Team call notes look very interesting, but I'm a bit confused:

Will Syscoin continue to have its own blockchain and the ethereum stuff be an extra? I see all the development talk is about Ethereum, but you're still releasing this 'Shade' wallet - so will that continue to be developed or is it just a practice run for releasing the real thing on Etheruem?

Syscoin will continue to have it's own Blockchain. Shade will be the culmination of a lot of the work to date, and Blockmarket v1 will run on Syscoin’s blockchain. Following the Shade release Syscoin will more or less be in “maintenance mode”. We will make our best effort to address any major bugs or issues that are discovered but after the release of the improved marketplace and reseller support via Shade we will be focusing our development efforts on SYS2 which is an asset on the ETH blockchain which will be used to power a variety of DApps provided by the team, Blockmarket v2 will be built on a combination of these DApps.

Syscoin has been working on this [1.5.2-shade] for over a year and most of the things we wanted in it are there and working, but a few things we wanted, like trustless escrow, multi-sig encryption, the “v2 wallet” which isn’t based on QT, etc. will move to SYS2 roadmap. We can't just add these features to SYS because they’d take additional time, the bitcoin core isn’t well suited for them long-term, and we'd have to fork with each new feature. We can move faster without the network overhead (forking) by leveraging ETH.

Rather than fork the coin again and again, which is a huge hassle and risky, we’ve packed as much as we can into the Shade release based on the bitcoin core- it takes the marketplace already running on the SYS mainnet and makes it much more useable. We’ll then take everything we’ve learned and use the Shade release as a springboard to leveraging Ethereum’s network to become a provider of decentralized apps - marketplace and escrow being the first - all of these DApps will be fueled by the new SYS2 asset and SYS1 holders will have the chance to convert their SYS1 to SYS2, or continue to hold the SYS1 as its open to being further enhanced by other developers outside of this team. Any SYS1 converted will be burned, increasing scarcity amongst the SYS1 that isn’t converted.

Team notes from the Google hangout Sept 6, 2015.

Development
  • Team finalizing DApp spec for proposal and review with ETH team/Vitalik; targeting delivery of spec by this Wednesday. Spec includes three DApps- asset, marketplace and escrow.
  • Spec development coming along very well, shows clear evolution from Syscoin-Shade release feature set and pivot in team direction (we will build DApps on top of the ETH network instead of maintaining our own network)
  • SYS2 development will be fueled by a new crowdsale- marketing needs to start on this crowdsale ASAP.
  • Major goal of SYS2 crowdsale will be to allow SYS1 holders to transfer equity into new asset (converted SYS1 will be burned)- team brainstormed some options for this conversion / equity % but the primary focus remains Syscoin Shade release and SYS2 Spec.
  • Core devs have started working with DApp code to prepare for the cut-over, half of core-dev remains on 1.5.2-shade work mentioned below.

Syscoin 1.5.2 "shade" Wallet Release and Hard Fork
  • Pegging feature implementation expanded to accomodate a much wider variety of currency pegging options.
  • Core upgrades completed- QT interfaces being updated- targeting release in ~2weeks.
  • Blockmarket v1 to be released alongside Shade; may be a week after the Shade wallet release to allow team to focus on ensuring hard fork is completed properly.

Marketing/Communication
Roadmap on website needs to be updated- updated Roadmap for next few weeks:
  • Complete SYS2 Spec by Wednesday, deliver to Vitalik for feedback
  • Select SYS2 official new name by Wednesday, spool up marketing around crowd sale
  • Complete SYS 1.5.2-Shade QT work, test
  • Investigate options around forming company around SYS2 for purposes of more official investment and for crowdsale and legal reasons
  • Complete Blockmarket v1.0 final touches and test against the Shade API changes
  • Release market.syscoin.org as landing page for Shade release, link to API docs, create simple quickstart guide, and link to SYS2 info
  • SYS2 crowdsale (contingent on confirmation of SYS2 spec/timeline) - specifics still being hashed out
  • Marketing team focusing on finalizing new name and developing marketing strategy around crowd sale
  • Still planning to work with select partners to pre-populate Shade release with marketplace items (partner names TBD)
  • Official block explorer host has changed to https://chainz.cryptoid.info/sys/

