I usually work on mining software in my spare time, not cryptonote coins. But I would try my best to
bring back this coin from its Zombie state.

The only mistake as he wrote it presidentcoin stop synchronization block 22400. It's easy to overcome, if you download Blockchain after this block. And the coin is running. I took Blockchain transferred from another computer and it worked.

what's wrong with mountcoin (and I am pretty sure that quantumcoin already exists) ?

Unless I am mistaken, for us to transfer our coins (to an other coin wallet) it is still necessary to keep alive the actual blockchain
If you start a new coin with the same genesis block, you destroy all the coins which were produced along this one.

So unless you fix the blockchain we are screwed as it is impossible to transfer anything from our wallet.
