I am currently working full-time this summer developing for Auroracoin and actively building a community here in Iceland.

I apologies for not providing any updates from me or others here in Iceland. To be honest, I was really worn out after the sudden crazy media attention here in Iceland, my trip to CFR in New York, and all while learning the ins and outs of the protocol for development. I was also a little afraid of keeping up the hype along with the inflated price from speculators and didn't want to bring any false hope if I were to fail in my mission.

That being said, things are going along quite well right now. I have gathered a good group of highly interested individuals and we are in the last phase of starting a real organization to represent the blockchain technology here in Iceland as well as supporting Auroracoin officially. Tomorrow, a public preparation meeting will be held and then we are good to go.
KBS, "South Korea’s leading public broadcaster, the largest television network, and the most influential media organization in the
country" is also arriving tomorrow. They will attend the meeting and interview people for their documentary on Auroracoin.

Baldur told me some time ago that he (the pseudonym Baldur) would like to gradually step away from the project so he wont be seen as the leader, and suggested that I could maybe start a foundation for Auroracoin. After some thought, I decided to go for an umbrella organization for the technology instead of just an Auroracoin foundation as I think it will unite a lot of interested individuals here in Iceland to support cryptocurrencies in general.

Although, Auroracoin support will need to be a major focus. Due to capital controls, no one is able to wire money out of the country e.g. to Bitstamp. So the average person here in Iceland is actually not able to buy Bitcoins or any other cryptocurrency for that mater in large quantities, except Auroracoin. With just a few clicks, the average person can get a relatively large share of Auroracoin, so it is obvious that the organization should do everything to keep Auroracoin up and running and act as a foundation as well.

Regarding development; I have completed updating the Auroracoin source to the latest Bitcoin 0.9, and just have to finish getting every single test to pass. Next I will move on to porting bitcoinjs to Auroracoin. I also want to port libbitcoin and setup an obelisk server so we can have "darkwallet" as the go-to wallet for the average person.

The fall of auroracoin could be predicted in my mind and that's why I did not buy it when it was that expensive (1/4 of bitcoin market cap for a 300.000 inhabitants...) even if I loved the project.
At the top 1 coin had a value of 100$, so imagine people who had never heard about cryptocurrencies and have suddenly 38 coins so 3800$ in their hands, they just want to convert it into fiat immediately then the price can only crash...

So now there is cheap coin but the project is still interesting, the only problem is to know if devellopers are still in or if they gave up on the coin?
Is there a community in Iceland still involved in the project ? Is balduro still active?
Is there any projects in Iceland to promote the coin like 20% discount for a beer bought in auroracoin in some bars?

I have been in Iceland for 2 weeks and I do like this country, I think this is the country where cryptocurrency could replace fiat for the 1st time.

If there is still a community there please try to show that you are still active.

this coin is lacking promotion and leadership right now and that's killing the price. things need to happen, news and stories to be told. moves must be busted Smiley

There have been some demand for aurora last couple of days. Maybe someone gets interested. Indeed there is huge upside potential. But, I think, the Icelandic people have to do the job now. What this coin needs is a group of Icelandic people that are going to work on a plan how to get AURORA used in daily business in Iceland.

screw price.

this coin needs adoption. It has another chance (2nd round of airdrop in 6 weeks). I'm pretty sure there wont be such crazy hype and insane price rise as last time, so Icelanders wont be as tempted to sell.

Also this time we have android wallet ready. We also have https://litepaid.com easy merchant app:

What we still need (lack?) of course is a sizable community in Iceland.

Anyone from Iceland here who can assess the situation?

As most of the pools in the OP are dead i guess it doesn't help the coin if the only pool going is the one that switches to it only when it's profitable...

Our pool is still online with a nominal 0.25% fee so get yourself some coins and keep the network going!!

I'll get myself some for longterm-holding.

That is the only good reason to buy right now! If early adopters of Bitcoin were as impatient as most people are around good alt coins now, it would still be play money atm...

why did the coin exactly fail? Did it fail? For what reason? I can't see it. Can someone point out to me? Good to buy? Why not?

Hi Gustav,

The coin did not fail, it just got extremely overpriced due to greedy speculants. This resulted in a dramatic free fall when it got panic dumped.
Right now a team of local and foreign supporters are slowly developing the reboot of the coin. The way I see it, it's just at its beginning now (where it should have been two months ago...

Cheers,

LTEX

that's what i thought. it went way too high in the beginning but should have found a bottom now. If in fact they are still working on adoption it'll be a good buy here i guess. lol, yeah, speculators. thanks for the answer. I'll get myself some for longterm-holding.

Hi guys,

I've been away for a while due to personal reasons. Being a strong supporter of this coin I just want to say that it is my believe we are just at the beginning of things, not at the end as some of you say.

Sure, the coin "dropped like hell" and has very little trading volume. There are also a lot of people holding bags after the plummet of it's price and are therefor understandably sad or even angy. Hell, I might just be one of the largest bag holders!

But I'm not behind this coin, as of it's beginning, because I wanted to make a short term profit. I support it for it's prophecy to get an entire country behind the use of cryptocurrency. To me the choice of Balduro to pick Iceland for this project was what got me behind it and is still keeping me behind it!

To me, the most important reason Auroracoin has not yet stabilized after the storm is due to the fact that somehow the community hasn't taken up it's responsibility yet. I strongly believe that Auroracoin will become a great success, once we get enough people supporting it for the right reasons. Those reasons do not include short term profitability, but must be about making a difference. Not only to the Icelandic community, but also in the Crypto landscape.

