Thorough investigation should be made on this issue, if those involved are actually found guilty,  then disciplinary measures should be taken against the offenders so others would learn and desist from such act. Match fixing is one act that should not be condoned in football no matter who is involved. Match fixing exists everywhere, both in big and small leagues and in the longrun, football might start losing its credibility and fans would no longer have confidence in the outcome of matches. Ethical conducts amongst stakeholders of sports should be taken seriously.
Many players have gotten suspended, for this kind of case in the past, I think recently a coach in one of the local leagues in my country got suspended for 5 years because of his involvement in a manipulation of a local football competition, this has made me to realize that the issue of game fixing in any event like gambling and sporting events is not an easy and overlooked case anymore and if you value your career as a sports man of club owner the best thing to do is to build your team, to become undefeatable to contending teams instead of looking for a way to manipulate the process of games play to favor their team.

This footballer in the Italian Serie A could face a four-year ban from all football competitions for his alleged involvement in match fixing. It is not just him alone, the Diego Giordano, a 40-year-old pizzeria owner in Udine could also face sanctions.

How did the match fixing happen? The player who is a goalie was booked for time-wasting in the 64th minute during one of the games in March 2024.  Time wasting is a type of match fixing in addition to those from the ref and other officials.

Well well, honestly speaking, this is my first time of getting to learn that time wasting is also considered a type of match fixing, this is actually surprising to me since Ive been thinking and still can't get where or how time wasting gets to be considered as match fixing.

I remember back in the day when I was in school, when a goalkeeper or any player is in possession of the ball, but refuse to kick it off when he is she is supposed to thereby wasting time, it is usually the responsibility of the ref either issue a yellow card to such a player as a warning to not repeat such again, but if this is something the player have done over and over again, he or she may likely be getting a red card, but this has never been considered as a type of match fixing, this is my very first time getting to know that such behavior is match fixing.

What measure was taking that accurately shows that the intention for the delay held was as a result of match fixing, because I've witnessed on several occasions whereby players will be wasting time for unnecessary things while on the bid to waste the time, and once the ref discover on such act, they quickly take on action to either issue a yellow card or any other deserving type, i don't want to believe that a seriously minded payer will be playing over his career all because of his gambling bet.
I think that it was bet on the match event like "Yellow card for the time wasting for goalkeeper on 64th minute."  So it is not about fixed matches but about betting on some event for player in the squad. It is prohibited for professional players.
Waste of time as it - it is just a trick, that used in lots of games. I think that it isn`t about fixed matches.

A great example of the fact that match-fixing fraud exists at any level, not just in the lower leagues, as some gullible gamblers believe. It is naive to believe that if something is not visible, then it is not there. Big-time sports are primarily a business of siphoning money from fans, gamblers and just the audience. The main task is to maximize profits by any means. If match-fixing is guaranteed to make a profit, then it has always been, is and will be at any level from the lowest to the highest.

It would be nice to find some way to predict which match has a high risk of being a match-fixing. It doesn't even matter if this is the case, it is only important to know that in a particular case there is a high risk that the coefficients are incorrect.

The reason for the incredible development of fixed matches is the incredible profit: underground and legal betting offices annually accept bets for billions of dollars.

Football is the main and dirtiest sport, where incredible money is circulated, therefore there is the greatest concentration of fixed matches here.
Big players in the industry are those who are influencing to fixed matches and football is a great tool in their hands so yes I have to agree with you that sport most especially football is the most fixed sporting game of all time and that is because there is always a part to influence the outcome Esther through the efforts of the player or the officials for this it becomes hard for football to be without any external Influence such as fixing the game to favor the preferred team.

Many cases of match-fixing have been exposed in the past and even at present several other cases are undergoing investigation and the leagues are on which makes the act of match-fixing highly pronounced at this point and time.

4 years of jail, damn...

This is a good lesson for all the players who decide to do match fixing, the consecuences of this kind of moves it's jail, and this is a good example of what can happen to anyone who decide to do a move like this.

I don't think if 4 years is enought to show hard hand against this kind of crimes, but any player will think twice before doing It.
According to the article, it is just a 4-year ban on any football competition.
They didn't mention about the jail; he seems still lucky to get just a ban for playing football for 4 years; after that, he is free again to join.

I heard that doing a fixed match will lead to lifetime punishment because it's manipulation or considered cheating, but for him, he's still lucky that he only got banned for playing football in 4 years, meaning he can still go anywhere he wants and play other games not related to football.

