I wonder if other newbies would still dream of ranking up if there ain't bounty campaigns here. Roll Eyes
Only a handful would, and honestly, only a handful of already ranked up accounts would remain active should there be no incentive to post on the forum. This is a natural behavior, users here like Bitcoin and wish to discuss about it just as they would update their social media profiles, but the campaigns here brings a certain level of commitment to read and make useful posts, more than I see on some other discussion platforms with no avenue for earnings. This creates a sort of chicken and egg situation, as most bounties choose bitcointalk cause of the high traffic, largely generated by spam.

Assuming a newbie makes a good thread/topic/discussion but then s/he does not engage nor care about the replies of the people wanting to discuss with the thread and then just moves on to make another thread.
This does not encourage discussions but is the reality of the situation. Most of the members replying to the "discussions" also do not bother coming back to check on the thread but ony try to meet their weekly quota.

I might be overreacting a little bit, I suppose. My apologies for that.

It is just that I commonly encounter newbies that were/are seeing this website as an earning platform instead of just a simple forum where we can all have relaxing discussion with a little icing on the side which are those bounties or SCs.

Assuming a newbie makes a good thread/topic/discussion but then s/he does not engage nor care about the replies of the people wanting to discuss with the thread and then just moves on to make another thread.
It becomes like a merit fishing in order to reach the goal of ranking up, thus making them able to join signature campaigns, rather than posting something that encourages engagement/discussion for people wanting to share their thoughts with the OP.

Can't really blame them. Where the money is, that's where the opportunity arises. Bitcointalk is no exception.

We can still have relaxing conversations, but it's mainly Bitcoin-centric (let's exclude local boards) with lack of diverse subforums so naturally conversations are steered towards those associated with bounties and campaigns. Meanwhile, Off-Topic is a special creature of its own...

And about newbies creating one topic after another, you could simply add them to the ignore list or just bear with them. Either they don't get the Merit they always wanted and quit or eventually learn how to flow along and become one of those rapid earners.

There is nothing wrong with wanting to rank up and reach a higher rank on the forum. The reasons could be bounty campaigns or signature campaigns, just like you mentioned. You wear a signature yourself, and so do I. Why are you in a signature campaign? We both like seeing those incoming transactions in our wallets at the end of each week. I assume, OP would like that as well.

Other reasons include gaining respect and recognition. Seeing that the effort you put in to create and share content is appreciated by other members. That motivates you to keep going and trying even harder.

I mean, we all want to rank up and stuff. But am I the only one out here who thinks these kind of posts are quite sketchy, as if there is something else behind the reason of their writing? I mean.. besides financial gain, there is not much you can do in the top ranks without working hard but I feel like this has to come from the inside of your own heart. Never felt the need to be "inspired" by other members... if you enjoy this place just like any other forum, you'll earn your own spot in here - you don't have to feel like you're working for a top-tier spot. It comes by itself... I mean no offense but every time I read these kind of posts I get a weird vibe, lol.

We've all been there, the zeal to rid ourselves of the inferior Newbie status :p

What surprised me was that he gave 2 merits to George.

You can still be pretty knowledgeable to crypto without being a Legendary if you just read around here.

@OP Your post is really well-written I gotta be honest, but why you're wishing to be a "legend" or Legendary supposedly you mentioned that "legend with so much merits and positive trust".

"We all have the same access to information in the forum, and we have the same amount of freedom to discuss about Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies in general" Yes, I strongly believe this, maybe the major difference is some came earlier than others and maybe others are knowledgeable than some.

Yeap, hence why you should specifically focus on gaining knowledge and not necessarily achieving a higher rank. Don't get me wrong, I love Bitcointalk, but a higher rank won't get you much anywhere, but high levels of knowledge would get you almost anywhere.

My wish to become a legend, a legend with so much merits and positive trust.

You should probably aim for a higher dream, buddy. Outside signature campaigns and bragging rights, there's really nothing much "up" here. We all have the same access to information in the forum, and we have the same amount of freedom to discuss about Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies in general. Having a lot of merits(hence a higher rank) is just a sign of having a good amount of knowledge in this space.

This is great!  I really appreciate. This kind of post gives confidence and motivates.

Well, I never experienced it myself but, I heard some users assumed there ranks by default and never knew what it felt like to be a newbie. Especially those that created an account non the platform as early as 2009-2015. The new generation of Bitcointalkforum started mainly after then especially with the introduction of the merit system in 2017 to ensure quality posting on the forum.
Legends of that era are the once that can actually tell as to how much work that is required to grow in the ranks available on the forum. For a fact, newbies are quite fortunate when it comes to getting your first 1-10merits as, ranked up users often lowers there judgemental standards. If this isn't done, it would be very difficult a newbie to archive even 1merit.

