Block rewards is ~14 BIS, fees are ~0.5 BIS 
I would have asked if someone want to send me 1 BIS for playing around and having the good feeling to be part of it but with that amount of fees I'm not sure if someone really wants to send me one.
Getting one via mining with with a single 8 core CPU is nearly impossible.
Are the big miners selling / is someone doing escrow?

Yes, it is hard to mine one block with a single cpu.
Anyway, the dev is thinking about a pool.

it is not easier than what you think. Some guys rent powerful vps for mining. It is hard to mine something with normal machine now.

Looks like You were not fully sync'd so you mined those coin on your own fork. Once the node sync'd to correct chain those coins you mined on your fork disappeared. Make sure you are fully sync'd before starting miner. Should have more than 1 connection. Use one of the explorers to compare block height.

seems pretty damn stable now been synced and mining 6 threads on an i7 7700k for just over an hour no blocks but no problems either
theres some good progress here very promising, wish I'd got more than 7 blocks at launch looks like its gonna be nails to get blocks now
