This would mean I can Stake coins only for about a week and than I would have to transfer them to be able to stake again? 10.000+ Confirmation are reached in a week or so, not? Huh

If they "stake" then they get reset, as they are "removed" from your wallet till they get 520 conformations then returned,
So as long as they keep staking you don't need to worry.
It's if they have not staked in a while, then you'll have to "reset" them to be able to stake.

Thats great to hear!! this give HODL a totally new Meaning.  Grin Grin Grin

Having both mPOS & CPU-mining is most attractive feature of this crypto.  Wink Wink

Do fully agree.
Just hoping these issues will be solved soon. Otherwise return to previous version with some small adjustments.
Why not make ruling for 5 PoS block and 1 PoW block, and set time diff not more then 2 minutes iso the 5 now?

I started mining magi to learn about cryptocurrencies, and it was nice to find what was supposed to be a cpu only mineable currency.

I never expected to make money at this, but now it's ridiculous with all the orphan blocks.

I don't exactly understand what is going on, but what I have learned from this experience is that it looks like the cryptocurrency world is a bit of a bad joke.

And I don't see where anyone in charge is commenting or actually reacting to this.

I think it's time to stop making cpu heat for absolutely no apparent reason.

The cryptocurrency world is rather vast. XMG is, no matter what you think of it, not representative of the whole, it's a small project with a specific aim. Not saying you should keep going or not, but to assume the entire landscape looks like this is like being cheated on by a woman and assuming all women are untrustworthy...

Fair comment.

I intend on continuing to play with this, mostly because it continues to be a learning experience, and it is also giving me an excuse to play with my raspberry pi's.  Do you have any suggestions for other coins that would produce at least some results with CPU only?  I live in a country with relatively high energy rates, and I pay for my electricity, so ASIC or gpu mining is out of the question.

Dev is gone so Magi is helpless.
No he's not.
Stop spreading this kinda msgs, just because things not fixed within the time you want it to...

When these kinds of things have happened in the past and the Dev was on top of it, it seems like the Dev has lost hope in the project, or he's just lost interest. For a decentralized crytocurrency (emphasis on the currency, as in money), we need an active developer to zap problems as soon as they pop up. The absence of the dev proves two things:

(1): Not enough people are looking at the source code to patch issues like this as soon as they happen (a big problem with proprietary software for obvious reasons)
(2): The developer doesn't care enough to keep a close eye on his projects, which will ultimately lead to the death of the MagiCoin

Call me what you will, but its stopped being profitable for me to mine this coin, and like I'm sure many other people will, I'll be moving my miners over to something like Monero. At least they're on top of their game.

This is untrue.  I told him i was going to spend some time studying to help him.  I have done so.

I am just catching up after 6 months of intensive crypto blockchain engineer live situation training as practice to building coins from the ground up etc.

I am ready to aid.

What seems to be the problem, Joe?  PM me if you wish help.  Explain the nature of the problem and which file you think the issue is coming from and i can pop the ol' hood and take a look at what's going on and perhaps find a solution.

Feel free to contact me any time but the email that is best will be given to you on request in PM.

@chronosphere: were you PM'ed ? Do you need help? CAN I help in any way?
@ALL: can someone give me an hint how I can identify an attack, false Blocks, or other weird stuff? I would like to help, but am pretty new to this crypto stuff. Roll Eyes

I started for the same reason, AND I understand completely, BUT noticed that in the "orphan-blocks-period", I'm not generating/receiving any coins, nevertheless after the "bot-net"/or what ever SPAM, the difficulty is pretty LOW and the rewards are "higher" again, so that in the time until the next "ATTACK", the gained rewards surpass the gains you would have normally made, even accounting for the orphan-time. I known this is not ideal, but until its fixed / blocked / stopped it is a silver lining.

btw.: if there are some dev's out there maybe we/they could create a pull request with a fix to help out the team, just in the spirit of other opensource projects.

I updated to latest wallet and got it going. Is it worth staking? From what I read there are lots of issues at the moment. I like this coin, got my interest in 2015 and I mined it till last year. I have a fair bit of coins and not interested to dump so I am keen staking if it's worth. I encrypted the wallet but can't stake as it says I don't have enough weight. I have over 6000 xmg in it. Thought minimum to stake is 100 coins?

Weight is to do with the number of confirmations a block of coins has:
Roughly:
0-519           Conformations = Low weight not enough for staking
520-9,999    Ideal staking range
10,000+      To old to stake

To reset the Weight/conformations just send them to yourself, then wait a day or so and you'll start "staking".

This would mean I can Stake coins only for about a week and than I would have to transfer them to be able to stake again? 10.000+ Confirmation are reached in a week or so, not? Huh

all of this was talked about a few months ago and they (the devs) done nothing since then and all they went on on about if they made the changes we were asking for it would not make it decentralized anymore, etc.
Basically we were told to shut up and be patient the big fish/botnets will stop soon.

Sorry to say that soon was almost 4 months ago

Crazy idea, but please hear me out:
Network-mandated hashrate limit

I know that some people would say "You could just work around that by creating a new wallet", but to that, I say "IP wallet limit". Sure, you could just use a VPN to get around that, but it's an extra step that I feel most people wouldn't feel like doing. It could even be programmed into the network to orphan blocks from known Tor exit nodes and VPNs. Yeah, it'd stop people in censored countries like China and Russia from accessing the blockchain, but it'd protect the majority of the network from these damned orphan blocks from botnets hiding behind a VPN or Tor exit node.

hello,

plaese joe change the algo a bit so all the non CPU miners are fucked.

gr xms

What exactly do you mean? is there a way to mine xmg with gpu or so? And if so how?

There has been rumour of it - I didn't see anybody sharing or selling XMG GPU code until now

its no rumour, unfortionly

how can you tell that someone is mining with GPU and not with CPU? I did I quick internet search but  could find anything usable. I could try to merge two projects and try to build an GPU miner that might work on XMG, but nothing "finished" and ready to use.

hello,

if you see a very big fish .....
then they mine with fpga or gpu

i dont want to say names but they know they are here so plaese joelao95 change the alge just a little bit just like they dit with XMR.
now there is a asic for ETH everybody know what this means
keep XMG asic fpga and gpu proof keep it fair, i'm here from the beginning and i stil believe in this coin.

Sad to hear - then would be good to spice the algo, if possible to get everybody on a level playing field again =)
