No response received till date. Any idea how long it might take? Since the new method was in place, have anyone successfully recovered their account till date?
All we know is that account recoveries are moving , but we don't know exactly at what speed they are going. Just be patient, and if you've provided all the required information needed then it will be recovered eventually.

Thank you Santa theymos. It's a great Christmas gift to forum users. I believe that many of hacked users already lost hope to get account back, so these news is like a miracle for them.
I read your post in new pinned thread and I want to ask, is it there are something new about bans?
Quote
Your ban message may have an email address which you can email. If not, then the ban cannot be appealed.
It means that email address are shown not for all banned users and they don't have right to appeal? Or this ban appeal email aren't shown just for temporrary banned users?

I think it means if you're banned for something like 50 pages of "great project soan" there's no point giving them an email they were banned for. Or maybe it's if they were permabanned previously and clearly shouldn't be allowed to appeal it.

I'm glad these are back working, if someone uses a good password and their passwords are stored correctly on the forum and email account then a hack should be very unlikely but it's good to see theymos is doing something for those who did fall victim to having their password harvested.

Not to sound like a (possible?) broken record, but will this site ever support any kind of 2FA? Tongue

Thanks!

theymos is working on that #THEnewForumSoftware. Anyway, like Loyce I am also seeing some movements.

has anyone tried to recover an account since the new process has been released? I sent an e-mail 3 days ago, but still nothing. I thought this would be faster now. I waited more than a year so far, so i am patient, i am just asking if there is an estimate now Smiley

On new forum software, there should be some kind of 2FA as I had rrad in past. But it doesn't looks that new forum software will be repeased soon :/
Patiently waiting for the new software to be rolled out and probably be able to safeguard our accounts. It has been so much of a pain. I personally lost a full member account that did not have any staked address just because someone was able to change the password and email within one minute.

I don't want to so blatantly encourage people to "appeal by making a topic in Meta" because that's just a ridiculous process, especially since it so rarely works

Sure. But practice shows that we can't divine every single incident. Sometimes people describe the situation and it really looks like some mistake took place (or whatever) but these ridiculous threads are the only thing they can do. At least I can recommend them to try in such a case.

Am I right assuming that appeal threads in Meta are also prohibited for permabanned users now?

No. I changed it to "Your ban message may have an email address which you can email. If not, then appeals are unlikely to be accepted."

Looks good dedication of the forum admin to help users who got troubles with their accounts.

I have a question, "If someone got their account locked, and they can not access their email [something like forget their email address and/ or email password], are there chances for them to get their account back (unlock)?
I guess that the answer is "NO", but it's good if I can get confirmation of theymos.
If the answer is truly NO, it is really important to have fully backup of both bitcointalk account and email (address, password)

In the worst case, something like what happened with yahoo email, are there solutions in those cases?

The forum has come closer to its one year anniversary for the merit system, which launched on 24/01/2018, Dutch time.
Around one more month till the 24/01/2019.

I think you are right. Banned user will get direction of recovering account after sending a mail. Therefore, there is no necessity of creating a thread in meta.

It's big relief to several members whose accounts have been locked.  Forum trying it's best to provide justice to innocent members.  Members with no fault will be able to get recovered their locked accounts.

Check that the email isn't ending up in your spam folder

And that e-mail provider doesn't filter it. Some providers don't allow users to reveive the e-mails from bitcointalk.org if forum wasn't manually whitelisted.

It is a hard time job so just keep it up for the good of the forum and for the users that are also longing to get their account back. As we all know that it has been some time now that the admin announce the accont recovery tool. Just hoping that all things will gone smoothly as it is being plan.
