I agree, if we're re-branding then lets re-brand and not drag along the old image/styles etc. The reason to re-brand is to get away from the name Darkcoin and the dark image/reputation associated with it.

We should not have any ties to the Darkcoin name and that includes Logo's and other images as it will simply confuse things.

I know people are emotionally attached to the Darkcoin D (logo) but please let's not do a half hearted re-brand because people are having their heartstrings tugged.

I dont agree. But then again I'm no expert, and every time I've had to deal with designers, I end up loosing the argument, 90% thankfully.
I posted this yesterday on DCT, mind sharing your thoughts?

Like crypto's defy all known logic in classic finances, I propose a very slight defiance to the classic rebranding philosophy. Lets keep the wonderful logo and call it DASH or whaver. Every other single aspect of the rebrand (forum, main website, twitter, email accounts, foundation, facebook, etc etc oh yeah, and the code for release too!) follows the professional advice of said PR company.

DASH, Ding-Dong, whatever, hopefully starting with D for my idea of course...

That would

a) Keep the spirit of Darkcoin alive
b) Send a clear message to the crypto community, just like OpenBazaar did, of the mission statement actually having strong morals behind it, so much so it's community is willing to have a name change.
c) Massively simplify transition, one huge less headache and man hours to deal with (the logo and lettering style)
d) 98,37% of the world population still has no clue about BTC anyway, and the re-brand with this amazing team, would kick some serious butt in the VC field, with an honest face, in all directions

This should absolutely be a full re-brand, done professionally by a reputable firm. It's time for the next level.

Like but you need to integrate the Dark D...

I saw others mention that, I think that is moving backwards. I will try adding in little flicks (just for you!)

As has been said, I believe that this change will be for the best, after my wall was sold in to completely there were no walls at all for a considerable period of time during this controversy, I think that was some good free market price discovery of where today's natural floor would be in difficult conditions, the coins that were sold to me are now effectively removed from the open market and will join the masternode network in strengthening the coin, my present wall is 100 BTC @ 0.01 on Finex if anyone would like to exit a large position, it won't be removed or lowered, there's also 30 BTC worth of bids on Cryptsy at the same price.

Is the wall still in place or is the current rise in price subject to that wall?

The wall is still in place, as are the 30 BTC bids on Cryptsy, they are relatively minor backstops now.

Edit: sounds like I should take a look at the current price, sounds promising, I haven't for a couple of hours or so.

I do like it, I think we should preserve a nod to Darkcoin though....

It's slowly growing on me as well. Let me give you 2 reasons why:

[1] - any name that is 'survivable' when you first come across it is potentially a great name, not because of what it is but because of what you can make it mean. Dash works for me because it it is memorable and has a subtle dovetail with Darkcoin's heritage (they share the same root letters)

[2] - Evan is right in establishing the roadmap to capitalise on the generality of the dual-layer technology he's come up with rather than the specific. The word 'Dash' embodies both the privacy aspect (by way of a hat tip to Darkcoin) and the efficiency aspect (rapid confirmations, lightweight, scaleable)

Remember. Darkcoin was never about dark markets. It was about something much bigger and more mainstream - supporting regular personal financial dignity, commercial competitiveness (by way of mitigating 3rd party mining of a business's cash movements) and providing users with the privacy they already expect from existing money systems.

The more I think about it the more I think it's a great name that really does do justice to what this technology is doing. It also seems to be attracting new interest already now that "that obstacle' is out of the way.

The fact that all that can be crammed into 1 syllable is pretty cool as well.

We should not look a gift horse in the mouth.

 Indeed !

No no no.

Make the Darkcoin D, a mirror C, by removing the vertical line in the D

My wife is a big Darkcoin supporter and thinks DASH is great and she's always right.

She's definitely not pointing a knife to me at this moment.  (help!)

That will only be credible and believable if Mrs Stonehedge posts here to confirm.

She read this thread once and vowed never to come back.  She's on DCT though.

You are on my ignore list because of your trolling. Lucky for you your post was quoted or i never would have saw your comment.  Have a nice day.

We all make mistakes in the heat of uncertainty.

I'm a recent supporter of spreadcoin. I actually bought some after the dev went AWOL and the community started to gather together to take on the project. I also got some because the solo mining thing was effective against pools but was proved to be ineffective against private pools.

This is absolutely wrong, I run/ran a pool for SPR, the problem was/is that SPR was so ultra-cheap that noone invested the time to get "normal" pool software ported to SPR's special features. It is like adapting to a new algo.

The whole anti-pool thing is totally non-functioning in SPR and was always just a middle to feign some special feature and get "normal" people in to buy coins.

SPR is nothing but a 1:1 clone of an old darkcoin source with a few (!) mods making in incompatible with standard-stratum software...

So we are in agreement.

The 'no pools' thing was not the reason I got involved.

Being based on DRK meant there was a focus on master nodes <-- my only area of interest.

Once 2FA has been implemented I can see companies offering to insure your DASH holdings for a very small monthly fee because the risk of having your DASH stolen (even from hackers and physically from thieves) will be very very low but the insurance will give you that extra peace of mind and people will no longer need governments to guarantee their money.

Along with anonymity, speed, security, ease of use, mobile and daily billion plus transaction capabilities... Well, at that point I can only see DASH increasing in popularity extremely quickly.

DASH will be the PERFECT CASH... Will it surpass Bitcoin? I'm pretty sure it will in the next 2 years at its current a pace.

I've followed Dark since the beginning and although I am not a huge fan of the name 'dash' it is slowly growing on me and I think there are alot of other names that could be a lot worse too.
