What you mean by sentence "Marketing people" of the 3rd world countries do it.  Do you want to say scammers are only from 3rd World and cannot be from 1st World?  Are you mentally retarded or what?

I first thought I should report it to the Admin to request warn you or ban you first but rather I thought better talk first.  This was very much like RACISM.

Why are you actually against it ? can you elaborate ?

I have nothing against it. At the same time I have no idea can you use a registered trademark as a cryptocurrency abbreviation.
I know it's better to be safe than sorry with this kinda thing. But It's not my call anyway so it's really irrelevant what I think about it.

The onion is the symbol of the idea of tor network, so perhaps you're right that using it could be good but the graphic design must be fully original to Torcoin. Copying some brand and graphics is the most unprofessional thing you can do, really. "Marketing people" of the 3rd world countries do it. Torcoin in that boat, anyone?
Just saying what I've learned during my career of branding and marketing.

Your very first post and you're talking about getting someone else banned? There was absolutely nothing about his post that was racist. FACT: People from third world countries are hired to work at telemarketing call centers. What is racist about that? Are the owners and managers of said call centers also racists for hiring them?

i thought this is a good coin, by its name, but when I read through the thread, I found that the coin is not what is claimed... is it REALLY support TOR? can someone post his onion address used by the torcoin client? I found it is werid and confused, maybe dev can clarify, lmao.

I saw many other coins claim to be TOR and they are, as I can connect the client and see my IP displayed as .onion. Some examples are SweepstakeCoin (just launched), TransferCoin, bitcoinplus etc, to name a few.

I have just read through 48 pages of this thread, took me a couple of hours but it was rather interesting.
Things I noticed through the 48 pages are:

1. Too much FUD
I believe this coin has not deserved so much FUD
Torcoin has very fast transactions, it's anonymous, tor based, has a small supply and a sweet name
It didn't deserve this
Also Carsen poses absolutely no danger to the project, his funds are depleted

2. Trademark issues
There's no way Tor Project can "sue" a cryptocurrency
For fucks sake, people buy drugs with cryptocurrencies
There might be a very slim chance they sue OP, if they reveal his identity
I believe the name shouldn't be changed, as stated before Tor Project does not posess a monopoly on the word 'Tor'
On the other hand I believe the logo should be altered. We're using a clear copy of the Tor Project logotype.
I believe we still need to use an onion as the logo, just a different onion Smiley

I'd also add I have applied for the position of signature manager, and if it's still needed I'd like to make a translation for the Croatian section.

All good point.  I have asked the designer to tweak the onion logo a bit.  It will still be an onion, just a different onion :-)

You're wrong.  "TOR" was trademarked since 2008.  http://tmsearch.uspto.gov/bin/showfield?f=doc&state=4810:no622r.2.46

"TOR" is not used as brand or marketing name here. "Torcoin" is. And "Torcoin" is not a registered trademark.
Perhaps it would be good to change the abbreviation to TRC or TCN something.. I don't see a clear benefit for using "TOR". Why keep it?

However, using that exact onion graphic by Tor Project is violating copyright law. In fact the onion should be removed from the branding alltogether. Again, where is the remarkable benefit from using the onion? It's just pissing off the Tor Project people. It's a really stupid move and for what? Nothing!

A good product needs a good brand. Cheap copycats are doomed to lose. TORCOIN should start deciding which party it belongs to.

Try to understand the logic mate, there are more than 100+ coins which have the abbreviation which comes down to a registered company or name, TorCoin is basically supporting tor browser and everything and there is nothing wrong in doing that.
There are more than 1 billion apps based on FB and not always you need to collaborate with companies to appreciate and build on that.

Using the onion again means that they are just appreciating the actual tor and there is nothing wrong.

Added to all these, as you ask benefits. TOR is a simple to remember name, and being tor already known to a lot of people it gives healthy pillars for the coin. Plus as you are talking about copycats, mate check the market volume for TOR and you will see the worth and respect.

Why are you actually against it ? can you elaborate ?

hey folks, I am currently offering a bounty of 1000 TOR for a web designer to greatly improve the TorCoin.org website and make it more appealing.  Submit your MOCKUP to [email protected] and if I like the mockup, I will hire you for it.
What happened I though you are not allowed to use the Tor name?

There is nothing wrong with using the TOR name - the word 'TOR' is a dictionary word, and you cannot trademark a dictionary word:
http://www.dictionary.com/browse/tor

The onion logo may be changed in the future just slightly, but that's about it.
