Dual mining technologies on a single chip is not a good idea, there are almost no common parts between the two hashing engines, the silicon for the scrypt engine is a waste of space unless LTC price goes up considerably. Also, the scrypt engine will be relatively power hungry.

...As for SFARDS I wish them good luck with their chip, especially with routing it.
i agree. There's very little real benefit to this compared to simply having seperate sha256 and scrypt mining devices. pretty sure whatever gridseeds are still in use are 100% dedicated to BTC at this point.

I am holding lot of hope for them.  They really did a great product last time with the small ones then the blades.  Price I can't blame them on all scrypt did it.

I would be happy if they made a miner that made scrypt profitable.   I would love to mine it again.

The BTC side we can hope for some efficiency, as it seems right now were kinda in between generations.

dual mining did work on the gridseed even though it was a forked version of cgminer and minerd.   i was able to dual mined with the previous hardware as long heat was low and 12v 5 amps power was used..

For those of you unfamiliar with scrypt physical implementation please read this excellent article by Alpha Technology:

https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0CCEQFjAA&url=https%3A%2F%2Falpha-t.net%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2F2013%2F11%2FAlpha-Technology-Scrypt-Analysis-on-FPGA-proof-of-concept.pdf&ei=ljMXVarbNJHaaIH-gZAB&usg=AFQjCNG9nKGtWnMgUeKH2mHZclPgyOxKIw&bvm=bv.89381419,d.d2s

It was for an FPGA implementation but it shows very clearly the arithmetic, logic and memory processes. In particular, have a look at the last part that shows hashrate against frequency for a single engine. Factor in the power requirement on a 28nm implementation and you'll see exactly why it's a bad idea right now.

Yes, I know Alpha has it's problems but I always respect any company that freely publishes knowledge for the benefit of others.

As for SFARDS I wish them good luck with their chip, especially with routing it.

Sfards can you share some pictures of the prototipes or something about your progress?

Yeah I think that might be beneficial too. Just a front desk is really that convincing that there's a product to go with it. Do spondoolies know these guys personally?

Dude they will have a product.  My fear is it will drop like a rock in price like they did last year.

they sold blades for 3000 and before the first one was delivered they halved the prices.  They sold blades as low as 125 dollars.

They had a price war with gaw miners and it ended up killing the alt coin market.

Of course you could say it was GAW miners fault.  And all this is 1 year old news.  I decided not worth holding out my hand looking for a review model. Let others have a chance.

Ah gotcha, sorry didn't realise they'd already had something out in the past. Thanks Smiley

If you read first post it tells this "Sfards is the result of the recent merger between Gridseed and WiiBox. "

The good news is gridseed's were a popular product.  So I'm hoping for good things.  I wish we had updates as I'm interested what the product will be.

The gridseed blades were nice. I have had as many as 17 of them running on 1 pc.  but 11 or 12 ran better.

They dropped in price like a rock but LTC dropped from 40 bucks to 3 bucks and scrypt crashed and burned like a mofo.

This gear needs to let btc-256 work at under .4 watts a gh to be worth-while. It needs to clock to .3 watts a gh if you want to run underclocked.
It needs to ship in under 45-60 days from today.

A simple switch  for all btc-256 or  all scrypt would be better then dual mining.
The worst it can do is dual mining of btc- scrypt with software auto switching.------------ This will only serve to hurt btc prices.
It needs a decent price in the depressed btc price market.

I have high hopes that Sfards will turn out to be a breath of fresh air like Spondoolies was. MinerEdge is looking interesting too!

Met Frank Lee Guo Hongcai in HK Bitcoin Conference last year very charismatic fellow. Grin

He has the pulse of the whole mining scene in China from what I remember. Arm around Frank guess he was checking things out.

Should be interesting to see this as it moves forward.

Gratz on the tapeout.

Edit. Mixed up slightly. Didn't realize they were named left to right.

Missed this announcement but this  looks very interesting .Spondoolies-Tech commented on your thread which adds a lot of credibility given the behavior of other manufacturers.

Looking forward to the updates

I'm a little scared as well on scrypt prices.  They were not the only one it was entire section of scrypt asics that drop overnight, and kept dropping.  To be fair scrypt asics were bringing in a LOT especially if rented at a point back then.

I guess we will find out, but I'm hoping that is a one time thing we don't have to worry about.
