^ it's definitely appreciated Grin

Note: please check this out, it's probably the best explanation of Bitcoin I've ever seen. The link goes to page 10 but use the links in the top left to go back through the other 9 pages.

Thanks for the descriptive explanation.

I've been going to the following link for updates on difficulty:

https://bitcoinwisdom.com/bitcoin/difficulty

Then, I would post them here just to give members the heads up.

^ since you been on the forum I don't have to do the math anymore!!! I do appreciate the info. I forgot I said I was going to start calling you numb3rs.....

This is the block chain's control theory feedback loop:

60minhr∗24hrday∗7dayweek 10minblock=2016 in 2weeks

Tcurrent=Tprior∗tprior/2weeks

D=work/2(32)=2(256)/(Tcurrent+1)∗2(32)

hashes/second≈D∗2(32)/600

The current target for the block chain is determined by a calculation, so any two clients looking at the block chain will calculate the same target. This calculation aims to adjust the target such that one block will be mined every 10 minutes, no matter how much total computing power is devoted to mining. The target changes every 2016 blocks based on the timestamps within those blocks. Why 2016? Because Satoshi decided two weeks was a good interval, and at 10 minutes per block, 2016 blocks will be mined every two weeks.

When 2016 blocks take more than two weeks to mine, the target goes up to make mining easier; when they take less than two weeks, the target goes down to make mining harder. In symbols, if Tprior is the previous target and tprior is the time it took to mine 2016 blocks using that target, then the updated target Tcurrent is just.

The target is typically a huge number well in excess of 2(200). Also it goes down as the total hashing power of the miners goes up. Consequently, interested people usually think in terms of the difficulty instead. Definition: The Bitcoin difficulty is the average number of nonces you have to try to find a valid block — aka. the work — divided by 2(32)(roughly 4 billion).

Note that D is just a number for human consumption. It scales in direct proportion to the computational effort required for mining, so twice the difficulty means twice the effort.

If we know the current difficulty D, we can estimate how fast all miners are hashing in aggregate. On average, it takes D∗2(32) hashes to find a nonce that works, and the target is selected to make that take 10 minutes.

What's the diff in price?

Edit: Make sure you check desables. Most miners other than bitmain are LOUD. I have two Rockminer RK-Boxes that sound as loud as a big vaccum machine.
these are loud hence why i got the wifi so i can set in my garage in an area i dont have cable ran for the 20 dollar mod it was worth not having to break out a drill etc lmao the fan puts out crazy cfm and pressure link below

I understand as I was really wanting to stay with a all in one like s3's and my cointerra however i was able to sell my cointerra and one s3 on ebay to buy 1 prisma with rpi and image and wifi and had the btc i mined last month from those 2 to get the other i will hash 1th/s faster and use 1000w less power so for me it was an easy decision the gui that crazy has running on the connected pi makes it pretty straight forward 8 pool failover etc is nice and since wifi wont be as affected with network issues by using same usb port for network traffic and connecting the prisma's the S4 was just as much an investment as PSU's if I needed as I would need to make some electrical changes Etc buying appropriate power cords and having outlets rated to handle the load so for me personally 1100 dollars for 2.8th/s was the better route even having to buy psu i could of gotten 4 650w for prob 100-200 max  Grin

Understand, makes sense.

My miners will be staying in a coat closet downstairs adjacent to the garage.  Looking forward to showing y'all pics when I'm done with it.  I think I've pretty much made up my mind on the S4's.  Especially, since they fixed the PSU issue and Slush allows diff setting now.

I also like purchasing from the manufacturer with a good warranty.  Not doubting the Prisma has a good warranty.  I'm sure they probably do.  Going with the S4 now for more familiarity.

WOW.

I know the S4 starts up loud then it quiets down after it starts mining.

Watch this video on the S4 starting up and see how loud it is at first.  It then quiets down once it starts hashing.

Ya, it plugs into the pi which has mining software on it. Again I recommend the pi or A10cubie over the BE controller.

Which do you think is better, pi or A10cubie?
Pi is cheaper I have PSU's and you only need 1200 watts which can be split such as 650w controlling 2 of the 4 boards and a 650 on other 2 since 4 independent boards make one prisma

okay, thank you.

Sounds fine for a "seasoned" miner.  I'm not seasoned.  It took me approximately 14 hours to figure out how to even connect to my S3's.  I had to manually enter in IP Address: 192.168.1.1, Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0, Default Gateway: 192.168.1.99 in my "Network" under "System Preferences" before I could finally get to the log in screen of the S3.  LOLOLOLOL Grin

Part of that 14 hours also due to paper clips I was using for the PSU.  Apparently, the paperclips were COATED WITH A CLEAR PLASTIC OR RUBBER.  I did not know this and was almost to the point of pulling my hair out before I finally figured it out.  I told myself I'm doing everything correctly with the PSU.  Then, I noticed on the paper clip package that they were "coated."   LOLOLOLOL   Grin

I'm just not sure I want another fiasco with something new.  New to me anyway.

I would go on price. I have both bitmain and the other miners(AM/Rockminer) with the BE200 chips. Bitmain seems to always be a little more stable.

That was my MAIN concern and my concern was staying with "what I'm familiar with."

Not sure about something else I'm ignorant of.

Edit: I'm told the A10 cubie from Amazon is really the best. I have 8 pi's in my rig and they are great, but like I said I have heard the A10 cubie is the way to go. Note: they said not to use the A20, just A10.

well just bought a prisma with a rpi and wifi will be getting second mid week so 2.8 th/s 2000w for about 3 btc a little cheaper then an s4

I'm still trying to find out who makes this Prisma you're talking about and can I buy it from the manufacturer with BTC?

Also, was it two 1.4 Th/s units or one 2.8 th/s unit?

And something else:  Does it come with PSU?  That costs money too.

I normally don't vouch for anybody, but I will for CrazyGuy.

https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.8956589

Looks like payment for batch 5 deadline is midnight tonight.

Thanks for the link...

Looks like one has to buy a 1200 or 1500 PSU to run one of the 1.4 TH/s Prisma's?

Also, when it says, " - ASICMiner Block Erupter Controller (.069 BTC) - Controls up to 8 units - "  Is that what makes it "stand alone" without using a host with cgminer?

you will need psu and one pi for every 4 units.
I would recommend using a pi or A10cubie instead of the BE controller.

And something else:  Is it stand alone or do I have to connect it to a host running cgminer?  If so, I don't want it.  I have Mac OS X.  I may still be able to run cgminer in Terminal of my Mac.  I'm just not very familiar (comfortable) with entering commands in Terminal on my Mac.  I'm rather a novice at that.  I like the ease of use with the "Stand Alone" units.
