@MalReynolds  are you going to help?  Give some ETC?  Make a dapp?  Teach Smart Contracts?

I've owned ETC for a grand total of 48 hours.  Now I own a lot of it, and I'm planning on holding it as long as there is potential for growth - and I believe there is.  I'm still getting oriented.  Let me read the back posts here and absorb my new surroundings.  But yeah, I want to help.

Good man!  You are welcome!  Read well.

I am a miner.  I run a node too.  I don't want to lose PoW.  No miner does.
But it is for the miners too choose if you have a network or not.
And its up to the users to decide if they will support miners or a centeralized organisation that issues them coins.
In my eyes ETH was crypto-fiat. Crypto currency was going to give an alternative to fiat.  And if i have anything to do with it, it will still.

Yes we do need a good team from top to bottom.  However; until then "we need to do for ourselves

We are going to emancipate ourselves from mental slavery because whilst others might free the body, none but ourselves can free the mind. Mind is your only ruler, sovereign. The man who is not able to develop and use his mind is bound to be the slave of the other man who uses his mind….” Marcus Garvey, Nova Scotia, October 1937.

"If will build it, they will come" Field of Dreams.  American fantasy-drama by Phil Alden Robinson 1989

SO.....

What about a Competition to build dapps?  ETH Prize.
Anyone want to pledge prize money I.E. sponsor a Competition?
Anyone want judge a Competition?
Anyone want to run a Competition?
Anyone want to WIN a Competition?

@MalReynolds  are you going to help?  Give some ETC?  Make a dapp?  Teach Smart Contracts?

I would like to see ETC stay a PoW coin or perhaps a PoW/PoS coin as Charles suggests in his blog post link I listed above.  The most dramatic break ETC could make is to reject the upcoming Casper fork and avoid following ETH into pure PoS, a place where miners have no place.

An early decision to reject an upcoming PoS-only future and agree that miners will always have a place in ETC could have significant impact in luring miners away from ETH towards supporting ETC.

Oh they would come mine etc, nothing better to do. Miner dumping may suppress the price maybe not. Definitely a good way to differentiate between the 2, especially because I think their pos is going to probly have issues like everything else. Unless of course we figure out a way to have it still pow but gain pos rewards to give incentive to hodl?

I wonder if you could have an interest earning dapp on the chain? Hmmmm

Ok, time for me to post the "stupid question of the day".  I just downloaded the Mist Wallet software and installed it on a machine.  After the Bitfinex fiasco yesterday I want to make sure I have only what is needed on the exchanges.  How do I validate or check that my wallet is on the correct chain before I transfer my ETC out?

http://fork.ethstats.net/  Check you have the correct block number #2002840    at time of posting

Yes, that appears to be the block I show also.

I couldn't agree MORE!  Either stay POW or maybe a hybrid of POW/POS.  POW should be a core focus IMHO.

When I go to the Develop Menu > The DAO Fork > Don't support the DOA fork is checked.  So did I make the correct selection when I installed it?

You are right though now we're pretty legit, time to start talking about what our plan is going forward. I think we need to get some good devs on board and develop some dapps. Good dapps that help give etc a purpose. But that's just one idea

@tylerderden  Yes we do have 12 year old people that post on this forum.  I am not sure if that is permitted but you know, that people will find a way.  They have gaming machines but the law in the West forbids them to do paid work.  However, if they have I.T. skills they can make coin, they make money.

Look at some of the newbie posts that sound like they ask a question only a child would ask?  These are the next generation of coders and miners.

Also think this, we have had children arrested in the UK because they "Hacked" in to governments systems
REF:-  http://thehackernews.com/2016/02/fbi-hacker-arrest.html

I want ethereum classic to be used by everyone.  I don't want it to exclude and divide.  I don't want to lose the next generation of computer genius and drive them to stuff that will get them locked up.  I want Housewifes, teenagers, people who feel that no one listens.  Bring your skills into the light.

So you are welcome here but please please please, can we try keep the language a little, just a little less vulgar.  You will be listened to.

This is different kind of coin.

Warm wishes

Paula

Yeah I get It , i apologize to the children on bitcointalk Lol!! I've been here a long time and yes I do get carried away, gotta admit though some of it is pretty friggin funny. And nobody deserves their own personal troll like pumpy.

And Paula, not trying to be a dick here but I'm welcome wherever the hell I want thanks. Not a fan of crypto foundation policing the naughty words, eth crowd is < that way

I have had my son into mining since he was 11, but I keep him off here. I don't think this is a place for children for alot of reasons

So lets get organised people and defend this coin.

Excellent post.  Organizing is critical to keep ETC healthy, and initial supporters reaching out to the public user base is the key to organizing.

ETC must rally around somebody with a vision, fast.

Please allow me to introduce who I believe is the most viable person to fill the role of ETC initial organizer, the original CEO of Ethereum, Charles Hoskinson!  Charles says he will not seek a leadership position in ETC (see blog post below) .... but perhaps he can suggest and guide us towards finding appropriate people who will.

"Hoskinson founded Invictus Innovations and created BitShares which is the first cryptocurrency utilising Delegated Proof of Stake, a consensus algorithm also used by Lisk. He is a founder of Ethereum and served as its initial CEO from December, 2013, until June, 2014. Hoskinson’s major contributions to smart contract platform include designing the legal structure, crowdsale model, and building a global network of evangelists and developers which continues to this day. He worked on the original cryptographic design and is greatly responsible for what it is today. Hoskinson is currently the CEO of the Hong Kong based Input Output HK, which hosts one of the largest cryptocurrency research divisions in the world."

Charles - here's the microphone.  Please take it and say something constructive that will provide a nucleus to crystalize around.  Good luck to us all as we start this ETC journey!

Although It is important that we have pool stability in our mining,  I must warn about everyone all using the most populated pools.
If we all mine in one place then we leave ourselves open to easy attack.

These are the pools listed on the front page of this thread.

https://etc.bw.com
https://f2pool.com
http://ethc.epool.io
http://pool.ethereumclassic.com
https://ethc.coin-miners.info
http://etc.nanopool.org

http://etc.poolto.be
http://yolo.ethclassic.faith
https://ethereum-classic.miningpoolhub.com
http://etc.coinpool.biz
https://www.coinotron.com
http://etc.digger.ws

Total Network Hashrate = ~1000 GH/s

@bitpop, do we know how the hashrate is distributed across these pools?

@poolowners, post your hashrate so we can make a quick list?

@miners, post your pools hashrate and give comments / marks out of ten on stability?

@helpers of ETC, is there anyone that can make ETC a hashrate pie chart of hashrate/pool distribution like this one for bitcoin...... https://www.blocktrail.com/BTC/pools

Remember, “Power is held by those those who own and control the means of production” Karl Marx
If you mine Ethereum Classic you own a proportion of the means of production of Ethereum Classic,

etc.coinpool.biz

650 - 1.2 GH/s

GetworkPort: 7788
Stratum upto 300 MH/s : 7887
Stratum above 300MH/s : 8778

Full Nicehash support !
ethminer -SP1, eth-proxy and ether-proxy support !

Thank You  LeChuckDE