Team notes from the google hangout Aug 30, 2015

Development
• Team still working with CIYAM, may get into more in depth partnership in the future but focusing immediate resource on ETH implementation
• Team focusing on going with ETH at the moment
• Putting together full spec for discussion with Vitalik including features such as marketplace, escrow, auctions, certificates, offer-linking, and bidirectional communication between DApps on the ETH chain. If ETH can accommodate all of these use cases we'll move forward with that approach.
• Planning to raise funds for expedited SYS2 development and continued support- the raising of these funds is not happening officially until after the Shade release; SYS2 equity conversion discussions are ongoing but the current primary focus development itself.
• Prerequisite to beginning crowdsale marketing is finalizing the new token name- marketing team focusing on this, collecting suggestions from community as well
• Team discussing how to prevent other's from infringing on our SYS2 DApp code even though its open-source
• Team would be developing several DApps on top of ETH, the marketplace being the first
• Still will deliver all plugins, frontends etc on top of DApp we deliver

Syscoin 1.5.2 "shade" Wallet Release and Hard Fork
• Shade release will now include offer-linking (reselling) and offer refunding but it will be through whitelisting only (those who have a cert you have issued to them will be able to resell your offer if this is enabled on this offer)
• Offer reselling is being release in Shade as a proof-of-concept feature, the complications we encountered when developing this feature for production lead us to the realization that we needed fully turing complete scripts (such as ETH or AT) to solve the problem
• SYS/USD pegging is now complete in Shade release and is being tested- other pegs still possibly being added after testing
• Adding email notification for orders to blockmarket to facilitate real world use and direct integration with launch partner fulfillment systems

Marketing/Communication
• Changing the approach on twitter scheduled tweets to be more relevant to the Syscoin team / goals / initiative
• Focusing on getting brand for SYS2 together in the coming week
• Working with partners to pre-populate shade release with marketplace items (partner names TBD)
• Discussing having a hosted marketplace website powered by the SYS team which allows for 1-click creation of web-based blockmarket that users can customize to their liking with their own custom URL as well. These markets would only show that individuals items and would allow for easy adoption of the SYS marketplace system.
• New marketing initiatives are yielding good results, articles being written on new alt-coin news sites
• Creating logo to market the "Shade" release of the 1.5.2 wallet

Syscoin- Changing the way people do business.

We have added an article on Syscoin to our blog, enjoy Syscoin Prepping iOS Wallet

AltcoinWire

Awesome thank you! And for those of you skipping the team notes I highly encourage you to please read them and ask questions on reddit! We're there waiting to answer any and all questions you may have as soon as we can, or jump into our slack Smiley

Hey folks! Sorry I've been absent from BCT but you can always catch me in Slack!

Glad to see people are excited about what's coming- I know I certainly am. I realize its been a lot of changes/news in a short period of time but we're working with a quickly-changing blockchain landscape (ETH! AT! Counterparty!) and we want to make sure we're not "working in the past". Thus SYS2 came about [working name, not actual name]. We are still going to do the long-planned SYS[1] hardfork which will introduce a fully functional decentralized marketplace on the blockchain, improvements to how Aliases work and improvements to Offers (items) themselves as well.

This release will be codenamed "shade" and is slated for 2-3 weeks from this past weekend. It will feature  a 'shade' of everything we've always advertised but will lack built-in escrow & referral offers (these could easily be added as 3rd party services). It will have additional interfaces to serve the marketplace- add and edit your items, list and view items you have for sale, lookup up and buy items by GUID (or by title- depends on dev bandwidth). A fully operational market within the wallet. Even if ALL web-views into the marketplace are down, the market can still be fully accessed and buying and selling can continue (unstoppable!).

The Syscoin 1.5.2-shade release will also support price pegging! A feature critical to real adoption. As an example: You have items you want to sell for 0.5btc/each (or USD/GBP/etc; designing for several fiat options).  The item's price will be "pegged" to that currency and value; so even as the price of SYS/BTC or BTC/USD fluctuates, you'll always receive the appropriate amount of SYS at time of sale to convert to the pegged currency/value (not accounting for market depth).

