I got the same. Download the blockchain data from the Navajo website. Not the OP, link seems to point to old wallet.
The failed start also seemed to create some initial files which upset it after placing blockchain data there (maybe cos mine was a virgin install), so I had to del those files too before starting the wallet. BE CAREFUL with your wallet.(.dat)!!! But working fine now.

ALWAYS SYNC YOUR OLD WALLET BEFORE YOU DOWNLOAD ANY UPDATE.

BACK-UP YOUR WALLET AFTER IT HAS FINISHED SYNCING.

CLOSE YOUR CLIENT AFTER SAVING YOUR BACK-UP FILE.

COPY YOUR WALLET.DAT FROM YOUR APPDATA AND SAVE IT (PASTE IT) IN A SAFE LOCATION (LIKE EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE, ETC).

YOU CAN NOW DOWNLOAD THE UPDATE AND OPEN THE NEW CLIENT.

ERROR MESSAGES RESULT WHEN YOU DO NOT FOLLOW THE ABOVE PROCEDURES.

Those of us new to NAV don't have an old wallet to sync. Most fresh wallet installs will download the chain on first startup not error out. It will catch out many non techies who will assume it will just work as expected like their other wallets.
