i guess there's some issue with the code that makes it hard to initially connect.
one seednode should be enough

Yeah true, but those issues you mention show a dev who cant support his coin.  I been trying to get this to work since yesterday and am still having problems. I think its better to just give up, delete this shit and move onto another coin.

I'll give it one more day for the dev to get his shit together. Lets see what happens.

Shell is one of those rare coins where I've never had a single problem getting connections.  Have you checked that the problem isn't your end?

As for the "dev who can't support his own coin" needing to "get his shit together".  Look back a few posts, you are aware the dev is no longer around, right?

If you are in windows go to C:\Users\YourUsername\AppData\Roaming\Shell\
If you are on linux go to /home/YourUsername/.shell

Make a file named shell.conf (cAsE matters)

add these lines to your conf file

Code:
rpcallowip=127.0.0.1
rpcuser=makeup_a_username
rpcpassword=makeup_a_password
server=1
daemon=1
listen=1
staking=1
addnode=178.62.19.234:12454
addnode=85.25.198.151:12454
addnode=84.25.42.239:12454
addnode=5.45.179.149:12454
addnode=5.45.179.149:12454
addnode=148.251.41.117:12454
addnode=85.25.198.151:12454
addnode=178.62.19.234:12454
addnode=37.59.18.108:12454
addnode=109.92.237.241:12454
addnode=74.77.15.47:12454
addnode=50.27.57.17:12454

It would help non techies if the dev added a .conf file download link to the OP. Not everyone finds it easy to make a .conf file.

I had this problem as well and was ready to scratch my eye balls out.  The fix is so stupid easy it will make you want to punt a puppy.

First delete all you have done and start from scratch.

Code:
git clone https://github.com/bitcoin/secp256k1
git clone https://bitbucket.org/shellnode/shell

First build libsecp256k1
Code:
./autogen.sh
./configure
make
./tests
sudo make install
sudo ldconfig
LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/local/lib
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH
The last three commands are the ones that make the magic happen.

Next, lets build Shell
I had to chmod my build_detect_platform file soooo....do this.

Code:
cd /src/leveldb
chmod +x build_detect_platform

Code:
qmake
make

or for headless

Code:
cd src
copy /shell/src/crypto folder to /shell/src/obj
make -f makefile.unix

Hope this helps.  Still kind of a linux newb...

can anyone help with this error in compiling the daemon
i've compiled secp256k1 into ~/secp256k1

Code:
/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lsecp256k1
collect2: error: ld returned 1 exit status
make: *** [shelld] Error 1

i've got to go out,
hopefully someone can help by the time i get back Cheesy

I too am getting the same error. Any help guys.  Angry Huh

I vaguely remember having similar issues but don't recall how I fixed it.

I just checked my source folders and I have the secp256k1 folder as a sub-folder of ~/shell/src.  You could try moving it there and compiling.

Is this coin getting taken over?  Shocked Shocked

We could arrange a takeover if the community wants or if the dev needs help! let me know I can work out the arrangements...I currently own a good amount of Shell so maybe I will make an offer!

I'm not sure if it is too soon. The dev has not been active since May 21st. Wouldn't want to kidnap someone's baby.
