he (wis-sam) seems to be a potential difficult/demanding customer
with so many machines you never know-someone with 300 Sp-10 defaulted at digital fortress, but it is just an example.
Toom.im requires customers to pay for hosting in advance. If they don't pay on time (and we don't grant them an exception), then the machines stop hashing, and we sell the capacity to someone else. If they want their machines back, then the customer pays return shipping costs to the shipping company. No handling charges. Customers never owe us a debt, and therefore can't default. It's simpler this way.

I'm curious about this 300 SP10 default. Link?

The noise is killing my roommate in the basement as well , I think ill work on getting it shipped to you, how much will it cost to ship from Minneapolis.
$52 UPS Ground, $132 3-Day Select, etc. 18 kg. Contact [email protected] if you want a shipping address.

The PSUs are also much louder on 120V than on 200+V. Lower efficiency means more heat, which means faster fans. You could also reduce the noise by putting them on a 240V line.

I am at an undisclosed location here in Europe and the best price on energy I can get is 0.1093 €/kWh ~ 0.1458 $/kWh exclusive VAT (and we have 20% VAT here, which I may or may not be able to omit, depending if I can let the company pay for and operate my mining endeavor).

And NO, I'm not in the least interested in any cloud or data center mining offer!

Mining margins are going to be getting much thinner as time wears on. Only those with the cheapest (and hopefully also cleanest) electricity running the most efficient hardware will be able to make a profit. That's when people will stop adding to the network hashrate, and the so-far inexorable push of the difficulty will finally meet its end. There are places in the world that pay 1/7th of what you do for electricity. I'm in one of them.

If you insist on mining at home, then you have three options, as far as I can see it. you can either

1) Move somewhere with cheaper electricity,
2) Mine at a loss, or
3) Stop mining.

Mate if the promise of 6TH and 2500W was delivered no one will be complaining about anything, even if it was pre-order as long as they received what they paid for in the time they paid for it. Now we are stuck with paying more hosting fees due to extra power consumption and getting less mining speed as well which means more expenses and less income. I suggest you think about what you are saying before belittling what others have to say. P.S. You don't see me whining at the rate is dropping and we're screwed even more, that is not SP's fault but what is SP's fault is what I pointed out.

So if SP wanted to keep their customers happy they should give a better compensation that will allow for us to at least get our ROI so that we don't lose and just MAYBE some of us will consider buying future products from them, but after my experience I don't think I will be doing any pre-order from them, so SP you should try hard and deliver from stock for your SP50 otherwise you will lose a lot of business.

I have a right to share my experiences because I paid a lot of $$$ and I've been inconvenienced by the seller so people need to understand this and listen to customers' testimonials and stop bitching about it's the customer's fault, it is NOT the customer's fault.

Message for everyone reading this topic: Please pay attention and don't get fooled by pussies with money. I have highlighted the relevant part. Now please read this:

Hi Spondoolies,
As you know I have purchased 20 x SP30 devices with hosting expecting 6TH each for a total of 120TH while incurring on going hosting expenses for 20 devices ($24,000 every 3 months)...

20 miners, 120TH/s, $48,000 per 6 months.

We have chosen to host 29 x SP30s with Toom.im (September Batch 1). Please reserve the spots for us...

29 miners, 130.5Th/s, $45,000 per 6 months (current price at this time at Toom.im)

We're screwed BIG time buddy, I bought 29 x SP30s and I don't think I will be able to get an ROI unless a miracle happen and the difficulty stops going up so fast...

So he got 10Th/s extra than what he ordered and cheaper hosting than he planned and he is still screwed. For a guy who invested more than $100k wissam lacks a pair of balls and is a big cry baby from my point of view.

Now read everything again.

I don't see how ROI on the miners can be achieved if the difficulty increases so fast before the miners can even get to us and make any respectable $$$. Looks like our only hope is if the BTC to USD rate goes up and that's not a gamble anyone should be taking with their money, and on the other hand if BTC to USD drops then you can see how the people mining are the ones that are screwed even further here...

Personally I don't believe the cost of the hardware itself is justified, it's too expensive and the hardware manufacturers keep the buyers thinking that at current mining difficulty and rate they will get their money back in 3 months, but that is not true.

