This Istanbul testnet fork caused Ethereum network split,
and this is one more proof why good testing is needed before mainnet.
On a good note I noticed a lot lower fees on eth network recently

Does this mean that now we will get another coin? Like the one which gave us ETC? Or this is just a routine fork that won't play any major role.

you need to know all these dramas is still in the testnet phase

No. There will be no new coin. Creators don 't understand what they 're doing. Confused, poor guys.

So what's next after unexpected chain split in testnet?
Will the Instanbul fork will be postponed for mainnet?
Will be. The gap in the test chain happened because the fork happened ahead of time and the miners were not ready to support it.
In the main chain, miners will support and everything will be fine.
We are waiting for DEVCON to announce more accurate information on it.

The key word here is "TESTNET".
I didn't read the details but it seems something didn't go right with their testings. This would be a problem if the update was pushed in the mainnet without testing first, but now they have time to fix whatever issue there was.

Guys, today I had to update a full wallet on my computer. The last time I did it was over a year ago. It has been so long since the launch of network, and ETH has become top 2 crypto-currencies, but why does the wallet still have such a look and works crookedly?

It's because the chinese scam that was eating ~50% of the gas finally ended. Devs drained the contract, so no one is playing the game. No more crazy load from 1 dapp.

Istanbul testnet is not the main reason but this is the main reason why there must be a separate chain between ropsten testnet and istanbul testnet

Quote
Normally, miners on a proof-of-work blockchain like ethereum and test network Ropsten are required to manually upgrade their software in order to ensure the smooth continuation of a single chain.

According to Hudson, the majority of miners on the Ropsten blockchain did not upgrade to the latest software, since the time of the hard fork caught many developers off guard. This has resulted in a split of the test network between those mining on the upgraded chain and those mining on the outdated chain.

I just hope these miners will be upgrading their software as soon as possible.

But remember if that was a testnet. When the majority of those miners will have upgraded their software and there will be no separate chain and a single chain will be enough.

Well there are numerous coins out there that outcompetes ETH and XRP, Unfortunately both have first mover advantage hence it's highly unlikely any of those coins to get in 2/3 rank. Maybe Libra(Or any other coin by tech giants) will take the 2nd place someday?

Libra? If you're talking about decentralization, Libra won't cut it. I don't expect Facebook to share maximum benefits of maintaining a Libra node, unlike true decentralized networks like Bitcoin. They will always make sure they have the majority of whatever they plan to use as a validating node.

libra is sure much better than those tether, i would take libra over all those out of thin air stable coins any day.

The topic of Ethereum has become more crowded in recent hours. What's wrong with Ethereum, please tell me. If you think there is something wrong with Ethereum, please tell me which altcoins will replace Ethereum at the second position in the crypto area. Ripple, nope. Bitcoin Cash, nope. TRON, nope. So, which one in your opinion?
I don't see anything strange happening... or rather... I see nothing is happening with Ethereum's developement! But maybe I just haven't done my research so nvm.
But let me remind you that XRP and ETH have been trading the 2nd position a few times now.
Agreed. For many years XRP and ETH have been placed in top 2 and top 3 positions by market capital (CMC) and they have been swapping places several times too.

Any other coin to come along and dislodge them will take a monumental effort and there is guarantee they will be able to do it.
we cannot give certainty that Ethereum and Ripple will continue to rank 2 & 3 forever, but it is true for the moment there are no competent coins that can shift them.

I knew of ETHEREUM when it was pennies on the dollar and was so stupid that I didn't buy at the time a few thousand to keep for a better day. So many people have become very wealthy just because they bought ETH when it was dirt cheap. I don't know now if there is any chance to make that kind of wealth again in the Cryptosphere. I personally think those days are over now and those huge gains were made by the early adopters who just bought a few bags and then saw their investment skyrocket. I believe though the technology is here to stay and maybe in the future, we might have some good projects off of the Ethereum network that might make a few people happy financially, but it's those who invested in ETH early, who are the real winners here. At least we can congratulate their foresight at least if anything.

Yes unfortunately we miss investing in some excellent get-rich opportunities such as Ethereum and sometimes invest in fraudulent projects instead.

It is all part of the learning process.

i remember a friend of mine telling me back then to buy eth and price was between $10-$15 there about and i said to him - that coin already too expensive to invest on he should forget about it and buy something cheaper..... Damn! if only i could see future or have a time travel machine, but now it feels there are no such great project that are cheap to invest on, 2017 was really a great year for those who took full advantage of it, hope we can see better years ahead.
I ctually bought eth at 13$ but since i am afraid i only bough 1 pcs of eth . and im not able to get rich with only 1 pcs . i wish i investt all my money that time and sell it in 2017 .

Hindsight is a bitch alright. I had 300 ETH bought in the ICO, I sold all around $3 each and I thought I was a genius with all that  600% profit. And then years later on even with this Ethereum downtrend, I wish I waited for much longer.

At that time you were a genius for taking such huge profit, am sure some people did not patient enough to sell at $3 from ico, even if you didn't sell at $3 you would have probably sell at $10 - $12 you can resist it,
But if any reason there are still people hodling eth since from ico (which I highly doubt) they are the real genius here, going through all that temptation and not sell.

Agreed with you it seems really someone is still holding this coin since the ICOs. Everyone is here to make profit  in short time of period and that is the reality of this world. If someone took huge profit than no need to regret for it.

Ethereum hard fork harms Aragon and Kyber Network projects. Ethereum (EIP) 1884 SLOAD operation costs will grow the most - from 200 to 800 gas.

I do see Ethereum brought lots of positive things to the crypto market, and at some period the coin and its ecosystem played important role to boost crypto market upwards exponentially.
You are right, ethereum brings many people to crypto industry as the most used platform for startups. But so many people are disappointed with the development of ethereum or the price. The price for me shows that ethereum is not independent enough as a big platform. As you can see, ethereum price always become a tail to Bitcoin. When Bitcoin jump, ethereum follow it and when Bitcoin dip down, ethereum goes deeper. That's the problem!
