So all my coins went to stake right about the time this for happened.  They're no longer in the wallet and didn't come back when i re-opened for minting, are they gone for good?

If those coins were coming from blocks with height number higher than the one that we restarted ( a few hours after the incident happened ), then yes, they are lost, as they were never meant to be created in the manner they did.

No, my original coins which were mined at launch, are gone.

Edit: For clarity, i mined 19 blocks at launch.  This was the last one

Are you sure that you didn't delete the wallet.dat from your folder?
If you did that, then you have a new wallet address and unless you kept a backup of the old file, you destroyed your coins yourself.
Otherwise, you can wait for the block explorer to come back online and check the existance of the transactions id yourself.

100% positive the wallet is intact.  Have multiple backups as well.  Before i was aware of the incident i noticed my wallet re-locked.  I re-opened it for minting and the coins immidiately
drained out and started posting as stake.  Wasn't sure this was normal so came here to look.. and saw mention of the problems.

I don't know how the process works, so i'm not sure exactly what happened.  If the coins ( the originals that is ) are gone, well, it sucks but such is life.  If it's possible to retrieve them i'd like to try to do so.  Just not sure how to go about it.

Edit: for clarity

It is released, or do they only tested?
Release.  We tested it earlier today and it looked good on both ends and everything behaved as expected.

Be sure to follow the instructions to redownload the blockchain.

I am going to keep the block explorer site down for a day or so to give that node some more capacity to get everyone up and running.  I'll resync it and bring it back up tomorrow night.

VERSION UPDATE 0.8.9.9 INSTRUCTIONS

To resolve the issues we have been experiencing you will need to run the latest wallet version 0.8.9.9 and follow these instructions to ensure you are on the correct chain.  This update backs out the Kimoto Gravity Well.  At some point in the future maybe I will re-examine bringing it back in, but at this point there are too many issues with it to easily resolve in a reasonable period of time.

1. Find your blockchain files in the Version data directory (C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Roaming\Version on Windows 7/8.1, ~/.version on Linux)

2. Back them up into another location

3. Edit your version.conf file or create it if it doesn't exist an ensure this line is in the file:

Code:
connect=192.241.240.148

4. Download the latest wallet:

Windows Wallet 0.8.9.9:
https://mega.co.nz/#!cBMX0axJ!JpE5F5dpXwrLJXd4VTQVr1GRIDGsRfyFngg8S4_L_Ts

5. Run it once, and allow it to redownload the block chain.

6. Close the wallet, remove the connect= line from version.conf.

7. Open the Wallet and you are back in business!

The block target time will slow from 20s to 60s.  This will help alleviate some of the issues we've been seeing.

The correct chain is 56,461 blocks in height as of this post.

Yes there will be an update soon.  I am testing a fix now.

The mining was left up so we could apply hashpower to test various scenarios.

When the fix is in place, you will need to redownload the blockchain as described in the last attempt at a fix, and your chain will restart from the pre-gazillion-forks block height.

I have implemented a more permanent fix, and then we can re-examine KGW at a later point.

The only official mining that is taking place is only on zeuspool.com and is for testing purposes only.

Does that mean blocks mined on zues right now will end up being legit?
Can something that is meant for testing considered to be permanent?

Official is meant as: the only known to the coin developer mining, is taking place on zeus. This happens so we can see the behavior of the algorithms. I hope this makes it clear enough for everyone.

edit to clarify

That's what I figured but just checking  Tongue

To devs. Please cancel all mined blocks from 40, 41, 42k's when ever first fork formed, make us all happy miners again. (I'll get some lost too)
+1

Please read the previous posts carefully. The network is at a stop right now.
The fact that somebody can start his wallet and begin mining doesn't mean that it is anything official.
You can also start your wallet, start mining, get a friend or two also to connect their wallets to your wallet and let them mine too and you'll have yourself a whole load of blocks. What does that mean?
Nothing at all Smiley

I can understand that not all are familiar with how a blockchain works, but before you start making assumptions (or even accusations) try to understand what is happening.

The fact that some miners keeps mining in some of the forks that are laying around the network and you happen to be in one of these and you see the blocks going up, doesn't mean that it is going to stay that way.

Don't panic just because you see blocks here and there...

At 90889 blocks Wallet out off sync .And now you calculate how much coins is that.I think that is crap.
Thanks for understanding

Sebalino, please hold your posts a little.
You keep posting even though you have answers either from posts in this thread or even in PMs

Your 90k+ blocks means nothing. They do not exist. I do not know what other words I need to use since English is not my native, but please, don't create fuzz about something that is not real.

Thank you for understanding Smiley
