It‘s called variable difficulty, or simply vardiff.

I like it.
It is constantly re-adjusting, even for Erupters.
This must reduce the volume of network traffic considerably, and give a much more stable supply of data to the servers.

It's something most other pools have had for the better part of the year Tongue.  Yes, it does dramatically reduce traffic, since most users don't bother to change their own difficulty.  Probably less than 10% of overall users, and less than 50% of the top 100 users on any given pool (the ones who benefit the most) actually adjust their difficulty pool side, so vardiff massively reduces overall traffic to the pool.

I just hope the the new and improved Slush 2.0 solves this long-assed block soon and moves on Smiley
What Slush 2.0?  Did I miss something?

Hello MinerTE,

When I launched mining.bitcoin.cz in late 2010 I didn't really expect the pooled mining concept to become such a success. At the beginning, mining was accessible rather to geeks but gradually the expectations towards a mining pool service have changed a lot.

My goal now is to introduce completely new features and cutting-edge technologies that will make mining accessible to newcomers as well as keep mining.bitcoin.cz attractive for advanced users.

A few months ago I started to make preparations for a new edition of the pool - Slush Pool 2.0. The changes will be gradual and will lead to better user experience. The result should be simply a stronger pool with some great new benefits for you.

Consider today's news as a warm up. In a short time I will release a few more enhancements.

Thanks for being with my pool and good luck! :-)

Thanks.  Though I visit this thread as much as I can, I obviously missed this news somewhere on here.  How long ago was this?

https://mining.bitcoin.cz/news/ is the public source of this information.

I don't go there very often (in fact, I've never been there before AFAICR), but I've looked around trying to find something when the news about Slush Pool 2.0 appeared in the forum... ;-)

Thanks.  I'm just so keen on viewing the accounts and stats pages (and this forum when something goes awry with the pool Smiley) that it made me oblivious to the fact that there is indeed a "News" link on the page.

Thank you, Graet... that is kind of fascinating... how come I am not using BTC Guild again? What would be the advantage, other than the fact they seem to be finding the majority of blocks...?

thanks again!

russell

Do you think that the fact they're finding the majority of bocks is itself an advantage for every single participant?

Pool luck is now at 53%, 81%, 102%.

the other pool i mine on, ozcoin, isn't doing any better. lucky to see two blocks a day the last week. i'm really considering moving to one of the larger pools, much as i hate it... i gotta have the coin.

Something wrong with the numbers there.  Higher is better - it should now be even lower than the 7 day average value of 89.  It doesn't appear that this long block has been calculated in yet.

Just curious (I'm watching other pools a lot these days):  Is Slush's luck % a "higher is better" or "lower is better" display?  It went up to 156% after the monster block ended.  I'm quite sure 6 blocks during 24 hours is not "good luck" at 80 TH/s, but I can't come up with how 156% is getting calculated.

Well, I guess someone had to be first with a 1 billion+ share round...  Another first for SLush  Grin

Slush had a 1 billion share round a day ago too Tongue.  I'm sure Guild has probably had one or two also (hard to tell with PPLNS since it smooths it out instead of the single massive bad luck block).

It tends to end when we do the count up.  So....

...15:48:31 and counting.
