Rx 470 flashed to RX 570 on Guru3D forums.

http://www.guru3d.com/news-story/wanna-flash-your-rx-470-towards-a-570-it%E2%80%99s-possible.html

I'm itching to build another rig just so I have an excuse to buy a couple 500 series to test. Too bad I'm running out of corners in the house to put more rigs. :/

Now the money is free, and so the people will be
My 580 uses roughly 5W less power at the same settings than my XFX 480.

makes sense, thanks for reporting !

I get my MSI RX 580 cards tomorrow, will post stock power consumption! Hopefully someone smarter than me can figure out a modded bios I can use! Tongue

apparently, mods are the same- 1500 timings for 570 and 1750 timings for 580.
I am getting MSI 570, not sure when they will arrive, though.

I hate modding bios looks like I'll just stick to used 470s.

me too (re hating modding bios)  Grin
hit or miss, basically
sometimes you can get modded 470s, though (used)

It's better if we can find reviews that compare the same brand/type of cards, and not aftermarket to reference designs Smiley
Toms hardware has some interesting reviews where they analyze power usage in detail. They are showing a 13-50W different between XFX RX470/570 versions.
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/amd-radeon-rx-570-4gb,5028-15.html

Then their RX580 review shows much closer power draws between the RX580/480 versions.
It's the first review I've seen with power consumption this close. Most of them are finding bigger differences.

I can't wait for some miners to get their hands on them and do some more power analysis Smiley

rx 580 = 250 watts, rx 480 = 166 watts. ON maximum performance rx 580 uses 84 more watts.

I just saw the sapphire rx 570 pulse 4gb review, and looks like even the 570 is bad. That is 62 more watts, what the hell is that.

This concludes of what could be the worse refresh of all time done by AMD.

TPU is misleading as always , they are comparing Nitro 580 to Reference 480 .
IF you checked  the MSI gaming X 480 review you will find that it is consuming at least 40W more than 480 reference , most of the non reference design consuming 40-60 more watts than reference due to higher Vcore and core clock and less efficient mosfet design  .

It was noted on reviews about how big the heatsinks are on 5xx series, so in simple terms, 5xx series uses 33% more power and is also 33% bigger to contain that heat. The performance is as much as 6% more, so basically you are wasting around 25% more power for the same performance with the 5xx series.

Any proof of using 33% more power?

Because judging by the review its more like 10-30w, which is normal because it has a higher clock.

techpowerup has a great review about it, it seems the rx 580 uses as per the review 67 more watts than rx 480 at maximum peak.

8 pin power adapter instead of the 6 pin. Doesn't need powered risers, and you can overvolt and overclock

I hope the old series go cheaper, as the new ones are expensive...

Anyone know which Sapphire Series has dual bios?
Are Pulse series an option?

EDIT: Damn, the RX 570 Pulse series are only 4GB

I guess the Nitro+ RX 570 8GB will be the one to buy for faster roi, it requires only one 8 pin supply.

Here is Cryptomined unboxing sapphire 5XX Chinese versions. Only the 580 card has a dual bios switch. The Sapphire 570 appears to have a cheaper build quality.

Should be able to down clock/volt to 480 levels and get lower power consumption and the same hashrate + less noise then?

Or is my logic flawed?

I hope this is the case.
And stock, its not using 33% more power in anyway.
