In my opinion, the sia team's fork this time only hurts the entire sia system for their own interests. Time will prove

I agree, but I don't see the point of this, in my opinion this is not in the interest of "miners" or the majority of SIA holders/belivers, but let's wait and see, as you also said, time will tell.
do you know what updates will be after fork?

Hello!
Who can answer why do developers require users to upgrade the client before the fork?
What happens if I do not upgrade the client to any of the versions before the fork? And update only after?

The hard fork will come into effect by the October 31st. There’s no plan to issue new coin. If somebody will do it, basing on the old network, the new coin might be issued but there are no guarantees that any exchange will support it.

I also get why a fork might draw a lot of attention but whats it really going to matter if the product isn't finished and user-friendly? Are there even real-life cases of sia being used other than for speculation?

yep without that and 7 out of 8 Siacoin miners in the world being 'non-obelisk' without that the orphan chain (or I suspect siacoin classic) would have better odds of survival. Harsh, but their decentralized cloud storage anonymous network at 10c to Amazon Clouds NON-anonymous centralized (they know you) at $1. Well w/o
their plan...the coin is no better than Garlicoin or any other sh*tcoin of dubious use.

Put up or shut up time. Siacoin will live or die by their network vision above. No, if's and's or but's. IMHO.

So sia is forking because their asic is unprofitable to run and because all the miners left the forum well people didn't leave because of bitmain and other asic they left because it was a big f u to GPU miners, but now the only people who will make money is the miners who own a obelisk that now is no longer for sale so explain again how this is decentralized

Hi, I want to upgrade, but can't find clear documentation on how to do this on Ubuntu.
I've downloaded the latest client. I can start siad from here with a -d flag to ~/.config/Sia-UI/sia/ and it connects to my current installation.
When I start the Sia-UI, it's not connecting to the running daemon. How do I fix this?

xUSD - The PRIVATE stable coin - Haven Protocol

Does Bittrex support these forks or do I need to move them to a private wallet just in case?

Ledger not supported yet right?

leave and hodl your SIA on SIAs official wallet version 1.3.6 (lastest)
there is no better way to hodl your coins that keep them secure on official wallets

heh...

obelisk needs a 'switch' to change algo's or allow their decred miner to just mine ONE of the decred coins as an option..or something...the decred miner is a 'brick'

I'm getting one FREE for 5 1/2 coupons from my 'dubious' siacoin miners purchase. Right now, if I had one in hand, I'd lose -40c a day if in hand now.

This is 2nd batch so likely other 4-6 weeks before arrival

-0.02c per day! Amazing a NEW unit and FREE and it looks likely I would never make a profit on it over electric costs. By the time it arrives.

Well, it is prettier than just having the 5 coupons lay about I guess. Paperweight wise. Smiley But I mean 'really'! Sad

At 1200gh and 14c kWh for data hall electric rates and rent and 500 watts...

Hour    0.000000    0.001386    0.000008    $0.05    $0.07    -$0.02
Day    0.000000    0.033256    0.000200    $1.28    $1.68    -$0.40
Week    0.000000    0.232794    0.001401    $8.93    $11.76    -$2.83
Month    0.000000    0.997688    0.006004    $38.28    $50.40    -$12.12
Year    0.000000    12.138542    0.073045    $465.77    $613.20    -$147.43

Anyway, an aside for those on here that 'only' got stuck with the siacoin version of obelisk machines..it could be worse...

please tell me. will be the distribution of coins? or not?

What distribution are you talking about? Is SIA switching holding an airdrop or something?

I think after the fork of Siacoin, it is impossible to mine this coin with a Bitmain or Innosilicon ASIC miner. But is it still possible to mine Sia or will it be a POS system after the fork?
it will be a pos mining after the fork

i follow a bit but
can someone resume in a few words all what is with Sia?

if i understand  Nebulous  build miners for sia, it s not an sia competitor, unless they make a fork, but then they gonna need a team otherwise they gonna have an old sia coin what is going no where ?

as i remember there is also Hyperspace, unless it s going no where too
and 1 or 2 other similar project than sia i forgot the names

Bitcoin Talks Bullshit Walks
October 13, 2018, 06:13:43 AM
On October 1, 2018, Nebulous announced their intention to fork the Sia network to invalidate all other ASICs except Obelisks by activating the alternate algorithm at the end of October 2018. See the Sia Network Forks page for more details on the decision.

To lead one must set an example.  What example does this set?  If I don’t like how and who mines my coin I decide to fork.  How much development time is lost in that never ending battle.  Look at progpow and the likes. If this shit keeps up further development will always drag its feet.  It’s like those who oppose this know every fiddle string to pull and the devs and masses follow like sheep. Or react like sheep I should say.  The first proactive move was satoshi with btc. Everything after that has been reactive measures mostly to slow development.  Miners have to obey the rules too.  Sadly some don’t have any vision other than make a buck by any means possible. I mean I guess that’s alright for survival up to the point karma kicks in.  Well we all know how that plays out.  Anyway all the worlds a stage learn enough and one can play too🤓
