AdamWhite suggests that a single bitcoin confirmation takes about ten minutes, and that since the likelihood of a blockchain reorg is so low, for all practical purposes bitcoin transactions take only ten minutes to confirm.

I accept that. But I'm pretty sure that four seconds beats ten minutes any day of the week. Cheers AdamWhite!

And don't forget this 10 minutes are average! You can be unlucky and have to wait 30-60 mins for one confirmation.

Well have a look at the blocks 74637 -> 74638 even ~7 hours are possible.
Quote
Also no surprise "pille" didn't mention you can be lucky instead and wait 1 or 2 minutes  Roll Eyes

I accept that too.

1% chance of my Bitcoin transaction confirming in 1-2 minutes.
100% chance of my Dash transaction confirming in 4 seconds.

Which one do I choose? Hmm...

There's something everyone missing. When a ReOrg happens in the blockchain and it enables a double-spend to overwrite a unconfirmed/confirmed transaction, it's because an attack happened. There's 2 types of attacks:

1.) Unconfirmed Double-spend : Propagate two transactions at once from separate edges of the graph. In this case, you need to wait for much more than 1 confirmation to know which transaction the network is going to take.

2.) Confirmed Transaction Double-spend : Get some mining equipment, then mine a transaction with input X to pay yourself. When you solve a block, initiate the payment you want to make on the network also using input X, but paying some victim merchant. After they accept your transaction and it's also accepted into a block, release your block and cause a fork. Which way is the network going to go? Who knows.

Both of these are intentional, there isn't a probability involved at all. When the attacker does it, there's a situation where you don't know what's going to happen in the future. This is what IX solves, the uncertainty. Both also have something is common, Bitcoin is vulnerable to them and IX is not. Digital currency should work like cash. Once you transfer value, it shouldn't be able to be undone. It takes about 60 minutes for something to be considered solid and not reversible on the Bitcoin network. That's why 6-confirmations is a standard on their network and ours gets the same amount of security in 1-4 seconds.

An exchange would consider it "safe" since the funds are in their control, presumably trading for other assets on their site.  Quite different than the real world.  Would you sell your car to somebody and watch them drive off with only 1 confirmation?

-----------------------

I know I'm going to hell for quoting this troll, but I think the 4 seconds vs. 1 hour comparison is worth repeating.

Nah, just purgatory ;P  But the thing is, IX = 5 confirmations, the 6th is an actual block.  So in 2.5 minutes average, your transaction is considered fully confirmed.  With Bitcoin, that does take an average of 1 hour.

The main thing lacking in Dash for me is that sites like TradingView and BitcoinWisdom don't have a Dash feed. Where do you do Technical Analysis of Dash? Do i have to print screen a chart and draw trend lines with an arts package ?

We just added Poloniex's DASH/BTC market to our real-time charting service: https://cryptowat.ch/poloniex/dashbtc

We will add more DASH markets if there's demand.
]

Sure there is demand.

Please put more DASH markets Wink

Please put this slightly retarded dashcurrex and cryptsy

Works well for me. You had some problems with dashcurex?

I do, just wanted to withdraw bitcoin and its locked for 48 hours! and this constant switching between dash and bitcurex. Mainly switching, i personally find it incredibly annoying. I know for many people that is not a problem, but for me its like mosquito buzzing by the ear...
On the contrary, it has a highest price right now for DASH... Its a good concept to have DASH only exchange, but it should work properly, not in a slightly retarded way...

they had a glitch (some Bug)
everything is fixed now again

"Bug is fixed, now all your transfers between Dashcurex and Bitcurex will be treated as internal transfers, please give it a try. Sorry for the problem!"

6 confirmations is considered standard by who?

Like i said, the biggest alt exchange Poloniex only needs a SINGLE Bitcoin confirmation before giving you full access to your funds  Roll Eyes

This is great! What are the benefits of registering an account with your service?

You're able to import your API keys from various exchanges to visualize your trades & orders in real-time. You can also pay for a trading account, which gives you access to a trading interface that works with the exchanges.

These features don't support Poloniex yet but they will soon. Currently they support Bitfinex, Bitstamp, BTC-e, and Kraken.

That's comparing apples and oranges.  A SINGLE BTC confirmation can take 10 minutes.  The standard 6 confirmations, which is considered safe can take an hour.  Instantx transactions are considered "safe from double spend" in seconds.

Goodness gracious you're a narky argumentative prick Adam!

Poloniex is one of the only exchanges that will allow a single BTC confirmation. Everywhere else is 3 to 6 confirms and it REGULARLY takes 30 min+ to get access to your BTC.

That's THE WHOLE POINT YOU PATHETIC DICK HEAD!

BTC has VERY slow confirmation times by comparison to Dash. Yes, sometimes you can get access to your transferred BTC in 10 minutes but mostly that's the exception instead of the rule. My experience is 30 minutes is about the minimum but 45 to 75 minutes is typical.

Why don't you take your shitty negativity and stick it where the sun don't shine! (i.e. FUCK RIGHT OFF BACK TO YOUR CAVE!)

You failed to understand the point. The mid-level GhostPlayer shill along with every single Xcoin/Darkcoin/Dash/Otohcoin core team member are constantly misrepresenting the facts in an effort to scam people into buy-buy-buying!

No surprise that you dashtards are now Lie defending as well as Scam defending. Also no surprise "pille" didn't mention you can be lucky instead and wait 1 or 2 minutes  Roll Eyes

Lol but I don't want to be "lucky" when paying. In this situation the worst case is deciding. Worst case is few seconds vs hours. (sry for quoting a known troll, I won't do it again.)

If you add a new withdrawal address it will take 48h before you can use it. Nobody is going to withdraw your coins if they hack your account. You will have 48h to react Smiley I hope they will add InstantX deposits soon.
