Nice, can MegaCoin grow 10x from here? To $1.00? If so, there might be some renewed talk about this coin. Right now, it's interesting but nobody who isn't actively paying attention will really notice.

At $1.00 all kinds of new speculators would jump in. PIVX is one of the most hyped speculations since it hit $1.00 and its from nothing other than the price. I think at those prices MegaCoin would get relisted on all sorts of exchanges.

As far as the Kim Dot Com connection, he's been in extensive legal proceedings with the U.S. since before this coin was even released. If it were really him I'd expect him to wait until he is acquitted before publicly owning the coin.

well there are certainly some stashes out there that are beginning to be worth a considerable amount of money now.

Volume has been steadily increasing along with the price.

Just while I was playing a game of online risk tonight the price went up by 3 cents, back in the top 100... market cvap over 4 million dollars and top 30 in trade volume...

Not bad. If only my wallet would bloody sync.

Might have to get a Mac lol

That being said, I have followed MEC for years, and am all for kimoto coming forward to at least allow MEC development and progress to happen.

I am 100% sure that he is actually still reading this thread.

If you look at the exchange, sure China is buying up every dead coin known to man at the moment.

If you look at MEC's blockchain however, there is not a lot of MEC being sent from wallet to wallet.

So yes, there are "reasons" the price is up, but probably not why you think.

with the low value attatched to MegaCoin why the hell would you even bother to spend it?

If you remotely believe MegaCoin will have a resurgence then trading at these prices is robbing yourself.

I think that's a major problem for a lot of old coins. Valuations drop on a loss of investor confidence then the trading volume drops because those who believe it might comeback refuse to dump at low prices or for a loss.

If some people with deep pockets figure this out they can go buy up the available supply on 'dead' or 'hibernating' coins and breathe life into the market at an extreme profit. I believe has been happening and will continue.

I do not believe there is a resurgence at all.  The handful of old dead coins that recently skyrocketed all have one thing in common, they trade almost exclusively on btc38.com

So my thinking is that the "deep pockets" are not buying MEC and the others because they fans of the coins themselves.

Something else is going on.

https://www.coinexchange.io/network/peers/MEC

This website lists a ton of (supposed) MegaCoin peers.

To sync your wallet if you are not getting peers, go into the console of your wallet and type:

addnode 88.99.68.228 add

and hit enter

That is the first node on that website's list, it is in Germany.

Repeat this for as many nodes as it requires for you to start getting peer connections. I don't know how up to date that site is but I used it a few weeks ago and it worked for me.

I download this and get zero active connections...

what am I missing? says 32 bit and I have 64bit... is that the deal? wallet opens it just does not sync and when I hover the cursor over the connection icon at the bottom right of the wallet. It just says zero active connections.

I have no put my wallet.dat file in yet as I want to make sure the wallet is working before doing so.

I am not super competent at such things, I think it is just me missing something obvious?

I had the same issue and had to leave my wallet open for a few hours before it started to sync.
If your still getting 0 connections I would recommend adding some new nodes through the console.

I still think he is Kimoto...

Who knows, but today is seeing good growth with 25% increase in value and over $60,000 worth traded.

That is a lot of coins at 2.5 cents each.

There are some big stash holders, it will be well worth their while to get a developer inviolved if the price continues to rise with all the other alts.

The Chinese seem to like it.

Megaupload 2.0 was just announced by Kim Dot Com.

Was it ever totally disproved that he is Dr. Kimoto?

It's unfortunate that kimoto removed himself from MEC, without turning over the github credentials to other trusted developers.

This coin has suffered a devastating blow due to a single point of failure.

Seems to be doing OK.

at a hair under $0.02 a coin at the time of writing this post, it is the same value as it was prior to the big climb in 2013 when everything went nuts...

Is a shame most of the community dwindled, but I have been keeping a close eye...

Was disheartening having to go to page 2 on CMC to find MEC, but seeing a coin needs to have more than 2 million dollar marketcap to be in the top 100 these days... It was nice to see MEC still ticking along.

Altcoins seem to be taking more and more of a percentage of all out volume every time I look.

Go the chinese!
