There is always a right place for a topic.

I disagree. There are many times where the topic you are starting has already been started 100's of times. Use the search function, and do not ask things like:
What if
Code:
BTC is 1 million
it moon
you lose all coin
government ban exchange
satoshi was named sayoshi
you never hear about bitcoin
bitcoin goes to 0
yadi yadi yada

Reply with relevance to the topic, never spam, try to give a quality statement that might earn you merits.

The reply you are about to type may have already been posted to the thread. A nice rule of thumb is if you can't take the time to read the thread then you probably shouldn't post in it. Do not just go out posting looking for Merits (unless it is a thread offering post review).

OP your post is well laid out, but seriously this is the last thing that should be taught to Newbies. If the only reason they are in this forum is to join a Sig campaign, then they are not going to benefit the forum, and are the reason the Merit system exists. You should start this post by telling them to go out and gain knowledge read up so they can be a valuable contribution to the forum, then maybe join a Sig campaign. This way there won't be another 25 post min. of garbage

As a side note glad you and hellfish, had that trip down memory lane. I'm like a crypto toddler, so I like seeing anything about the old days. I still can't believe some of the shit you vets have been through. I'm going to try and follow some of your mentions and quotes for some light reading during this week of nightshifts. If you have any more good reads post away. I've also been reading through old trust references sometimes you come across some Gems.

Dear sir
I would like you to take my post into your consideration:

not everything is about fees and how much you pay, it is about security of the network and the coin that you are using too. otherwise there are free coins like NANO (old name RaiBlock) that don't even have a fee.

As you can see, the payment channel is based on the HTLC protocol. For more information, you can track the wiki link: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Hashed_Timelock_Contracts. In short, the acceptor/ receiver has to confirm that he has accepted/ received the payment in a given time and the sender has the sum automatically without having confirmation from receiver. Moreover, L.N has its own code of committed transactions. They are are security despite a sudden conflict or other party turn into unresponsive. To better understand why L.n is safe, you can track this link: https://rusty.ozlabs.org/?p=462

Hello, please take a look at this one.

I discovered bitcoin while studying about how to protect my privacy on the internet.

Crytpocurrencies and privacy and closely related. This way many people here care about privacy, however I still see many users in this forum who are not using basic privacy tools, like an ad block.

This simple guide is for those people.

Usually people who think they don't care about privacy say: "I don't worry about  privacy because I have nothing to hide."
When you go to the bathroom you close the door, even if you have nothing to hide.

While surfing on the internet here are a few tools that will help you protect yourself against tracking and privacy invasion.

  • Avoid any Google product. They are not to be trusted as Google will track your data to ad services.

  • Browser recommendation:
Firefox / Brave browser / Tor Browser

  • Browser Extensions: (works even on Firefox Mobile)
    UBlock (an adblocker)
    Decentraleyes (blocks content delivery)
    HTTPS Everywhere

  • E-mail provider:
Consider changing to a encrypted e-mail service, not U.S based
    ProtonMail / Tutanota

  • Search engines:
I know how it's hard to not use Google. The best private alternative is Duckduckgo .
If you find very hard to stop using Google, consider using Encrypted Google  (I really don't know if it is truly encrypted)

  • Encrypt your Android Device - Protect your music, photos, personal data that can only be read with a password.

  • Fix Windows 10 privacy configuration, to avoid Microsoft data collection.

  • Some good VPN (protects your traffic data and enables geo-restricted content):
Proton VPN - Free version available.
    Tunnel Bear Free version available.
Nord VPN - Free version available.
To use full time you will need a paid plan on a good VPN service.

  • Private cryptocurrencies:
Monero (the most popular), PIVX, Dash, Zcash, Particl, among many others.

Important note: Privacy is a never ending task, as you can always do something more. Start doing what is easier for you. There are also many other useful add-ons, programs, etc. This is just a very basic guide, as I see many people who don't even use an adblocker

Hi Gleb!
Can you look through my posts?
I posted this article to guide the basics for beginners .
Thank you

Hi everybody.
I am Nghia, I have been in this market for nearly 6 months and also have many difficulties in finding the basics. I want to share what I know and I hope it will help you.

