You can start forging after 1440 confirmations of your first outbound transaction. If you didn't make any transactions yet and are just viewing the balance of your account, you must first send a small amount of coins to yourself to enhance the security of your account to sort of 'confirm opening the account'. After 1440 confirmations of that first transaction, your account is freely accessible and you are allowed to forge, as well as get an automatic security upgrade for your account.
Think of it sort of like getting your new ATM/credit card in the mail and activating it with your first swipe. In the case of NFD, you need your *first incoming transaction and first outgoing transaction* to be confirmed 1440 times, each, then your account will be fully authenticated and active.
Why should we all forge right now? Besides collecting transaction fees (similar to mining for other cryptos without all the hardware costs), running our clients and forging is helping to strengthen our growing network by providing nodes and access points all over the world. Going to bed? Leave your client open! use some bounty coins to boost transactions on the network? send a message plus fee of even 10 once per block would be reasonable...

Just wanted to point out that a lack of forging nodes is an inherent problem of all POS coins. Since in the beginning there is no direct reward to forging.

At this point there is no use in forging, since there aren't enough fees to make it worthwhile.A p2p crypto coin need forging nodes. When only a few nodes with a huge stake are forging the probability of forks is much higher.
If you want to have something from your coins you should start to forge!

I have 1440+ confirmations but forging still not works. "Your balance is zero.....blablabla"

Only the incoming transaction has 1440 +.The outgoing has only 1300.Sorry it was my fault.
