WTF???
July 08, 2013, 05:30:42 PM

Dude, that worked.  Where or how?  From what I read on here there should be a new topic button on any thread you are on.  And there isn't.

Thanks so much!

Did you really waste all that time spamming to 500 posts cause you thought you had to in order to be able to make a new topic?

Yeah.  But I only spammed 30 posts and it was a dead thread.  This isn't spam as other newbies may have the same question.

But now i have 2 new threads of my own.  I feel so grown up.  Lol, seriously, progress feels great.

Holy shit you have almost 600 posts in less than two months? Thank goodness for activity or you'd be a hero member.

There are only "new topic" links on subforums, not on topics.

Ok thanks.  I've been asking everyone and nobody seemed to know anything.  I don't know what a sub forum is, I post on numerous threads and none had the new topic link.  But thanks so much for solving this problem.  I don't mind now patently earning my previous badge title.

Thanks to everyone who pitched in.  Greatly appreciate it!

Something is messed up with your permissions I think. Even newbies can start new topics.

I'm looking at the top and bottom of these pages where start topic should show up and I see nothing. I've looked and looked and its just not there.  So I'm not missing anything, I simply can't start a new thread.  And yeah, a full member should at least be able to start a new topic, that actually cuts down on supposed spam and trolling so the earlier you can get off someone else's thread and start your own the better.

I've been shouting out about this for a week and nothing.  I almost got banned for trying to raise my post count in desperation to start my own thread.  You're the first who said newbies can start a new thread so maybe there's something wrong in my settings.

Can an admin or a mod please help me out?  Much appreciated!

Full members can't start new topics? This is news to me.

If true, that's a problem because the advice with self-moderated threads is "start your own."

Tell me about it.  I worked hard to earn my previous badge and now I'm stuck trolling boards and getting warnings for spam cause nobody wants to talk about a different coin as everyone is out to pump their own interests.

And I get that but this is ridiculous.  I imagine most people in my place would just give up and that's a huge loss to bitcointalk.  They should do more to keep their good, contributing members.  One day they won't have such a monopoly.  I think I've earned at least the right to start a new thread but obviously in the name of anti-spamming they have silenced a lot of other people who actually bring something positive to these threads.

And if you miss just one day in a full year then you can't be a hero member?  That can't be right.  For a lot of good people these blogs are a learning and communication tool, it's not their lives.  Many have families, jobs, personal issues and missing 1 day shouldn't eliminate an otherwise great contributor.

Content and quality should matter more than repetition and missing one day or even a few days over the span of a full year shouldn't bar a great contributor from earning that badge when before others were doing it in as little as 2 weeks.  This has gone from one bad extreme to the other poor extreme.

I added an option in your profile settings to enable post counts.

Can you do that for my account.  I have been posting for a week now and my 70 post rating hasn't budged even by 1. I'm pretty new here but I have been very active and about 2 weeks ago I had some family issues and couldn't post for about 10 days.  I got knocked down to 70 from nearly 400.  I was nearly a hero member.

This is a good idea but people who earned certain priviledges like starting a new thread should'd be stripped of everything just Cause they can't post everyday.  Losing your crown, your title of Hero should be enough.  It's hard because it stifles communication, and blogs like this are all about communicating and getting rid of spammer is all about increasing productive communication and this new rule kind of gets rid of the bathwater, baby and the tub.

It's like cutting off the arm to get rid of an annoying splinter.  It's bad for bitcointalk just as much as the spammers it tried to get rid of. You don't want to lose your good, dedicated posters who simply can't post on a daily basis.

For example, I want to discuss starting a CatholicCoin right now, but I can't because everyone gets offended if I bring it up in their thread.  So who knows how long I have to wait now.  Imagine thousands of guys in my position, this new rule inhibits progress and open communication so something needs to be added to get rid of spammers while empowering the users who earned their priviledges.

Thanks.

Anybody know at what point someone can start their own thread.  I was a near Hero member a few weeks ago before this new rule and was able to start my own threads.  Then I wasn't able to post for about 10 days and now I can't seem to budge from this 70 level.

I've been posting for a full week now and I'm still at 70.  There needs to be a moving average added to the formula to smooth things out.  Someone ranked at 400 shouldn't lose it all overnight and then lose all the privileges like starting a new thread.

And maybe reserve some rights for those who earned them at some point, don't knock them back down to zero privileges. Some people have other things going on or maybe family issues and can't post everyday.  Taking everything away isn't a good way to promote this blog.  Soon there will be many more popular coin blogs.

Once Bitcoin gets its ETF it's gonna be an Alt-Coin feeding frenzy and make no mistake, Bitcoin 2.0 is coming.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

this is stupid members that post lots of useful posts are not rewarded at all wouldn't it be better to base it on the trust feature or have a thumbs up/down button on each post and have thumbs up as +1 and thumbs down as -2 the higher your score the more you can post the lower your score the less you can post

I will have a look

This is probably the best thing that has happened to the forums. Stops mindless spamming to increase post count for a simple coin to be added next to someone's name. Hopefully it cuts down on BS posts, and boosts the validity and integrity of valuable threads.

Thank you theymos, it is good to have this option available.  People will now probably start petitioning for a 'date registered' option as well  Smiley
