I voted yes for the dashwhale budget, it didn't pass, I though it was sad because I though it was helping dash in it's globality.

I voted yes for daily decrypt sponsor, and I understand well your points tok. But, It's not a big amount, and I think this can show what can be done "outside the dash sphere", and maybe give idea to other third party, of how to use budget system. We need to have exposure even if it seems tiny.

We can't aggree on all vote results.

I'm wondering why this isn't being funded via the promotional budget.
+1
the so called promotional campaign has been imposed in an arrogant manner
dash has been neglecting valuable community contributions, constantly losing important community people along the way

I think investors want advertising

Ok. I don't disagree.

All I'm saying is that blockchain funding is serious and ideally should not be spent without:

(a) pre-emptive intent (i.e. the voting power already allocated a budget commensurate with its priorities)
(b) measured returns

For example. Dash is getting criticism for InstantX being "breakable". Even I bought this for a while, but now I realise that 0-conf is infinitely more "breakable" than InstantX and Peter Todd has never acknowledged the comparison. Isn't this a far more relevant line of promotion than throwing money at publicity ?

In my opinion the best approach is to vote no to everything unless the returns are absolutely crystal clear.

... I would want to advertise with one of the more mainstream, non crypto channels. I really think that the alt community just cannibalizes itself and competes for the same $. We need to bring in new people as well and stand on our own, and exposing ourselves to outside audiences would be more productive than with the DailyDecrypt...

You are correct.  Look at the view counts.

Come on folks.

Tok, I'm not disagreeing with you. My degree is in business as well, and without any metrics on an advertising campaign, we have no way to evaluate effectiveness. But that's not the argument that
I'm making. I think investors want advertising, at least at a level more than we are currently doing.

We need a DASH community advertising group, who can argue and discuss the various advertising avenues, and put forward proposals that would be much more effective and based on real data than some small youtube crypto channel. If I were involved in this group, and the YouTube method was chosen, I would want to advertise with one of the more mainstream, non crypto channels. I really think that the alt community just cannibalizes itself and competes for the same $. We need to bring in new people as well and stand on our own, and exposing ourselves to outside audiences would be more productive than with the DailyDecrypt.

Sorry for rambling, I may have had too much eggnog this evening!

tok - excellent points.

I can't believe that people want to spend blockchain funds on a youtube blogger that has a couple of hundred views.  Come on people, we can do better than this.

TheDailyDecrypt mentions a successful proposal they submitted to the Dash network. Another win for Decentralized Governance by Blockchain (DGBB).

Obviously the majority of the voting investors in DASH think that advertising is a higher priority.

Well, ok but here's two things:

[1] - how do you know that they think that advertising is a "higher priority" ?

[2] - if the Dash blockchain invests in advertising, how are you going to measure the return ?

How will you know if the money was well spent or badly spent ? Did you research performance with other clients ?

If there's no prior research nor metric for returns then the money shouldn't be spent at all, that's all I'm saying.

Dashwhale was a strategic spend - it was a no brainer because there was no GUI for voting, masternode monitoring or any of the 2nd tier functions of this network. Yet nobody wanted to fund it.

Now your saying you want to throw money at a Youtube blogger instead ?

IMO, blockchain funding needs to be much more highly valued by its spenders and needs to go to priority tasks - like:

(A) - realising Evan's recent statement re. default anonymity of wallet balances
(B) - marketing InstantX against 0-conf as being far more secure in that market

Spend it on things that matter and that have a measurable return for the blockchain IMO.

Actually, it sounds like it's working exactly as it should.

If you could explain why I'd be more at ease.

I made the point that Dashwhale had invested a huge amount of effort on Dash's behalf and DailyDecrypt hadn't invested any.  How does that qualify DailyDecrypt for blockchain funding and Dashwhale not ?

Are Youtube bloggers suddenly a strategic interest of Dash or what ?

You're right, Dashwhale has invested significantly, and arguably way more than the DailyDecrypt will with this advertising funding.  But that isn't the question here. If this was a dictatorship and I was at the helm, it would not be going this way. BUT, the governance model we have is decentralized voting, and therefore, people don't have to agree. Obviously the majority of the voting investors in DASH think that advertising is a higher priority.

I think the real question is, "why"? I doubt its because investors are tempted by a pretty face. My guess is that investors want more advertising, and I think ANY advertising proposal that was even a bit reasonable would pass without issue. I really think we need an advertising budget that is transparent and aggressive, and voting on individual advertising campaigns (similar to this DailyDecrypt proposal) is a good way to do it, we just need more options to choose from.

Dash gets reported on all over the place. From CryptocoinNews to MaxKeiser. It gets reported on by independent media because something's happening - not because it pays independent media to promote it.

Blockchain funding is serious money and needs to be used for long term, well planned, strategic objectives which can be judged on by their results. If Dash is going to do a media campaign then let it be originated and contracted by the community with proper objectives, not by the contractors.

DailyDecrypt is a great show - but Dash isn't trying to win a popularity contest. It either works or doesn't for what it's trying to do. If the Dashwhale proposal hadn't been to strongly opposed I'd probably be more amenable to this request for funding, but since Dashwhale got rejected - no way. Go back and check the posts - people were quite highly principled about it.

Check yourselves out. If DailyDecrypt gets blockchain funding and Dashwhale doesn't, this governance policy is dead in the water.

Im not in love with the DailyDecrypt funding, but that's a pretty absurd statement. People are allowed to vote however they choose, and just because you and I don't agree with it does not mean that decentralized governance is a failure.

Actually, it sounds like it's working exactly as it should.

How come DailyDecrypt is a dead cert for blockchain funding and Dashwhale doesn't get a look in when Dashwhale invested a huge amount of unfunded technical effort exclusively on Dash's behalf and DailDecrypt didn't invest any ?

Pretty face ?

LoL. I spot an attack vector.

Stand tall.

It's a mountain that we're climbing, not a sandpit. If the blockchain doesn't think it needs Dashwhale then it sure as f*ck doesn't need DailyDecrypt.

Great! Hope DailyDecrypt will become the good example-direction for other mass media how to join the "DASH party"!  Roll Eyes
And we will see good competition for Dash promotional budget and reasonable prices and special (exclusively for Dash) promo-options.

For everybody who wants to access dashtalk (to make backups, to see your private messages and so on) but don’t know how to do it - it is still possible to enter forum and even your personal account directly on server (without domain dashtalk.org) :

you have to locate file «hosts» in your OS and add this line into hosts file:

85.159.209.13 dashtalk.org

path to hosts file is:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hosts_(file)

Thanks. So few people on that website right now... I wonder why...