1. The first thing you need is a Bitcoin wallet:
- You can read more at this thread: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/general-bitcoin-wallets-which-what-why-1631151
- Or you can register here: https://blockchain.info/
2. Where to buy Bitcoin?
You will find where you can buy Bitcoin by choosing your country of residence here: https://www.bitcoin.com/buy-bitcoin/
3. Where is the Bitcoin Exchange:
You can join these popular exchanges:
- Binance: https://www.binance.com/
- Bittrex: https://bittrex.com/
- Bitfinex: https://www.bitfinex.com/
- Huobi: https://www.huobi.pro/
- More here: https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/bitcoin/
4. You can see the total market statistics here:

6. About Bitcoin forum:
You can read it here: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/faq-everything-you-need-to-know-about-forum-activity-account-ranks-and-merit-2766177
7. Can I make money with zero capital?
Yes you can.
If you are new and have no initial capital, you can join the Airdrop and Bounty campaigns.
In order to be able to receive money from these campaigns, you need to have an Ethereum wallet address
You can register here: https://www.myetherwallet.com/
- About Airdrop: You can join this Telegram to update your new airdrop: https://t.me/Airdrops_Token
- About Bounty: You can find information about all Bounty campaigns here:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=238.0
Before joining the Airdrop and Bounty campaigns, you need to evaluate the development of those projects and you will also need to have social networking accounts in order to participate. The most popular are Telegram, Twitter and Facebook.
You can refer to these two ICO review sites:
However, these assessments are for reference only, the decision to participate is up to you.

Important: Absolutely never disclose your personal key to anyone, which will result in your property being stolen. You should use 2 factor authentication on your wallet.

I hope the basics above will help you.
My English is not good, expect you to sympathize.
Good luck.

Hi my post is from local section, but I think it worth a try, why not  Grin

I did a compilation of all ppl of bitcointalk forum who is offering merits:

Here is the compilation thread: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/gringa-avaliando-posts-e-dando-merits-update-2-gringos-dando-290-merits-no-total-2841480 - Please take a look Cheesy

My last post adding you =D

17.O membro @bitcoin_revo está oferecendo 120 merits. Ele vai analisar seu histórico de posts, e então vai meritar de 3-10 posts seus com um merit cada. Ele quer posts de alta qualidade. Há também umas regras simples para aplicação. Leia antes. [HOT]

Para aplicar, escreva simplesmente: "please review"

https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/--3540767

Esse Gringo tá distribuindo 120 merits galera. .

https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/ann-the-utmost-epic-totally-tubular-smerit-giveaway-170-sm-available-3055943

O segundo é bem mais interessante e mais fácil, a meu ver. Você posta uma notícia de criptos relacionada a alguma celebridade, se for uma celebridade nova ele te dará merits. Por exemplo:

50 Cent: https://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/2018/01/25/50-cent-becomes-accidental-bitcoin-millionaire-forgotten-investment/

Didn't know which one to pick, went with this one:

I think the best IDE you can use for Bitcoin/Crypto development is IDEA Intellij.
It's cross platform (you can use it on Ubuntu, Mac or Windows) and you can use the community edition for free. Anyone who has ever worked in software development appreciates a good IDE like Intellij.

As the programming language used for the blockchain is C++, you will need to get a plugin for it to be able to use it in the IDE. You can find some useful info on it here: https://plugins.jetbrains.com/plugin/1373-c-c-

Hey, Gleb!

If it's not a burden, can you take a glance on my posts?

Newbie Guides: Pinned Threads and frequently asked questions

Before everything, let us differentiate THREAD vs POSTS.

Here is the great explanation of greg.harvey.

-THREAD is the initial *starting* post.
POST is a reply to a THREAD or a reply to a post within a thread.
POST is a form of COMMENT

What is pinned thread?
-An important thread thay may serve as a guide for all the newbies and members. It should be read by everyone as this may help a lot of members when, where and how to start posting in the forum.

