The delay on the new client is due to us having to strip out a number of custom features that were not ready for production. As the features are quite innovative, we did not want to simply comment them out in the source and give away too much information and/or allow the features to be "borrowed" before we even launch them. We ended up creating a completely separate branch and things are rolling along.
The fork will replace the bonus blocks with steady 188 coin blocks throughout the remainder of the bonus phase. Also, a new difficulty formula will kick in that adjusts every block to help smooth out the network.
The fork begins at block 75,888 - that means we need to get everybody updated before the weekend is over. It isn't as much notice as we'd like but we felt it was important enough that it needed to be fast-tracked. The new source will be put up on GitHub tomorrow and we will begin reaching out to all of the pool operators and exchanges that will need to update their clients before block 75,888.
For those of you on Windows that want to get a jump on things, here is the download for the new 32-bit Windows-QT client:
OctoCoin 1.8 w/ 75888 fork [Windows-QT]This is complete with the fork that kicks in at block 75,888 and will run fine until then as well. It is built on top of the upcoming Bitcoin 0.9.2 source. Once the new OctoCoin source is public, we will follow with the 64-bit Windows-QT and Mac wallets. We will release the windows installers later - for now, we're keeping it simple.
By EOD, all nodes will be updated and ready for the fork. Will update the main post and provide updates throughout the day.
Ok, since the wallet will be available tomorrow, I'm going to hold off on opening the casino until then, since I don't want to have to just shut it right back down to change out wallets.
Once the pool switches over, if we continue to have problems because of the negative Liquid asset error, it's possible we'll do a "fresh start", which should be painless for you guys, but quite a bit of work on my end. If that does take place, either I'll push everyone's remaining balances out manually, or give you instructions to withdraw from the "old" wallet. I don't want anyone to worry, nobody's going to lose anything. I just want to make sure our pool runs smoothly and there's no more payout errors.
I'm definitely excited though!