Listing (or updating) each item costs a very small fee- smaller than any competitors by far and item listings will last a year (vs the current ~2weeks) or until qty is depleted. Aliases will also be cheaper and last a year (vs the current ~2months). Aliases are fully interchangeable with SYS addresses, you can use them anywhere a SYS address can be used (GUI or command line).

In addition to the 1.5.2-shade release we will also be releasing Blockmarket v1.0! This will be similar to shade in that it will have a portion of the planned features- enough to be a fully operational and USABLE decentralized marketplace. Blockmarket v2.0 will be released on top of SYS2 and will have integrated reseller offers and escrow directly on the blockchain, as well as ecommerce plugins for all the major platforms- something we deferred from SYS to SYS2.

The decentralized marketplace within SYS2 is only one type of DApp we have discussed, we have 3-4 additional DApps we're spec'ing out as well. Those who hold SYS2 will profit from all of the DApps we develop if they choose to convert their SYS1 tokens to SYS2 (which is entirely their choice).

Last but not least we have a REAL iOS wallet that lets you do more than just view your balance- it lets you do pretty much everything to Android wallet app does but on iOS! Rolling out within the next week or two, just finalizing the experience.

---

This is a lot of news, again I would like to suggest if you have a question you'd like answered, please post it on our reddit so we can attach the answers directly to the questions (via comments) rather than having to reference BCT posts/questions that may be scattered across pages. We'll still try to answer all the questions that come up here, but I can promise you a faster answer to reddit questions  Wink https://www.reddit.com/r/syscoin

Where are you most likely to make any announcement first? Bitcointalk is OK but very chaotic whereas the syscoin website is easy access.
Also do you have a slack channel anywhere for Joe Public to access? Slack is much easier to use on a smartphone.

Otherwise good job, been holding coins for 1 year now.

Slack is where you will see announcements first and you might even hear it before that in the millionaires club room(you need to be a slack member also to join the Mil club).

great to see this coin is still alive

My thoughts precisely.

With so many devs bailing on coins these days it is good to see SYS is still going strong!!

Keep up the good work guys! Altcoins and crypto in general need teams like you  Wink

wow syscoin is really taking a beating...
people dont believe in syscoin2?

It was thrown at us with little warning so no surprises there.
Actually any moment they would say would have not been a warning before right?
I mean if they did give a warning, then they would not have warned beforehand for the warning? and so on...

What is the minimum time people believe devs should notify 'the herd' before the actual transition?
Is there already a set date for the transition or is it only a concept and was this the actual warning?

I don't see sys2 as such a bad thing, if our assets are safely transfered and not devaluated in the process then progress is only a good thing right?
Seeing devs doing such a bold step as to so drastically change their coin that a relaunch is needed only proves to me they are serious about it's developement, given they did not silently sold their own assets which they buy back now cheaper, or wait for the relaunch IF sys2 will be worth less then sys1 (for example if there is more total coins or faster mining speed)

Only when we know these details we can judge whats happening here, if above things stay the same then i can only applaud the devs for what they are doing.

AFAIK, no one in the team has liquidated any assets, I certainly have not (bought a little more at these tantalizing prices though; not because I sold before but because I bought a little more with the money I get from my day-job). There will be no dilution of the existing coins, total coins will remain the same between sys1 and sys2; the amount of coins mined per hour will remain the same or be reduced; TBD. We are not looking to make your SYS worth less, to the contrary really. Most of the SYS I and the rest of the team personally own today wer purchased out-of-pocket, plus I've invested over 1.5 years of my time to this project as have my colleagues, we, like the community would certainly not want to see our investment devalued.

I hope that answers the questions that will help you judge what's happening here as you've mentioned. Thanks for the support!

Awesome, good to hear such an honest answer.
Bought another bitcoin and got me some more SYS like you said at these tantalizing prices.
Excited to hear more about the SYS2 developments
Any chance we can keep the name the same at SYS? SYS2 will sound a bit awkward, and since sys1 will be discontinued the name will be available again.

We are ironing out names within the community, the millionaire's club has been actively suggesting various names and we are still ruminating the whole branding however we will not call it syscoin 2 or syscoin 2.0, it will most likely be something completely different but may contain several names for various features SYS may still be part of that but that is TBD Smiley