Why is this pinned threads are important?
- Sometimes, we are unconsciously breaking the rules. To prevent that, pinned posts are usually located at the top of the section and it may include forum rules. This is to seems the awareness of everyone.

This is an example of a thread that is pinned:

Been reading a lot of repeated questions from newbies and they are seem lazy to use the search bar and only bump in didferent sections of the forum creating the same topic all over the forum. It just added spam posts/threads.

I've decided to start this thread to help especially newbies and guide them eventually with thier journey in this forum community.

Newbie must read this before posting

- I registered here in btalk forum and this is the very first thread I have read. It really help me before exploring deeper here.

Activity and merits explained here
- This explained when you are confused as why activity stopped at 14 and why merits is needed to ranked up.

Accounts hacked/unexpected loss passwords

General Forum Rules
-For me, this is the most important thread because forum rules and regulations are here. We can avoid breaking the rules by reading and following this thread.

Do you guys feel the same thirst/hunger to buy/add more fiat to the crypto world. And when is enough ?

Yes, I'm one of those like you who are greedy to take advantage of the red market. But when is enough? It's your money/capital  which will decide if you're gonna stop or continue.

Because of the long downtreand we have been withness to now. Do i start to be positive to what i see right now. And want to take a loan in the bank 50k to buy more of the coins that i have mantion in this thread. The plan is to make 2-3x and sell some and pay back the loan. I know this sounds crazy to most of you and i know it is.

I have heard so much about getting a loan, having a debt or even using a credit card to just invest in some altcoins. But I don't recommend such behavior because it is indeed a risky act. You may not know if the market will dance your moves always. Also, the interest can affect the target profit and the ROI will not surely return in a span of time.

But anyway, it is your own strategy on how you will react to the risk and it is your optimistic side that depends on your success.
 Goodluck, buddy.

[Buy The Dip]
- Buy the Dip - is a slang phrase referring to a practice of purchasing coins following a decrease in prices. After a significant dip in coins and alt coins, investors most likely increased their stock of different coins to gain advantage from what is seen as a potential upward trend.

- This is a strategy is used by some investors and traders when the market suddenly drops and reaches a very low point or what they call a Dip. Some also call this Discounted Coin/Token Sale.

Why to buy at Dip?
-The idea of buying the Dip is based on the movement of price in the market. By purchasing coins after a dip, investors are essentially going at a low entry price or at a discounted sale price. Like all trading strategies, buying the dip is not a sure thing, because some coin price drops are due to negative changes underlying the company's fundamentals of the Coin. Example of this is the investors who followed this strategy on the coin BITCONNECT(BCC). The coin popped earlier this year because the coin is found to be a fraud after they pulled the GREATEST EXIT SCHEME IN CRYPTO CURRENCY. Buying the dips seems to work when the market is oversold.

I would like to end this with a quote saying "A little learning is a dangerous thing" Smiley Hoped this helped you

Hello
I am looking for VB.Net documentation and code examples for using Exchange trading APIs. I found something in C but not in VB.Net.
I wish I could read the info from my account and place trades.

Code:
    Public Sub coinprice()
        Try
            Dim request As HttpWebRequest
Dim response As HttpWebResponse = Nothing
            Dim reader As StreamReader
            ServicePointManager.Expect100Continue = True
            ServicePointManager.SecurityProtocol = SecurityProtocolType.Tls12

            request = DirectCast(WebRequest.Create("https://stocks.exchange/api2/ticker"), HttpWebRequest)

            response = DirectCast(request.GetResponse(), HttpWebResponse)
            reader = New StreamReader(response.GetResponseStream())

            Dim rawresp As String
            rawresp = reader.ReadToEnd()

Dim array As JArray = JArray.Parse(rawresp)

For Each item As JObject In array
Dim name As String = If(item("market_name") Is Nothing, "", item("market_name").ToString())
Dim email As String = If(item("last") Is Nothing, "", item("last").ToString())
                If name = "SUM_BTC" Then
                    Console.WriteLine("Name: " & name)
                    Console.WriteLine("Email: " & email)
                    coinpriceLabel.Text = email & " BTC"
                End If

            Next
        Catch ex As Exception
            Console.WriteLine(ex)
            coinpriceLabel.Text = "Too Many Connections"
        End Try
    End Sub

This works for me. The initial code was on stack exchange I think and I did some alterations myself. Its not finished so don't punish me for it looking hacky.

