Is it easier to just mine ETH with a standalone miner to a pool and then cash out to an exchange instead of setting up the Core wallet ?

It depends on the pool. Some pool allow you to mine directly to an exchange wallet. Some do not.

I tried it that, but btc-e says it does not accept transfers from the pool directly
dunno about poloniex

if I could do that, i wouldn't mind dealing with this crap, i do it because i have no choice, i need to transfer from the pool to my wallet and then send it to the exchange, if there is another way pretty please!!! tell me  Grin

I am using a pool with auto exchange but i don't think it's being fair, i am pushing 220 MH, with that amount of power i should be doing like 2 ETH per day and i am being credited with 1.7 ETH, but this is the only pool i found with auto exchange to BTC or LTC.

there are other probably far better pools out-there but none of them auto-exchange, so i need to figure how to transfer funds to the exchange, that's why i deal with this.

[EDIT] solo mining is out of the question, with my pityful 220MH a single orphan would kill me, with current difficulty i will need over 400MH to even think about doing solo.

Besides to not downloading new blocks, it puzzles me why the hell is trashing my hard drive constantly, is so bad the trashing of the drive that i almost cannot do anything else with this machine while geth is working, and... working on WHAT if it is not downloading s#it Huh can anyone explain this?

not to mention the wallet itself (0.7.4 x64 windows) that takes about 40 seconds to load and trashes so bad the hard drive, that if i load the wallet while i am downloading the updates with geth (when it is working) it stops working, due to hdd lag.

btw hard drive is a defragmented WD Black 1TB, 4 Gb of ram on this machine, i had to practically dedicate this machine exclusively to this thing.

Much - most pools have a minimum payout of 1 ETH, which is the same as the min deposit at Poloniex.
Not only is it easier to set up, but the difficulty is so high now that all but the biggest farms need to pool mine.

for everyone that needs a blockchain bootstrap:

http://cryptochainer.com/dir/

That bootstap file is clever. It anyway will take time, but once there is no need to have internet connection during synchronization it is better. I have used it with some other cryptos.

So, once I have downloaded the Ethereum bootstrap file, what I has to do?

One more question.

What is the difference between current blockchain and bootstrap?

......(( as long as u trust the site ))no difference but the boostrap ,the most of the times, is smaller so after u download the bootstrap, syncronize yr internet clock then open the wallet and let syncronize....

Is their a most recent updated node list for downloading blockchain having problems keeps stopping and am having to force restart client.

Blockchains Available N-Z

I already have passed the downloaded blockchain that is on their am currently at 1529105 and counting but pain in the backside it having to close and re open ever needed to do so on older version. Guessing new eth wallet got some bugs.

when i get up at night to go to the head, i touch the machine and automatically restart geth, i even do it in my sleep, like a sleep walker haha  Grin

[EDIT] For the last 4 hours i was trying to keep updating the wallet but now there is a new issue, it does not download anything after about 20 minutes say sync failed and does nothing, never downloads anything.
I removed the static-nodes.json just in case but same problem, i have proper conectivity as i can update all the other wallets even bitcoin wallet, but not this one.
what can i do to fix this?, thanks.

...maybe its because the DAO hangs the ETH wallet.....

How much time it takes ethereum-wallet usually to synchronize? The speed I have, it could take like a week or so.
2 weeks here and i just got to 1.200.000, at this speed probably gonna take another week to finish, unbeliveable.

did i mention that i have to start and stop all the time the geth because it stops downloading and never resumes?
did i mention that geth kill completely my upload bandwidth all the time? had to create a firewall rule to limit upstream traffic or i will not be able to mine, not even navigate when i have this wallet runing... geezz....

Hello
I'm not sure this is the right place but i don't get reddit to post there.

I was trying to install the ethereum wallet for the last 2 weeks.

I am a long time bitcoin, litecoin and now altcoin miner since 2012, have a couple of farms, so this is not my first rodeo.

I try to install the wallet in windowsXP but it doesn't execute (something to do the way it was packed)
so I create a VM with windows 7 64 and download 64 bit version: it doesn't work, not even execute (this time, no errors)
downloaded the 32 bit version, starts but says that the background process is not present whatever that means.
reading a lot i figured it out (because NOWHERE in the official places says that) that i must execute geth first.

now, geth is not present on the x64 version of the wallet !!! WTF ??!?!

I copied geth from the 32 bit version to the 64 bit version and now it works, but i have to manually start FIRST geth then the wallet.

now, i have been waiting for 2 WEEKS for it to update! come on! what is going on??, the geth process works for 10 maybe 30 minutes and stops updating, still killing my entire upload stream, making me impossible even to navigate, but it stops updating after 30 minutes at most!.

sometimes when i launch it, it does even begin to update, sometimes just updates 5 blocks and stops.

i addedd static-nodes.json but nothing changed, sometimes updates, sometimes not, sometimes just a few blocks and stops

I had to create a queue tree rule (HTB) in the mikrotik router to lower the outbound internet usage of the wallet to avoid issues with my miners (stale work due to lack of upload speed).

I'm on the block 1100000 now, still 400000 to go, so should i keep fighting like this for another week before i can take the money from the pool?

so:
2 options

1) I am doing everything WRONG, and i am an idiot. (which i hope this is the reason, because the alternative would be troublesome)

or

2) the wallet is a piece of crap, like i have never ever seen before, in my more than 4 years as a miner, in this case i can't believe that you guys did this like that on purpose, i just cannot believe it.

so, I hope it is option 1, and I am the idiot, if this is the case, what I am doing wrong? can you tell me please? i just wanna use the damn wallet!!!!!, I am not trying to design a asic in VHDL, come on!, this is extremely basic functionality, how can this be that hard!.

sorry for the tone, but i am growing desperate with this, just wanna use the wallet, that's it, what i am doing wrong?
thanks
indkt

How do I hodl ETH?

You can buy the bitcoin in exchanges, then transfer to your own wallet. Then hold it for the long term.
