There's a reason almost every successful logo is a flat vector image, they're just all-round better.

It's pretty tough to argue with this. They're easier to re-size, display in any media form, and are universally easier on the eyes.

It's nice work but not viable as a logo, it relies far too much on colour and detail and wouldn't work at a small size.

Nice 3D work though, very impressive.

Eh, I dunno I think it looks fine at a small size:

It doesn't work in black and white, loses legibility in small sizes, is overly complicated and forces the rest of the branding to be massively redesigned.

All of what I'm seeing here is certainly a step in the right direction.

Well done.

The shadows are a bit much, but they can be taken out. You can also render it with flat colors, etc

It's an extrusion of this basic shape:

It's actually easier to do a full 3D render like the above then a fully flat-colored 'vectorized' version of the 3D logo.  Except for the render time, of course.

Here's my attempt at a logo:

Sticking with the "three boxes on top of eachother" theme.  It's a 3D model so you can pose it/light it however you want.   (It's still in the process of being rendered so it's pretty grainy at the moment)

I really like this.  This would be good on some videos as our opening logo.

Dear based kslaughter, good to see you swimming with the sharks (this thread).

I could see this being implemented as banner artwork, but a logo typically needs to be vectorized.

I actually miss the BitMine picture. It was pretty funky, but unique. Wink

Edit:

I'm serious. It was cool! :/

Can't you just make it your wallpaper or something? Smiley

I admit that the artist's use of the anachronistic mining cave metaphor as entrance to an entirely digital world where all matter arises from, and is protected by, the benevolent eye of Slaughter, provides a deeply evocative and hopeful glimpse into ActM's truly unlimited future as the most prosperous of the 28nm kingdoms.

^ Utter rubbish. I'm happy to see it go. Cheesy

For $5 you're going to be getting a slapped together PSD based off your initial brief with no consultations or revisions, and after all that you might not even be getting a vector image.

$5 Logos represent $5 businesses, I'd hope VMC values themselves higher than that.

This is nothing to do with VMC, just to point that out. They don't want anything, they haven't asked for anything.

Outside of ActiveMining...

The $5 argument you give there doesn't work.

If people pay $5 and get what they need, that's the market. It's up to you to make yourself stand out, but you can't judge people for paying less, particularly if they are getting what they want.

You may not agree with this form of commoditisation but that's the global world we live in. Design agencies, app developers, software developers - we all have to deal with someone across the world doing it for a pittance, and sometimes really well.

Yes hard to say what is accurate as the prices are possibly tainted on both exchanges, this seems like its a problem between Ukyo and Burnside however.

Im currently still looking for anybody who wants to swap my shares on Bitfunder for theirs on BTCT (max 4K with a nice fee)

I can't imagine why you think it involves Ukyo and Burnside at all.

The prices on both exchanges aren't "tainted," they are two different markets, with different supply and demand, because people paid very different amounts for their shares.

If you paid .0005 for shares on Bitfunder and are no longer happy with the company, selling for a very large profit now might make sense to you... although it doesn't to me, which is why I'm buying. Smiley

Edit: Everyone go on Fivver.com and find a Logo Designer (There's about a thousand of them). Ask them to design a VMC logo. Post them on here and I'll reimburse the one that would get used on the website + commission (Let's go with .5BTC currently)

This way we have a nice array of logos to choose from and they only cost $5! Can't go wrong Cheesy

Not wanting to sound rude, but I urge people not to do this. Sure it seems great for us as we get a load of logos to choose from pretty cheap, but sites like Fiverr are devaluing the graphic design industry by taking jobs away from quality designers and giving them to kids who will whip something generic up in an afternoon.

If a kid can do the same work as a "kid in an afternoon" than why would we want to pay outrageous prices. If someone is willing to do quality work for $5 + Additional for full .PSD files/etc... who are you to tell them they can't/shouldn't?

I have a full web design firm for my business, they would charge me anywhere from 1/2 an hour to a full hour for Artwork ($110/Hr). I know what I get from them is top quality and worth the price, BUT if I just need a simple logo done or icon made I get it from Fiverr because for $5 a pop I can go through 10 different designers and have options available to me for the same price I'd pay for my web firm.

There will always be quality designers needed, but some things should/can/will be done by "Kids" for cheaper. That being said a lot of people that work on Fiverr are actually not kids and use it was a stepping stone to get new customers into their full graphic business.

Firstly, logos. Please don't run off and create your own. Ken can probably have the original one people liked or he can use what he has. He definitely doesn't want to have to waste time on people creating a ton of logos when he didn't even ask for one.

Ken,

We don't mean to be so pushy on certain issues, but the way the board is coming back and saying that no matter what you won't change X Y and Z is making us really push certain issues harder than they probably should.

Some of the shareholders are really holding this until the end, we want this to succeed and we want to know that the CEO of the company has an open mind to changes that could only benefit the company.
Most of us are more than understanding for any reason you have for not wanting to do it right "NOW" but some major changes do need to happen in the future for the face of ActM to be taken professionally.

I hope you understand.

I have to remove you from my ignore list as you've made some sensible posts apparently! Hat. Eaten Smiley

As a board we can only advise. When shareholders and the board agree it's kind of natural that sometimes the ball will be picked up and pushed harder. However, when Ken doesn't change something he does give reasons. Like with the website, he has his reasons and he has said he'll gradually improve it.

He does listen, he just doesn't always agree - or agree 100%. The reason the web site gets picked on is because it's such an iconic part of a company and everyone has an 'opinion'. In fact, the core site is less of a problem than the store, which I find confusing and muddled.

All said and done, the important thing is getting those chips and boards finished ASAP, then doing mining and sales, since that's what the company was set up to do. It's probably not going to have a flashy image or a great website. Meanwhile, perhaps we just have to work on improving what VMC has got on the web.

How is this possible that this company is trading for less than IPO price when there is infinitely more information now about its chances of delivering?

Because on Bitfunder a lot of people had shares bought for 0.0005 or so. They're now taking their profit.

On BTCT they started at 0.0025 and the price is a more fair reflection of things.

Also as only a third of shares where issued on BTCT