It also deals with too many connection attempts through an exception.

You will need to add this

Code:
Imports Newtonsoft.Json.Linq

and the appropriate reference

Accounts Connected:
chixka000, netfreak199, Camus, visionary, alexberezov, identifyuser

Proof:

6 of the accounts joined the PECUNIO Signature bounty. At the time they joined in pairs within 5 - 15 minutes of each other and when I looked at the profiles they signed out at similar times
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1G8pBrPNw5gkpwCYLbr-ggqL3HBGSGCud_bUz-gojAfI/edit#gid=1761784155

I looked at chixka000 & netfreak199 first and noticed that they made posts at a similar time and they logged out at similar times. I then looked at another campaign that they were in and found their ETH addresses.

This was just one campaign that I looked at and discovered that all of these smaller accounts were contributing to one account at similar times too.
Netfreak transferred    3,191.48936170213 MWAT to chixka000 15 days ago

visionary transferred  47,285.45675578803 MWAT to chixka000 16 days ago

If you look here chixka is asking about a bounty that he isn't involved with

This has been a long campaign, one I've very much enjoyed. Looking forward to the final spreadsheet being shared
is there any information about calculation of stakes for bounty? at least approximate date? I didn't find announcements from bounty Manager.

However alexberezov was and if you look above alexberezov has transferred bounty earnings to chixka

They have also been connected through merit

Merit summary for alexberezov,

As it stands I have messaged the PECUNIO bounty manager twice and he didn't respond and the spreadsheet still says that they have been accepted but they have moved onto another signature bounty
Thrive Signature bounty
6 of these accounts joined up and what I also noticed is that these accounts are joining in at the end of the campaign each time.

Hey there, this is not mine, but someone else's post that I found incredibly insightful. I'm kinda saving my smerits because I'm planning to do something similar to what you're doing... but if you could step in, I'd appreciate it.

Even worse, I think this kind of censorship could seep over into everyday life, for average Americans as well as for anyone else. Would you criticize, say the US government if you had reason to believe that any political comment online could somehow affect your personal life or your career? I don’t know about you, but this sounds like the beginnings of a surveillance state to me.

What do you think? Am I overreacting? Do you share my concerns?

Hi MJK_Anfaenger,

With all due respect, I believe that the "Subject" that you chose for this thread was in error.  I've corrected it for you in my reply.

Everything we do is capable of being tracked.  Twenty years ago, people talked about being forced to be implanted with a "microchip" and tracked.  There's really no need for that since we've voluntarily submitted to tracking.  We all carry tracking devices, mostly made by Apple and/or Samsung, that can do more than any form of microchipping with today's technology could.  We have Alexa, Siri, Google, and Cortana listening to us, to assist us in our daily tasks.  Our Fitbit's track our every move.  Our watches record our pulse.  Our televisions can listen to and in some cases see us.  Many of us cover our laptop cameras for a reason.  There is no reason to believe that this tracking power has not been used extensively.  In fact, there is much evidence that it already has.

Facebook is just one of many actors that abuse the information that we provide to them.  Google, YouTube, Twitter are others.  There are MANY others as well, consider cloud services such as a Google or Microsoft account.  Also consider cloud infrastructure providers such as Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, Google Compute, etc.  I assume that anything I do online is being profiled by someone for some reason.  There is every incentive for these businesses to cooperate with the three letter agencies.  They often do so without requiring a warrant, usually the "Terms of Service" we agree to give them the right to basically do whatever they want with our data.

