A 3U or 4U unit using 120mm fans could achieve similar airflows with much less noise if scaling up. The dawson-30 will be a good example of this

The noise is related to the need to force a lot of air through a small space. Most high performance 1U servers are very loud.

If you modify the system design you can probably make it quieter (at your own risk of course).

It is also possible to get a soundproof (or at least reducing) enclosure for rack mount gear, at added cost of course.

Production will start on the 6th. We're working to expedite the ASICs shipment.
Most of the systems will be shipped by the 15th.

Adding fan won't help. Our recommendation will be to host in a data center. We'll provide easy way to configure remote access.

I presume the noise is related to the amount of heat being produced within a small area.   Maybe try adding a desk fan, see if noise relates to room temp

I think they accept Paymentcards now because they have passed the trial period at shopify.com, where there site is build and located.

Any way to measure the power consumption?

So, Guy (Spondoolies-Tech CEO) has just dropped by to deliver my sample SP10 – Dawson unit.

The first thing to notice is that it's noisy. I heard it would be noisy (pun intended) but thought I could maybe pull it off - and it really is that bad, I'm probably not going to run it at my home. There's a "slient" mode which sacrifices some performance for quiet, but it too doesn't help very much.

Basically, to operate it all you have to do is connect it to power and to the LAN, and access its control panel through the browser in any computer on the network. They've developed the software tools to make operating the device easy, bu there are still software and firmware issues to work out. We had to mess with it a bit until we got it working, but it looks like it will be fixed soon.



What is more interesting is the hardware. I've configured it to connect to my account at Eclipse MC. After running it for a few minutes to let Eclipse sample the hashrate, Eclipse reported a hashrate of 1.4 TH/s (Holy-Fire_3 in the image). It fluctuated a bit, probably due to sampling errors, but it seems inline with the advertised specs.



Update: I measured power consumption at about 1.3 KW (the measurement isn't completely precise though).

Update 2: I'm told there's some optimization process going on while the device is running. Indeed, after running it for a while the hashrate seems to now fluctuate around 1.5 TH/s.

At current price and release date, expected ROI is never... if the price BTC was $800, 15% increment per diff, 0% fee, $0.05 kW/h, you will still lose money, even if the BTC was $1200 - you might just make 1.5 BTC by end of the year.

Any timeframe to accept hosting?

Hopefully the price comes down alot for the 5Th/s rig.  I would love the ROI to be worth it to the point that I would have them host several.

It's completely of our own design.

Forgive me for being suspicious here, but the Hammer chip sounds awfully similar to the one being offered to developers etc by asicminer, (except that it's supposedly a lot more power efficient).
