I do not think the project is dead. Only the developer can tell us that for sure. Last I heard they were still working on it. I spoke privately with them and asked that they seek out the help of other Cryptonote developer communities as it seems like this is their first blockchain project and they need a lot more experience on their team.
The developer doesn't seem to understand that people here want updates at LEAST daily even if there has been no progress, just letting everyone know that would be preferable to silence.
The most likely scenario without that will be the 1 week block height rolback they described. As bad as that sounds at least it would be a working blockchain, but for how long? Without further expertise, I don't think they could answer that as I asked that and received no answer.
It is nice to know that you have communication with the developers of BAS. I will still be supporting this coin. I think we cannot mine this at the moment right?

you cant make new user stop his sync if you not remove the wallet from website, and im sure controll all people to shutdown or turn off his wallet is very hard, this is decentralization system, no one cant stop it, better you find other way maybe with make new version of wallet and including new setup (block), and announce to all user to upgrader his version
I think wallet and node is not the same thing. Rather any wallet can be node but not each node is standard configured wallet. at least in BTC it are so. If run wallet at other port with different config it will full node . Correct me if I am wrong

lol imagine someone trying to get all the people running BTC to go offline at the same time..