When I purchased the miners in July 24 or so the difficulty was about 17.34G at a BTC to USD rate of $650 expecting to get a decent return, now I still don't have my miners and I have to wait another 1 month, have spent $125,900 USD to Spondoolies, difficulty is now at 23.84G at a BTC to USD rate of $500. By the time I get my miners up and working the difficulty will be about 30.00G if not more and even if the rate stays at $500 I'm basically still screwed because the miners will probably not make their money back before they out live their useful life.

Everyone better think well and hard before buying mining equipment on pre-order with 2 months waiting time, never again. I hope I can get my money back by running my 29 x SP30 miners until they end up in the bin by January or February 2015...

Mining Hardware producers like Spondoolies and the rest are pretty much safe. We are the ones worried about getting our money back while they sell us expensive hardware on pre-order.

Anyone who pre-orders anything with a lead time of a couple/several months doesn't get the right to complain in my opinion. I don't care if you spent $4000 or $40,000 worth of hardware. You went online and spent money on something you knew wasn't available yet, wasn't realized yet, wasn't proven yet, wasn't realistic yet. Of course the bitcoin manufacturer is going to act like a care salesman. They are there to sell and take your money. While they won't lie to you, they may omit some information that may change your mind about ordering their hardware. I'll only pre-order or give a small interest free loan to a company if it is guaranteed I'll make all my money back and then some.

Is it ok to turn fans down from 80% to like 60%
That depends on the intake air temperature. The chips should throttle before any damage can be done though.
I think much of the noise comes from the PSU fans, but I might be mistaken.

True. Try 70 and see on asic stats page. If asics or dc2dc get too hot return to 80. The problem is I dont remember what is too hot for dc2dc, but under 100c is definietly not too hot.

You are doing it wrong. I get 0.16$/kWh in my residential house. Check my signature for a link with cheaper hosting.

Even that is expensive for residential. We pay .1 here in CO, and even our professional DC Colo only runs ~.135/kwhr

I pay 11.865 cents tax included CDN per KWH. I ca write off my electricity and equipment costs as they are bought by my business. Still though it is too much.

is toomim up for ...sam?
will be interesting to see how it plays out

I don't understand this question.

Is it possible to have a drop in the sp10 hosting fee ?

sp10 3 month = 600$  => 1050 Watts =>  0.57 $/Watts/3months
sp30 3 month = 1200$  => 3000 Watts => 0.4 $/Watts/3months

We at Toom.im host SP10s for $390.60 for 3 months.

By the way, an SP10 uses about 1390W. The 1050W figure is the DC rating of the power supply. SP10s are typically run at about 1250W, or about 20% above their rating. (Emerson, the PSU manufacturer, approved this.) When supplying 1250W of DC, the PSU uses about 1390W of AC, for an AC2DC conversion efficiency of about 90%.

Right now the box is hashing on egelius at ~3989 TH VOLTAGE
119/120 front temp 20c rears around 60c

In settings it seems the default watage is capped at 1300 or so on 120v
I wont tweak anything for a day or so to see what hashrarate I can get from factory settings

Anyone have any tips for 120v perf tweaking?

3989 GH/s sounds about right for 120V.

I was able to get better hashrate on 120V when using 2.2.28. I got the performance of my SP30 up to 4150 GH/s on that version by tweaking the PSU limits manually. Zvisha hard-limited the PSU performance to something like 1100W in later versions of the FW, so even though you see 1300W on the settings page, you're not getting it.

On the next difficulty (27B), the extra 500 GH/s you'd get by running on 200+V would earn you about $137/month. This is about half of our hosting fee at Toom.im, where we use 254V. In order for hosting on our 254V to be a worse deal than running it at home, you'd have to get your electricity for less than $0.07/kWh, and you'd have to have free cooling and not have the noise be a problem at all.
The noise is killing my roommate in the basement as well , I think ill work on getting it shipped to you, how much will it cost to ship from Minneapolis.

That also sucks that the psus are limited that way though.

Edit: Its doing 4100 th now 120v

With our price for energy here the SP31 will not even close reach a positive ROI, so my best bet would be the next generation SP50.

I'm really impressed by the Spondoolies-Tech company, they could have owned the market, but with such ridiculous long delivery times and only optimizing current technology it unfortunately is not leading anywhere. But I'm confident that (small scale or private) mining is not over yet, it's just a matter of putting more GH into one box and getting W/GH below 0.5 (off the wall).

Where are you and what do you pay for electricity per KWH?
