hmja, even official driver, i don't know. This undervolting and power consumption is giving me grey hairs.

what is this "brake pedal" you speak of?

I too could not get official driver to work with Win7

same here.. uninstall afterburner and delete settings, ddu, install driver, patch, win7 comes up recognizing all cards, but claymore 9.8 exits at the pool prompt.

I ran DDU in normal rather than safe mode and everything went fine. My XFX 580's went from 26.5 back up to 29.7 like they had been running when I first got them.

I don't think the question is whether or not the drivers are able to increase the hashrate, as everyone pretty much agrees on this point. The question is does it increase the hashrate while maintaining the power saving measures many of us were previously running. These measures could include BIOS mods, overclocking, and undervolting.

So for everyone, the more helpful updates would include not only the fact that your hashrate returned to previous levels, but what was your pre-beta and post-beta power consumption readings and did you need to make any adjustments to return to normal levels.

For example, I have a RX580 8 GB that when I first got it I could get 30 MHs out of it at 122 watts. With the DAG issue it slowly crept down to ~27 MHs while still drawing 122 watts.

I then apply the Beta driver but need to revert some of the previous adjustments to make it work properly. I now am back to ~30 MHs in performance, but when I look at the power draw it is now using 150 watts.

So doing some simple math with the beta driver the card now consumes 5 watts of power for every 1 MHs of performance.

The pre-beta driver state it used only 4.5 watts for every 1 MHs of performance.

And the original state (where we all want to get back to) it required only 4.06 watts for every 1 MHs in performance.

So as you can see from the example, the beta driver (with adjustments to make it run stable) seems to draw roughly 0.5 to 1 whole extra watt for every 1 MHash it generates, which overtime can add up. At 30 MHs this is 30 watts extra per card, and in a 6 GPU rig it is 180 more watts. Since the new driver does not seem to work well with earlier BIOS mods or most overclocking and under-clocking settings most of us had in place prior, this is not really an improvement.

This driver breaks every mining app I have.  Huh

Have you used DDU? Try reinstall again, you may use DDU even twice.

I am updating my rigs to the Blockchain Beta driver on windows 10.

6x MSI 470 8gb : DDU, driver install, patch, AB Beta 16, undervolting - OK!
6x MSI 570 4gb: DDU, driver install, patch, AB Beta 16, undervolting - OK!

6x MSI 580 8GB: problems:

DDU, driver install, patch, crashes, and had to add the cards one by one and let them get detected. but it only works for 5 cards!

I can't add the 6th card - "Thread stuck in device driver" when I reboot with the 6th card connected. The card works if I switch it with card n°5.

I can mine with pre-DAG slowdown hashrate with these 5 cards.

Does anyone else have this issue?
Does anyone have an idea?

Thanks for you kind help

- unofficial modded driver work good on win7 and win 10 (but can not be sure if it is clean)

I would stay away from robinhood's driver, I mean is legit and all and I even did a throughout 100% check up, however nothing is sure. I would use the official driver from AMD. I'm grateful for robinhood's effort to share the driver.

so...
- ati official driver do not work with windows 7, but work good on windows 10 (i have win7)
- unofficial modded driver work good on win7 and win 10 (but can not be sure if it is clean)
- both drivers break overclock compability, wattool and afterburner not work (even with new beta afterburner it not change everything)
- overdriveNtool work for new driver, have voltage but have no offset
- peoples saw increase of power, but it is just result of broken oc tools, they do not change voltage
conclusion - i will stay on old driver and wait for problems to go away ..

@kmarx

Wattmann sucks. Tried it a lot, but if any card hangs up all settings are reseted...

I confirm that power increase a lot after update.

I'm currently using Crimson ReLive Edition 17.7.1, my watt has been about ~870w, after update power shot up to anywhere from 1000w to 1300w.

Then I tried to downgrade to 17.7.2, watt did not decrease, that got me worry that something is wrong, since 17.7.2 is most recent stable version.

But after downgrade again to 17.7.1, my watt is stable again about ~870w.

So 17.7.2 and the blockchain beta version both eat away lot of power.

Drivers worked for me with some effort. Windows 10, 3 580 Gigabyte Aorus 8GB. Stock voltage was 1125mv.

Out of the box, no luck with voltage control through Wattman. The Afterburner beta was able to bring the voltage down 96mv from stock, but it would quickly glitch and massively drop hashrate or hang.

Went in, flashed the bios with new voltages--875mv for each state, and I changed the top state from 1365mhz to 1125mhz. Raised memory speed to 2150mhz, stock memory timings.

Rebooted. Brought me down to 950mv.

I then went through Wattman again to change the memory controller voltage from 950mv to 875mv. Success! All three cards are again running at 1125/2150 and using 863mv. Temps and power consumption are now identical to what they were prior to the beta driver.

When I purchased the cards in May, each got around 26.7mh/s (~81mh/s total) under the above settings. That had dropped to ~24.5mh/s (~73mh/s total) prior to installing the beta drivers. Now, with the beta drivers, I'm back at 26.7mh/s (81mh/s total) over the last 24 hours.

I too could not get official driver to work with Win7, but the unofficial robinh00d driver works.

Afterburner beta #16 gave me clockspeed and voltage control for RX 470 and 480 using the robinh00d drivers
(have not tried with 570 yet)

Voltage changes are not applied immediately, takes effect when mining is paused/restarted.
Also it seems that changes to clocks end up resetting the effective voltage back to default, so make the voltage changes the final thing you apply.

changing voltage doesnt seems to work in AB and even in wattman. Im always getting 120-130 watts in GPUz but the hashrate do increased from 29.3 to 30.

OK OK

I managed to make it work...

Curiously, I have an ultra increase on my last GPU :

ETH: GPU0 28.648 Mh/s, GPU1 29.790 Mh/s, GPU2 29.061 Mh/s, GPU3 29.903 Mh/s, GPU4 29.681 Mh/s, GPU5 31.774 Mh/s

31,7 WOW ...

All OC settings are sync inside AB, this GPU remains over 31.5 solid, but the other ones vary between 27 and 29....

How could I reach the same hashrate on all GPUs  Huh

Gigabyte RX 580 gaming 8G Hynix.   Bios modded, now running 31.3Mh/s from 29.6Mh/s but having major issues controlling anything.   Trying to adjust clocks or voltage with Claymore seems to make everything go to hell and afterburner 4.4 beta, only the fan control works.
Update afterburner to 4.4.0 beta 15 -> works for me

Some cards work fine some it has little or no control.   I've tried beta 15 and 16.
