I don't know if that's the one that triggers your ban because most of your post are in Russian and just for bounties so might be on those Russian post as well I guess. By replying here you violated another rule "ban evasion", you should have created a thread about your ban here in Meta.

In such a case only the hacker's account should be banned and the rightful owner could prove ownership to regain it (or use an alt, whatever).

Regardless, I think there might be a use case (emphasis on might be) where banning (or locking) a specific account (as opposed to banning a user) is justified while posting under a known alt account would not be considered ban evasion. For example, if it becomes known that an account has been taken over by a hacker, it is appropriate to ban this account only, right? I guess there might be other such cases (again, emphasis on might be)

The point of a ban is that the banned user stops posting for the duration of the ban. If they're allowed to post under an alt account, how is that different from allowing them to post under a newly created account? Either way they're ban evading.

And so what, given the alt account was active 3 months ago (i.e. likely before the ban), so it is not being used for ban evasion? Is having a second account now an aggravating circumstance, I don't get it (unless account farming is involved, of course)? Or should it get banned too? The forum rules are clear that alt accounts shouldn't be used for ban evasion, but they say nothing about banning all known alt accounts of a user along with the offending account. I think banning the offending account will suffice unless other accounts are used for ban evasion (which is not the case with respect to MrDongyy). So why the witch hunt?

Not trying to defend anyone here, but it is not about that link specifically as it is grammatically and semantically about any link in general ("A link to Twitter is not a link to the source"), so it is correct to speak of "my link" or "my quote" without making an implicit reference to the banned poster (what you seem to point out), with a bit of sarcasm in mind. Native speakers may want to weigh in here, though

The concept is clear. What is not easy is to actually enforce it, as finding out which alts people have is not trivial nor even possible for the most (the forum could play around with IPs, but that still would not work for many cases, nor is it the forum’s intent to pursue the issue with Torquemada type perseverance and techniques).
