I am currently staking about 800k coins with each input split down to about 4k. The difficulty and % of coins actively supporting the network are high enough that those with a larger balance can use a higher threshold without any negative affects on the network.

This is a non issue. Leave the default set to 4 or 10k but give us the ability to set our own.
Dope is set to 60 seconds blocks? Right? Assuming 60s per block with the 24hour maturity window, with 1440 blocks/day you need that many inputs to keep the network running on time. Assuming only 25% of the supply actively staking with 4k blocks you have upwards of 30k inputs actively trying to stake, you could easily increase the split threshold 10x and still have 200% of the inputs needed to keep the network moving. You have even more room to maneuver if you go with 50 or 75% of the supply actively staking.