I’m not surprised. I have seen many cases, and I believe there are many more we can’t find out about. Match fixing been a hidden part of football for years and it’s not limited only to smaller leagues. Even in big leagues like Serie A as this case shows it’s still happening.

In our local league, I seen suspicious things like referees giving strange penalties, players making unusual mistakes or even substitutions that don’t make sense. Sometimes, these actions turn out to be linked to match fixing, and other times they just raise questions we never get answers to.

Let’s hope cases like this make people more aware and encourage stronger measures to protect the spirit of football and its taste without cheating.

Except there's more than meets the eyes, otherwise I don't think time wasting should be seen as match fixing where the team wasting time is the one leading. Of course, we should expect any leading team to desire that the match score remains as it's to their favour. To achieve that they're likely to waste time releasing balls for play. I can only be very concerned if the losing team were the one holding tight to the ball and refusing to play. That would be a clear case of match fixing in my opinion.

As a football bettor, I don't gamble or waste my money on leagues that are not popular, it's either I go for the Champions League, Laliga, Premier League and occasional Bundesliga. The other times are for international games but I don't do much on that since international games are short, it's difficult to predict. These are the leagues I do bet my money on just to avoid all these kind of tricks to make innocent gamblers lose money for something they know nothing about.

I checked the goalie age and he just 25, he would have done better in his career and further go to any other great clubs where his value and dreams are going to be seen worldwide but chose to do something like this. If he is found guilty, then he deserves all kind of punishment that comes later because in every action, there should be equal and opposite reaction, the casino are also losing money because of these bad practices that are happening in casino.

Its all about the money. I know one player who has passion and love for the sport, but unfortunately, what he is getting is not enough to sustain his family, and one emergency needs made him betray the sport that he loves because his love for his family is greater than his love for the sport.
When money speaks, many will listen, especially those who are in dire need.
Yes you are actually right, it definitely is always about the money. But the thing is sometimes aside from being a good person and not trying to tweak rules to your favour, it's important to see the bigger picture most of the time and that's because money or no money if he's eventually charged guilty then his move was a totally not necessary one and that is simply because the comulative pay he would forfeit if he was suspended would definitely be way bigger than the amount he was payed that out him in that situation to start with.

Well, there are lots of people who will do that only if the reward is pretty high, but there's serious consequences for the footballer, like what he did he violated the rules, and match-fixing is considered cheating and manipulation even though they don't win the game.
This is a serious crime that could lead to lifetime punishments, but how about there's a syndicate involved in the match-fixing scheme? The player might be just forced to do it even though he didn't want to do it?

To me if you could even consider cheating on a sport, you have not enough passion for the sport itself and you are just playing for the money. Maybe they are just struggling so much that they had to consider cheating for the money. But it just means that there is no respect left for the sport so it is just appropriate that they get proper punishments.

It looks too silly. 65th minute is to early for time wasting. It would be possible, if he repeated it and got the second yellow card. I think that it is not about fixed matches but about betting rules for players. If i remember right, players can`t bet on event, they are involved in.
PS. We see time wasting in every second match but we don`t hear that it is fixed matches.

Quite a specific bet, if frequent bets for large sums were noticed that the goalkeeper would receive a yellow card, then of course this would attract attention. I would not be surprised that such agreements can happen, but I don't understand why a player who has his whole career ahead of him and is able to earn much more with a good contract than in fixed matches, while breaking the rules and exposing his career to such a great risk, because if he is found guilty, he will receive a disqualification for 4 years.

Why is the football dirtiest of the sports? That doesn't make any sense. There are so many more players that would need to be quiet. In one vs one sport there's way more changes for successful match fixing as there are less moving parts.

Imho match fixing with big teams just seems dirtier as they are the ones getting caught. Secrets are better kept in smaller groups, like between 2 fighters and their managers. And the one making money from it.

The peculiarity of a match-fixing is that both teams are satisfied with the result, and accordingly both teams perform certain actions that should lead to the desired result. As for the investigation into illegal betting by Udinese goalkeeper Maduka Okoye, this fact has not yet been proven by the prosecutor's office. In my opinion, time-wasting by a player can be caused by the tactical scheme of the game.

Fixed matches are a huge evil. Unfortunately, this is a fairly common phenomenon, due to the fact that under capitalism, all people strive to maximize their profits (including through illegal income).

In addition, there are many people who are psychologically very immature. They cannot realize that fair play in the long term can bring more profit than cheating for the sake of short-term income.

For a player who bets on sports, fixed matches can become a kind of trap that will lead to a loss in a situation where the player expects to win.

Therefore, you need to build your gaming strategies taking into account the fact that fixed matches are, unfortunately, our reality.
