Some users were temp ban with altcoin give-aways in Games & rounds. Even they were unbanned after making ban appeals but it does not cost you too much time to read my thread, to avoid same mistakes. If altcoin give-aways are outside games & rounds, your ban appeal will not be accepted.

The give-away I mentioned:
Coin of the week giveaways
6.1. - 12.1.2020: Litecoin - 1 LTC
13.1. - 19.1.2020: TRON - 2,000 TRX
20.1. - 26.1.2020: Ethereum - 0.25 ETH
27.1. - 31.1.2020: Bitcoin - 0.0050 BTC
One of ban appeal: Got banned due to Bitcasino.io giveaway

Read and take care.

It still surprises me why people would apply to participate in a giveway where the guarantee of them getting the value of their work done isn't assured and if they were to recieve the tokens, the value (as promised won't be guaranteed).
It is easy to understand, most of people join the forum for bounties, airdrops, give aways. They create accounts, and join the easiest types of works to get extra money. By leaving a post, address, comment, they get coins they want. Maybe it is small amount of money paid via tokens, altcoins, but they don't lose anything (that what they believe, but not what they will get at the end). Those ones don't spend a second to read pinned threads, and forum rules.

It is a shame that I knew that rule, but I did not thoroughly understand it till yesterday.  Wink

eXch.cx - Automatic crypto Swap Exchange.
With this rule, the forum is actually doing her users more good than harm. The creators of these altcoins giveway threads, take advantage of the worthlessness of their tokens to get free works done just like airdrops and most bounty campaigns. It still surprises me why people would apply to participate in a giveway where the guarantee of them getting the value of their work done isn't assured and if they were to recieve the tokens, the value (as promised won't be guaranteed).

For those who aren't aware of the rules, that's just them been ignorant as the rules is clearly outlined on the Unofficial list of (official) Bitcointalk.org rules, guidelines, FAQ and also pinned on the altcoin discussion board. It's quite time people that taking responsibility for their mistakes as the forum can't be blame for not sending an earlier warning.

There is a rule on non-altcoin-give-aways in the forum, that went lively since 2014, years ago.
Disobey that rule will lead to bans (as I saw temporary bans with different ban periods for each cases).

To be honest, I did not know that rule before seeing some ban appeals from users banned with altcoin-give-away rule.
I actually saw that rule many time, but did not pay too much attention on it, and did not really comprehensive understand about it till yesterday.

Rule:
15. No on-forum altcoin giveaways. [6][e]
Most giveaway threads are no longer allowed in the Alternate cryptocurrencies sections. From now on, posting or replying to such threads could result in being banned. Existing threads will be locked.

Specifically, you are not allowed to give people any incentive to post insubstantial posts in your threads. You can't offer to pay people who post their addresses, usernames, etc. You can do giveaways off-site and link to the giveaway page in a thread, but you can't give people any bonus for replying to your thread.

Similar threads are already restricted to Games and Rounds in the non-altcoin sections, but the giveaway-related post volume is so high in the altcoin sections that I've decided to just ban them entirely here.

Recent case studies:

[1] Banned 30 days due to creating that thread: DogeDraw - Dogecoin Lottery - Win upto 25x - (Faucet, Free DOGE & more) (I'm not sure why that thread has not yet been deleted). Ban appeal rejected.
[2] Banned 10 days due to posting in deleted thread, Seer give away. Fortunately, ban lifted.

Answer from (global) moderators:
I was the one who issued the ban - 30 days to the OP and 14 days to each participant. I have a zero tolerance policy for people running or participating in altcoin giveaways. Unless it's an edge case where the definition might or might not cover it, a new rule or a new broader interpretation of an existing rule, I issue 30 day bans (on the first offense, that is) to anyone who either creates or sponsors the creation of on-forum altcoin giveaways. Unless theymos explicitly modifies the "no altcoin giveaways" rule to exempt certain altcoins, I will continue to ban people at the same severity level as for any other coin or token.

Ban duration reduction appeal denied. You're free to appeal it to the head admin, theymos, but that's my final decision.
I was the mod who issued the SEER ban. While I was on the fence (due to you mentioning you weren't interested in fulfilling all of the bounty requirements), the fact that the OP included you in the winner's list is what pushed me to include you among the other banned participants. Looking through your post history as well as considering the aforementioned circumstances, it does seem like a ban is a bad fit for this situation. Unbanned. In the future, do try to avoid posting semi-entries in giveaway threads that give out altcoins, even if they've been posted in the wrong section.

We usually don't pay too much attention and spend enough time to read and think of rules to fully understand them.
I don't know, but it seems (from what I saw) violations on that rule only results in temporary bans, if users commit it the first time.
Depends on each case, temporary ban period will be issued by each moderator.
23. When deciding if a user has broken the rules, the staff have the right to follow their interpretation of the rules.[e]

There are no set rules on how long you can be banned for. A mod can give you a 1 day ban or 100000 day ban if they see fit.
7, 14 and 30 day bans are the most common ones used by global mods and admins. While I usually default to these, whenever there's a situation where an offense just doesn't match the most common severity levels (is lower than the lowest, higher than the highest or in between), I tend to use 3, 5, 10 or 60 days for such offenses.
The issue with that is that's how I do it. Other global mods or admins might have their own go-to ban durations. As hilariousandco said, there are no set durations, only common practices (then again the same applies to the forum's rules, hence the "unofficial" tag at the start of my rule thread's title).
Read: Did rules on temporary offence changed?

From now on, if you see my thread, and spend your time to read it carefully, you should avoid posting anything in altcoin give-aways threads.

Good luck.

In some boards, you can see pinned threads, which directly mention about that rule or give links to forum rules.