I also believe this is the reason why we don't hear to much from Balduro at this time. From the very beginning he has made it perfectly clear that his role is to bring foreword the idea and lay the foundation. That segment is past us now, so it's up to us to finish what he has started! For now he has done more than enough to prove to us that he is legit and fair. The airdrop is a great success en turned out even better than I could have anticipated!

So, is Auroracoin really at the end of it's lifespan? No!!, it actually is just at the beginning! We just need to start acting upon it instead of waiting and complaining about how Balduro is not there to generate our short term profit all by himself!

Glad to see that you didn't change yous stance on the coin.
You're one of the guys I feel sorry for with the coin failing in the early stage. You have to admit it was a failure.

What the future brings , that I can't see but I will still be pessimistic about the outcome.

Let me just say that you're a bit too optimistic and a bit of an idealist. Not that is something wrong with it , but wright now the people with money and sharks are ruling the crypto scene , it's not 2010 anymore.

Hi Niothor,

Thanks for your kind words, but no need to feel sorry for me though Smiley Even if this coin fails to succeed it has treated me well so far.

And yes, I am an Idealist, that is the reason I keep supporting this initiative. I have big interests in the succession of crypto in general and therefor am keen on supporting projects that, IMO, can make a difference. To me, Auroracoin still is one of the most promising ones, even though there are many things that need to be improved and picked up.

And hey, you're right about it not being 2010 anymore, but wasn't that the time were even bitcoin was less promising than Auroracoin is now? I for one don't mind the sharks have moved to different ponds. It returns the calm back to us to continue to build a nice surrounding for Dolphins that can keep the sharks out once they see the other ponds dried out  Wink

You know what, there will even be room for polar bears  Grin

See the difference between PHCoin and AURORACoin is that PHCoin is NOT ACTING LIKE A GOD DAMN 'COIN' they are NOT EVEN worried about getting it on an exchange
which AUR was easily on exchanges ready for those high waves of pumps and dumps.

This is a big deal because when you see a currency with a 50% premine not going after an exchange, and Authority: Mike Scofield
he mentions to not worry about exchanges and this is the best thing for any new crypto currency. It doesn't need an exchange right away.

It's better to be holding onto them until PHCoin sees a huge demand in the market, this to me seems like the only country coin that will NOT FAIL.
An exchange will come soon for all new coins, but when the devs are not actively pushing the exchange market, this shows me they got bigger things up their sleeves.

So yes, I just compared PHC to AUR...

If I had a decision to make to mine PHC or AUR .. I'd pick PHC.
If I had a decision to make to buy PHC or AUR, I'd buy PHC.

The end.

- Sam 'Mother Fuckin' Walters.

And in the end you come here to promote your pathetic little clone..
This is so lame you aurora gains the upper hand in this fight.

Are you for real?? What community? The 'community' bid up the price ahead of the airdrop and then waited for good news about some kind of application or use within Iceland. None of this news was forthcoming. A community within Iceland itself would be able to build on this foundation as you put it, yet I can't see that anyone like that has stepped forward with that intention. Because of that, it isn't even clear that we can trust Balduro's statistics about the airdrop. So what is it you think we can do exactly??

I hear you and understand what you mean. But as I tried to explain many times in this forum, to me and many others, this is not about short term profit. If it was, then yes, you might be right. The question to me is, why is everyone in Crypto so inpatient? New ways and standards don't come falling out of the sky, they are slowly build by persistent groups who believe in the benefits change can bring.

There is a large group like this based within Iceland and it's supported by serious foreigners like myself. We know this is not going to prove itself within a couple of months, it will take years.

The up bidding of the price you mention, was not done by this group, it was done by greedy investors that were afraid to mis out. Almost all the early supporters behind this project would have liked to see the price not going over $ 5,- in the first year. The fact this did happen anyway only damaged the steadiness of it's launch.

So, I am for real when I say I truly believe this coin is only at it's start. For sure I also look at other initiatives and can tell you I've done pretty well on other coins financially, but also these coins were dumped as soon as the sheep follow the herds to the next coin. What remains is those coins that can really make a difference based upon their prophecy. It this case, to me AUR is still the one that has the highest potential of becoming widely accepted by an entire community/country. Just look at the initial idea, 330.000 people in a country that is perfect to implement crypto. That is what I think it will work in the end (Will take years, but will get there sooner than others!)

So, if you follow this coin to make a quick buck anticipating it will skyrocket soon, stop it! If you follow it to see if it will succeed in becoming the first to be adopted by an entire nation, you're welcome!

Right now , why should icelanders use auroracoin and not bitcoin?

It makes no sense , other than expecting larger gains.

To me it does make sense. Of course Bitcoin is the best choice when it comes to steadiness and structure, but people also tend to chose a coin they can relate to. For what I've seen so far, Icelanders are proud people and have a strong sense of independence.

Also AUR is something they already relate daily spending to as it was a standard short code for their cent, back when the Krona wasn't devaluated as it is now. It's something they can call their own.

For arguments sake, People in the US would be wiser to change their dollars for Euro's right now and start trading with that. Somehow I think the majority however will chose to keep their dollar.

With lots of coins being already in the hands of foreign traders , i honesty doubt they can call this coin their own.
It;'s the same with every nation coin. There is too litle "nation" in it.