We should learn by keen observations, by reading through the posts of the old members,
It not all the posts made by old members that can guide you through the forum or your crypto journey cause some posts are full of misinformation and it be good in everything pertaining to crypto you'll need to read good crypto book.

this will help pattern our attitude in the forum, it will also help us to grow with the norms and ethics of the forum.
For the forum ethics, what you need is reading the forum rules and regulations and ask question about something you don't understand.

First, welcome to the forum. Your post is very well worded. But the only thing that is always somewhat confusing is what do you mean by the concept of help?
You have only three messages, and you conclude that experienced participants do not quite treat beginners correctly.
What is behind your request for help? Make a list and try to prove that someone refuses to help beginners.

I made this post in two categories; first to encourage the newbie and second to advice the old members.

For the newbie, I believe most of us are sharing in my wish. My wish to become a legend, a legend with so much merits and positive trust.  But dreams do not come true without hardwork.
First we must appreciate and accept our newbie status by showing the inclination to learn.
We should learn by keen observations, by reading through the posts of the old members, this will help pattern our attitude in the forum, it will also help us to grow with the norms and ethics of the forum.
By so doing our passion for the forum will be high, it is the passion that creates the way to success.

For the Old members, I will liken the forum to a building from foundation to roofing.
The building at the foundation stage does not make it less building, but it is the stage at which the engineer puts much efforts and expertise. Take the newbie as the foundation, help us grow, for if the foundation is wrongly laid, it will have a significant negative effects at the completion stage.

Congratulations to me for having an account in this forum, I am looking forward to a rapid and sustainable growth with your help.

You are absolutely right. Everyone starts as a newbie of this forum or in the field of crypto and blockchain. Look at Vitalik Buterin for example. In the beginning he was a nobody until he founded Ethereum and worked hard on it. Right now he is the youngest billionaire.

No matter what aspect of life are we in, every legend, expert, coach or whatever, we all started all the way from the bottom and worked on our way to the top.

KingsDen, welcome to the forum.
I think that your main goal should not be related to the forum rank but how to help other members of this forum, or how to contribute to this forum.
You can help with your knowledge or experience, which of course will not come overnight and requires some effort and work.
That way, everything else will come naturally, including your progress on the forum.
In order to get something from the members of this forum, you must first give something, something that will help them.
In the same way, forum members will help you  Cheesy

The question is, what will you do once you have a legendary rank?. Even myself is not a legendary in terms of rank but I see myself the same as legendary member who can share and also learn when there is something new posted in the forum. I would say that trust is also important if you tend to involve in transactions.
Ranking is just an award that you achieve even I don't want to be legendary but want to be knowledgeable about bitcoin and provide the latest education to post on this forum so that it will attract a lot of interest by other members.
The ranking is how we have reached the peak of the highest score where people give us merit for the insights given and make them amazed, that's what I want the very broad knowledge I want.

Congratulations to me for having an account in this forum, I am looking forward to a rapid and sustainable growth with your help.
You must know life in the academy world (military), what lessons will be taken from a beginner in the academy, of course beginners-legends, knowledge, discipline, obeying the rules, they work hard, are passionate about doing their job, never give up and always do their best for the community and their country.

Back to topic: old member.
Let's just say that now you are in the Bitcointalk forum academy, just like we were when we were beginners, challenges, obstacles, we swallowed it, that's all for the sake of achieving graduation in the academy forum, if you want to be successful and have good grades while in education, you have to work hard and obey all the rules that have been applied, You have to do your best for everyone here, naturally you will get a graduation that is the best value and respected, the bottom line: show your true identity.

Really it's obvious that everyone have a story to narrate, so op advising the community when he has not secure one merit yet is partially good to am extent, but i will like you to know that everyone here was once a newbie, but it's only their hardworking that made them to grow to certain level today.

Nothing is really bad for someone to get elevated here but it requires attention, consciousness and good information, actually i understand that the summary of op, is merit, a Merit can earn through quality post which can be done through proper research and observing the method of senior colleagues kind of post, when been captured this, i think the chance of getting elevated is there, lastly to enable you last here try to read the rules and regulations of the community and also try to follow up loycev thread dropped @acroman08 it will really direct you properly.

Welcome to forum.

You’re probably giving to much credit to Ranks, Merits and Trust, which one probably tends to do more when he starts-off on the forum. What’s relevant is the person behind an account, what they do / can do, and their attitude. Those counters may be correlated to these factors in some cases, but understanding that people may look up to those numbers, they should not really be a goal, but rather a set of bypass products.

You are not the only one; every time I see a brand new members giving advice to other newbies and seniors and then all that talk about being grateful for being a part of this forum, self-congratulating themselves  on creating the account (like its some extremely complicated and difficult procedure lol)  and whatnot, I smell a merit fishing post.

@OP take it easy buddy, don't try too hard right from the first post.

Congratulations for you sign up.
Your passion speaks louder than your words here. Stick to it and make quality posts, you will surprisingly rank up.
All the forum users have same opportunities to explore, but the difference is being trusted.
There's no how a newbie can be experienced than the legends.

However, your advice is cool on both categories.