Consider the scenario that occurred in Austin, TX last month.  The person that was distributing bombs, how did they locate him?  They filtered through Google searches in the Texas area looking for keywords matching components in the bombs.  That gave them a pool of suspects.  Then they cross-referenced that with payment records showing that the suspect purchased a specific kind of battery from Alibaba that was used in the bombs.  Following that, they began surveillance on the suspect (which I believe was assisted by his phone geolocation records) which led to a confrontation in which he was killed (unclear if it was from one of his bombs detonating, a self-inflicted suicide, or a police kill).  While it is, of course, good that the person that was bombing innocents is no longer doing so, the privacy implications of this are very serious.  Think of how many innocent people had their search histories gone through to hone on in that one suspect.

Is it worth it?  That's a tough call.  I do not want to trade liberty for security.  I also don't want innocent people killed.

What I do know is that centralized 'gatekeeper' platforms like Facebook, Google, Twitter, YouTube, etc., etc., are dangerous.  Just as centralized money is dangerous.  Just as centralized 'gatekeeper' news sources are dangerous.  I support next-generation decentralized platforms for social media that cannot be censored.  There are several out there, and several more in development.  My organization is crowdfunding one approach that aims to resolve a number of problems in the space.  What emerges from these will hopefully be services that cannot be censored due to their design.  Obscene and illegal content can be moderated without limiting free speech.  Privacy should be up to each user, with the defaults set on full lockdown.  A way to monetize it without ads that profile you, such as ethical ads, distributed computing, and/or subscription models, need to be developed so that people that produce great content can move off of platforms such as YouTube that can make them penniless by demonetizing their videos.  There's a lot of ideas to improve this.  They all start with decentralized networks, strong encryption, and build from there.  Not everything is ideal to store on a blockchain, but there is certain parts of such a solution that would be best done with a blockchain approach.  When our project begins incubation, it's going to reach out to several different other projects that are working on some of the problems (identity, advertising, distributed computing, and distributed storage projects).  These are the building blocks of next-generation microblogging (obsoleting Twitter/Gab), social networking (obsoleting Facebook/LinkedIn), image/video sharing (obsoleting Instagram and YouTube), messaging (obsoleting Messenger and Telegram), distributed search (obsoleting Google and Bing), and live streaming (obsoleting Periscope).

I am not a fan of social media.  I have it because of my business dealings and now BTRIC.  I would trust it more if I had more control over my own information, and I knew it couldn't be used to track and profile me.  I'll be much happier when these better platforms are the norm.

Best regards,
Ben

I know this has been already answered but i believe I can add something important

Q: Will bitcoin make me rich?
Beyond the fact that the supply of bitcoin is less than the dollars of even gold and market capitalizacion. I think is determined by in partly by government
. I mean recently FBI are taking account about holdlers of Bitcoin and they are connected with government and they have taxes... Besides this there is a fact, the world has changed and the conditions that made possible that Bitcoin reach $18000 has gone. I mean this fluctuation of Bitcoins has the origin in regulations that before doesnt existed before. So basically the future value of bitcoin rely in the amount of people that is going to invest. But what people?  Im  principally referring to Latin American market in those underdeveloped countries the regulations are more weaker thant  developed countries  so people can invest and expect gain something. And not only they it depends on people awareness about cryptocurrency around the world

I think I'll just try Smiley
Personally I joined this forum because it is open to communicate with each other and read knowledgeable things about crypto currency. With this forum we can exchange ideas about market speculations, what to stay away from and all opinions about gaining profits. The fun thing also about this forum is that you can also gain a passive income while being part of this community.

These are interesting airdrops for this week. See you in a week. Good luck!

And this one is another candidate post for merit:

Despite current fall on crypto and altcoins market there are still some ICOs which are potentially good for investments. I would recommend Kickcity, Open Collectors, Effect.AI, TrueGame as they have real working projects and solid advisors.

