yeah the block rewards are going down too. I think it is actually stabilising before the inevitable slow climb upwards. I would much prefer a slow climb, less volatility then. Also the buying support is clearly there, check it out https://cryptrader.com/.

massiveman do me a favor dude, analyze this chart for me, like i'm an idiot

The price should go up now, it can't go any lower anyways. Also at the current diff is not profitable to sell, so I would expect the price to rise considerably

There's already a HelixCoin, which promptly died after the dev dumped his premine Smiley

With the amount of coins that are created every day , and with the orders on coingen , it won't be that long before your "dream" will be born.

24 hour volume on mintpal still around 50BTC... someone is buying up those coins.
Coins that are not scrypt based, and so cannot be mined and dumped by multipools, have some potential.

Also, miners, traders and long-term holders are also hopefully seeing a few writings on the wall. Even "whale" traders entering with big $ into the scene got burned by dumps (e.g. Maxcoin, which isn't scrypt but was a mine&dump fest either way which I witnessed at the mcxNow trollbox) and moved money out of crypto, so hopefully the rest of us are not dumb enough to dig the hole further. Again, I hope ...

A single person is intelligent. People en masse are quite irrational and very very dumb.  Hope and wishful thinking has nothing to do with it. Fear and greed will drive the value of these coins, nothing more- nothing less.

It's not just a matter of wishful thinking, it's if people can or cannot stop being dumb and realize they are actually screwing themselves with brainless immediate dumps. The bet is that yes they can, because it's already hitting where it hurts.

See what, for example, multipool dumps have done to scrypt Pow based coins. What long-term investor is going to pick those and be on the wrong side of the dump?? I could even go back and actually criticize middlecoin a bit less than the others, because in July 2013 it was experimentalism, the guy keep quiet about coins he was mining, and he actually traded and sold carefully. With 10+ now that just hop, mine and sell (and even exploit with proxies and Doge "random" blocks), scrypt is sterile ground. This leaves an opportunity for multipool incompatible coins

I'm also saying this because I actually belong(ed) here, and frustrated for contributing to kick my own ass and destroy other people's value alongside with it. I also joined such bandwagons for the quick easy satoshis. How many of us do, from small miners to large datacenters with Gridseed asics? Learning takes time, but be sure it's faster when one gets screwed.

HVC also currently has the third largest volume out of all the coins on mintpal, right under Spaincoin and Blackcoin. Seems like it might be primed for a serious run up from here soon...

Yup , there are still buy orders around. Hope that bitcoin going down won't make people fleeing again to fiat.

http://heavychain.info/ seems down   Huh

I hope their server(s) don't crash with sudden rise of hashing power rush  Grin

Otherwise all GPUs which are running at low temperature compared to scrypt mining will be Ice-Cool   Roll Eyes

it actually was this thread

I feel like they handled that well... Many other "CPU only" coins were turned GPU, and the fact that it was done so fast must mean there is some serious interest in this coin.
Thanks.

Update

Here's an update from the Heavycoin developers.

Stratum-mining

We have released the stratum-mining software today.  It has been made compatible with 1GH's private closed source stratum-server, so you should be able to switch your external miners between the different pools.  Although 1GH is easy to set up, we strongly recommend you to spread your mining among many pools in order to improve decentralization.

GPU mining

It looks like GPU developers have overcome hefty1, giving GPUs an advantage for mining Heavycoin.  We tried some new ideas with hefty1, but much to our disappointment it was not enough.  So, we must take our hats off to the GPU mining developers.

On the one hand, this is disappointing to us because we worked hard to try to make Heavycoin CPU-only forever.  On the other hand, this could actually be good thing because it means Heavycoin is now opened up to a new crowd of stakeholders and interests.  The amount of GPU mining interest Heavycoin is receiving is a very positive sign.

We would like to dispel the myth that GPU mining means an increased or faster increase in the supply of Heavycoin.  This is simply not true because the Heavycoin retargeting algorithm is working well to maintain the desired mint rate of 1 block (approximately) every two minutes.

We are happy that Heavycoin was (at least) able to give CPU-miners the first week of mining, which is often the most profitable window to mine (as the difficulty has much to adjust).  At this point we would like to ascertain to what degree Heavycoin is GPU-resistant (eg. how much CPU does it still require in order to GPU mine) before updating our website.

Our plan going forward to is to continue to support the core Heavycoin software, assist mining pools wherever possible and support the Heavycoin community with the bounties and future development fund.
