use my ASIC's at home to generate BTC so I can purchase Hashing power at Zenportal. So far I've been able to get 40Gh/s at about $0.50 per Gh/s. I also use a bit to play on the coin exchanges. and it's 100% from Slush's pool  Wink

this is why I keep my lower efficiency machines running, but I also have higher efficiency machines which still make a profit.

Have been mining with Slush for a while now. I found that it was best when I "set it and forget it." I just made sure to check my hashrate twice a day to make sure none of the miners had any issues going on. Otherwise, I treated this like my retirement account -- let it ride! We are in this for the long haul. Am I right?  Wink

In the old GUI it is confirmed and paid. You mean the 1 day 1h 46 min block, right?