You can check some spreadsheets with ratings as well (DiddyCarter and another consolidated one).

Also have a look on some ico rating websites. My favorite is https://icobench.com/. It provides very flexible filter system, so you can choose ico which meets your own special criterias.

I posted this here because I know that there are many beginners here that will benefit from this post, and beginners and help section are full of topics about merits.

Are you still confused? depressed? losing hope?

Here's a very special and useful tip for you to gain some merits.
-This tip is DYOR or Do Your Own Research, if you are going to follow this tip you can use this for a long time.

Always look at this list of recent merits that sends by everyone:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=merit;stats=recent

In looking to some merited post that you agreed also that that post deserves a merit.
Try to think that why this posts deserve's a merit, also look at the last posts of that person...

Also this thing will help you to be updated to some event that gives merit to a good quality post, you will comment the link of your post that you think deserves a merit.
And dont hesitate to ask if your comment dont get merits, They will answer why your posts dont get merits and what is missing.
In that way you learned something from them and for sure in the next time you join you can get some merits and if still not try and try again until you get the meaning of High Quality Content.

What should I do to improve rank ?
write messages, leave comments, be here more time
This is not the right way to do it, you just encourage them to spam the forum and then eventually get banned.
You must make all of your post to be constructive, understandable, and useful dont just post make your self a good contribution to this community.
It is better to suggest them to read and study about cryptocurrency and the forum rules and regulations.
I suggest to all of you to read all those sticky thread because it can help you a lot, read and search before posting.

For the OP I want to help you to get some merits on your work if its your own original work try to post it here it is reasonable to be rewarded.

My fresh morning article

Quote
Previously I have written my opinion concerning bitcoin in Positive attitude of bitcoin

I have the same positive attitude about altcoins, seriously, contrary to popular opinion that 90% of altcoin is scam, that they are not necessary,  I've been thinking about how many there are "noname" or not so popular software in IT sphere?

I´m sure even we do our best, we could not name even 3% of total amount of software... There are a lot of highly specialized b2b soft, about which you did not hear. The same tendency could be with altcoins (it is clear that not here and now, but within 20 years...)
It is clear that we need to choose authoritative teams like binance, those who have an active github profile. Although easy money are leaving the market, new obstacles appear in the crypto industry for all its members, but also it comes the understanding that the crypto won´t die and everyone will be dealing with it. Everyone understands it, from devs with hamsters to whales with giant corporations (note how many centralized IT businesses invested in blockchain). And this niche is not filled yet, there is enough space for everyone, the margin is stunning, fun and dynamic - what else do we need for happiness?

Also think about the lately tremendous news: tweeter, facebook, istagram, Google, Yandex and others prohibit crypto advertising  - but the world does not work this way.... if people are interested in something or they need to talk somewhere, it is clear that will appear corresponding resources (yeah it´s possible that we will see crypto-analogies of facebook, twitter and etc.) And we will receive more ICO's, tokens, rat races and possibilities to make some profit.....but......they will never replace bitcoin!  And as you have understood, if the crypto is ignored by the old platforms, then obviously there will be new platforms, that will get a big piece of pie. And as you can guess, facebook is almost the state offices that supply a bunch of data about citizens. And if everyone runs to other platforms, then money will run after them, because the data is the most valuable thing in the world, and money is just a piece of paper and an intermediate link...............................Data is a new gold

I'm almost sure that now all the data bases with KYC are actively buying up, the forums are being monitored, a lot of information is being sucked out of social networks and so on. Anonymity is again in trend. Today people are buying everything to get deep into crypto, so think 5 times before you will show somewhere your passport data, because right here and right now, the nameplates are hung over the btc-eth-addresses. I won´t be surprised if  in next 5 years some "Edward Snowden" will public something like that.

As a result, the world changes, and old paradigms will be buried, crypto becomes a common thing and a niche that gives a job, like YouTube or Instagram. It's nice to realize that while everyone is running in panic through the streets and trying to understand what's going on, you're looking at it all from the side drinking your cup of coffee.
