So I can understand vertoe's feelings. Also (s)he is all for Dark/Deep Internet as I know and was doing a lot to move in that direction.

But this ain`t gonna chance is it? If it is, I actually am disappointed. I don`t care much about the name Darkcoin. Actually I was slightly worried about it limiting the target group, but I really liked the target group it adressed (Deep Internet etc.). As far as I get it right now, we now focus on those people AND the rest, so both. We don`t drop the former, but add the latter, right?

please, do not let your beliefs blind you.....I have to evaluate, re-evaluate and decide do I want to be invested in something that does not want to change the world but wants to be "accepted" before it is crushed by the same enemy this compromise tries to appease.

wozzek, I acknowledge your sentiments and am sure many are feeling the same way.

But I urge you to look at it in another context for a moment. "Letting your beliefs blind you" - for me - amounts to believing for one moment that the name "Dark" makes a blind bit of difference to 'changing the world'.

As you've already pointed out, the world "out there" is a lot darker than this project will ever be. Although it might give a few youthful crusaders a ripple up their spine, in practice it's about as threatening as a box of chocolates. Personally, I don't give a jip about the name - they can call it whatever they like for what I care as long as it does the job of identifying the project and the currency.

I agree about Vertoe - it's a damn shame to loose someone like that, but at the same time I'm disappointed that they couldn't be bigger minded about it. It's maybe worth having a word with Evan about but definitely not ditching the project over.

There are plenty of precedents to see how each option would have played out. The "dead coins" list is full of great symbology - from nations to atoms - that never lived up to their name because of lack of realism.

Then there's Dark Wallet. That was supposed to "change the world" and now it's gradually being seen for what it is - a couple of nerdy anarchists (no offence to nerdy anarchists - I am one  Wink ) in their house trying to type out their idea of a free world. But it means nothing to anyone else - latest "funding round" amounts ot the grand total of 2 BTC.

Names are important. But if they start to become toxic then they need to be ditched and I for one am thankful we've got a dev who isn't too myopic to do it.

If people really think they're compromising something precious with the name "Darkcoin" then I just think they haven't seen enough of the world yet.

Nailed it again Tok with a comprehensive summation of the fundamental bits in this (somewhat depressing frankly) controversy.

Maybe we should just call it Tock. I can see some sort of charity drive with people being sponsored for knitting garments for homeless people "Tocks for Socks".....yes and the newsreaders going through the financials on the nightly TV newscast "The Dow is up, the Euro's down against the US dollar, gold is steady but the Tock has rallied once again to all new highs!"

So I'm still catching up.

So people seriously dumped because of a name change possibility?  I can see a name change setting DRK back in marketing in the short term, but the coin did not change!  I didn't fall in love with Darkcoin because of the name.  I may be partial to the name, but I'm not mindlessly married to it.  I seriously can't understand anyone letting their emotions go off the deep end over this.

One thing I can say, is Evan is impulsive and will become enthusiastic about something - a new idea, a better idea, hell he recoded everything once because he came up with a better idea.  It's this incredible impulsivity, that burst of energy that he gets, that makes him so good at what he does!  But maybe it's not good in the diplomacy department.

Take Verto, if he left because Evan didn't consult him, well, I'd have to say that was as impulsive as Evan's announcement.  I'm certain Evan didn't mean to discount anyone else's input, he just felt he knew what needed to be done and wanted to get the ball rolling.  No other thoughts, just "OK, I'm convinced now that we must do this, so let's go!"  It's just how he is.  He isn't a diplomat.  He's a brilliant inventor, thinker and coder.  Not a CEO!  Yet he is put essentially in a CEO's position.  Remember Steve Jobs anyone?

At least Evan is actually a super incredible nice person, unlike Mr. Jobs (sorry Steve, but you know you were a pain - you're still well loved!).

Anyway, if any of you out there are feeling suddenly nervous, please let me assure you, the worst thing you cold do right now is watch this family fight and think it's going to break apart.  Families don't break up that easily.  So unless you're so angry you have to quit, I suggest you laugh at everyone and sit tight.
That's a good one. I'm 50/50 myself actually because I like how Darkcoin sounds (it sounds cool, no doubt) and we put a lot of effort in this brand/name. All these mentioning everywhere and such... This work will have to be done again almost from scratch if we change name... Sigh...
So I can understand vertoe's feelings. Also (s)he is all for Dark/Deep Internet as I know and was doing a lot to move in that direction.
But I can also understand Evan's vision. We can't tie ourself to mostly illegal activities (or how it looks for general public) for too long if we really want to bring financial privacy to everyone.
What was/is still used on Deep/Dark web to pay for smth? Dollars. Euros. AnyKindOf"Normal"Currency. And even Bitcoin. Just the same as you would pay on Clear Internet. We don't have to call ourselves DarkSmth to be used on Deep/Dark Internet. Think of it this way for a moment: cash is always cash. There is no special "criminals only cash" or "general public cash". It depends on how you USE it.

With that being said I really hope vertoe is not gone... we'll have to fix some broken windows in our house when (s)he is back but that's ok.
As for naming exactly DASH - well, it may serve well as some kind of acronym with DigitalCash as full name (or smth like that) and DSH as a ticker for example.

Wow....

You guys are blaming vertoe for quitting, wtf? She was a major investor, a core dev, and the whole discussion was done behind her. And you do not understand why she is so upset. I mean, are you serious?
On one hand, she might not agree with a name change. But she is probably way more upset because of being left out of the conversation totally, and selectively some whales / foundatino members (wasn't she a foundation member as well?) were included.

Same with Propulsion. And moli. And manyo thers...

Sure, you can say thanks for the cheap coins, have a good life, etc. But this all comes off arrogant. The coin WILL miss the input of the aforementioned people.

I am against the name change. But executed properly, we all would have accepted it to some degree. This was terrible. So many bright minds together, and this was the end result.

Please field test an idea first. Involve as many important people as possible. Make sure not to leave out key players.
Then comunicate clearly!!! I still do not know if we changed the name... Abnormal. Seriously, did we?

Oh, and about redistribution. Vertoe's 50k goes to the biggest whale who is around 10% of all coins now. And you call this redistribution.
I like Otoh, no offense, but we shouldn't be fanboyish. He alone can kill the market. This is an inherent risk with such a huge whale.

Do not make such mistakes again. Please.

well, my 2 cents

Exactly!

After thinking more about this, I actually think we should stay as Dark Coin....

I like the name, I dont think we need to be worrying about mass adoption yet, bitcoin is nowhere near that and there is nothing wrong with its name...

I think this idea should be dropped...

Re the Kardashian think, I pointed that out earlier... I think its a bad choice...
