This footballer in the Italian Serie A could face a four-year ban from all football competitions for his alleged involvement in match fixing. It is not just him alone, the Diego Giordano, a 40-year-old pizzeria owner in Udine could also face sanctions.

How did the match fixing happen? The player who is a goalie was booked for time-wasting in the 64th minute during one of the games in March 2024.  Time wasting is a type of match fixing in addition to those from the ref and other officials.

Match fixing happens everywhere but it is only easier to detect in the smaller leagues

Not that it is done by the whole club to manipulate. Also not that it is done by the two teams to achieve their predetermined result. It is done by a single person which is not match-fixing. Although, if it is true, that is manipulation from Okoye but not match fixing. Also, it is alleged and not yet confirmed to be true or not.

In general, yes, because there is no governing body to oversee that the game is free from manipulation. Its hard to fix matches in a big league like an international league because you have the whole world watching; its hard for mafias to exert their influence on players and on teams.
So these small leagues, if the commissioner has a serious campaign against match-fixing, they will be caught; they will face severe punishment.
Match-fixing should never exist in any sports; the bettors and the viewing public pay or bet money to see games fought in a real battle.

I shared in a similar topic a few days ago the news on the recent case of Kike Salas in Sevilla FC. But Kike's fault was more evident (he forced yellow cards in the last minute of the game several times to favor his friends who had bet on that). In this case, it may be more difficult to prove Diego guilty, IMO.

It's a shame, how these figures which are role models for many children and young people, behave this way. For positions of such visibility and responsibility, moral skills should be taken into account, in addition to just sports performance, but that's not how the industry works, at least for now.

I’m not familiar with football rules but is the goal keeper holding the ball still counts on the official clock like the game will not pause? Also, what type bet was involved which time wasting can give a significant impact on the outcome of the game.

Also how come that the pizzeria owner was involved on match fixing while he is not part of the game? Even if he bets on the match fixing data I think there’s no direct involvement with hime when it comes to the actual game.

I think player and officials should be the one that punish.

This is not enough proof that a lot of bets for him getting a yellow card to prosecute it, you have to verify it and this cannot be verified, it is Sisal word against his word, one very difficult case and if he gets punished this is not a fair punishment in my opinion, unless you don't link something to that yellow card you cannot punish anyone. Real match fixing case has been massive in the biggest modern football again in Serie A, called Calciopoli happened in 2006 where big teams did buy the referees and influenced the games to their liking though this was proven in the court as the accusation showed a lot of intercepted phone calls between big team management officials and referees, these cases were documented, in here it is not that well documented and it would be a shame if the player gets a ban just because a gambling company has some doubts.

It is very unfortunate when we see that there is cheating in sports activities or matches, because sportsmanship should be highly respected in the world of sports. I think if all of that has really been proven, then that is a consequence that must be accepted, because the rules remain the rules, and it is natural that quite severe sanctions will be faced by them if it is really proven. And it is very clear that this is to improve the image of football itself, and to be a lesson for everyone, especially football players not to get involved in such things.

the consequences of a match fixing is never worth whatever amount they will be paid in my opinion especially if you plan to play professionally you are basically killing your career before it even starts but i guess that is the greed that clouds a person’s judgment

there’s less weight to this so it’s not like people are carrying such heavy secrets tightly i am sure that for even a bigger amount anyone will rat them out and expose the match fixing

Some incidents, such as deliberate booking, may be isolated and not indicate a pattern of such practices across football. However, if such incidents become part of a wider trend or organised action, then we may begin to see a pattern. Modern football has become a huge industry with high financial stakes. This creates pressure on players, clubs and other stakeholders to achieve certain results or perform certain tasks, which may encourage unfair practices.

this case is going to be a big blow for Maduka Okoye who is even struggling to get enough playing time in his national team since Stanley nwabali came into the picture and now his entire career will take a totally different turn dpepending on the outcome of this investigation. with thw wage footballers in particular are getting, it will be a complete greed to engage in match fixing that is aimed at influencing the outcome of a bet. how much does he stand to get from that bet comapaired to what he stands to get for that period of four years he risk being banned both at his team and the national team he playes for at this time that the world cup is fast approaching and the afcon is right by the corner.

regardless of who is involved, cheating is cheating and he will have to face the consequence that comes with it. talking about match fixing in big teams, i still cant take my eyes off the performace of david raya in the penalty shoot out aganst manchester united. the way he dives even before the ball comes to him, shows sends a similar message that a case of match fixing can be extablished from that desplay.
