LOL when OTOH sees the re-branding and pulls his walls cause he to is a DARKcoin lover

Come up with a better name then.

simple.... DARKCOIN

+1. There is no better name. Darkcoin is the namebrand, has the SEO on search engines, and conveys the message that the currency is about anonymity. Change that and you've got nothing left.

But it seems Evan couldn't give two fucks about what the community wants, and instead becomes a totalitarian ruler, changing the name when he feels fit.

What a fucking monarchy..... Dumb fucking idea and the market will reflect it with a decline...Traders sell and and catch much lower

Edit: people on BTC-e already laughing at the dumb fucking name... You realize DARK will always be associated to the new name and taint its "freshness"

I am pretty sure OTOH is a supporter of changing brands as part of the natural evolution of the project.

D{C}ash is actually a pretty slick name. The argument's are pretty solid for the change. I think this will stop alot of the trolling as well.

Aren't you a Monero guy ?

Are you saying that because you don't like the name and your hoping we'll go with it ?

Why negative way its all about looking cool ? We can hit bigger market than your small geek world with a better name than dark.

Growth up,open mind, and be more progressive for the best of the coin.

Our potential future big customer will probably be chinese, which represent 70% of bitcoin market. We need to take it on consideration...

DASH.

I've tried. But, sorry, I'm not feeling it.

I've always (yeah, here he goes again) said the name was good for a while but needed to be changed for the future.

But DASH? Really?

Thought experiment:

In bar, looking cool. Checkout a tall blonde and slide across to have a chat.

'Hey, can I get you a drink, they take DASH here....let's get a bottle of Louis.'

"That'll be 100 DASH, sir."

See. Sorry, I'm just not feeling it, or her, cause she'll be off in a dash with that name.

I'm 100% with you, I don't mind a rebranding at all. If it doesn't in a rush with a terrible name and supporters of the new name shouting it everywhere like the decision is final already. You described exactly what I feel when imagining using "dash" in public. It feels bad, really bad. Even saying do you take darkcoin sounds really sweet even in a bar or anywhere else. Dash is not a marketable name and it doesn't follow a lot of marketing principles on what makes a name good. Visa, Nike, Nesquik, Apple, Oculus, Valve. All names that are catchy, short, have a punch to them. Dash is soft and weak.

Whilst I support the name change - Dash hasnt grown on me yet....

Its just too boring and sounds harsh when you say it...."Got some Dash bro"

Ripple for instance I like the sound of, rolls off the tongue easily.

Need to put some effort into community brainstorming some cooler names before its set in concrete imo

I wrote my opinion on dct so I'll do it here as well.
I have strange mixed feelings about rebranding. It can change a lot in possitive and negative way.
I love the actual name because it brings a lot with its meaning and is hard and beautiful as it sounds. Dash is OK oy for extended name Digital Cash but as DASH I only imagin the detergent.

Hmmm hmmmmmmm...

Sorry but we're not all living in murica where detergant #1 is called dash. Darkcoin is for all around the world...

For us it's a shock but the core foundation members and dev team have surely been discussing this idea for some time now.

They must have weighted the pros and cons before the final decision.

We should let this sink in, sleep over it and think about the advantages and disadvantages for some time before making our own mind.

In the end the value is in the source and the dev team and that isn't going to change.

Not really you would be surprise to see the weight the branding has over the substance of the product.  Going forward we can focus on Dash being more fungible than other solutions, etc.  It does make an enormous difference.   Another extremely important factor is that in China Darkcoin was translated as "Diavolo"  the Devil coin, no kidding,  and some potential opportunities there require a name change.  When we change names they will be forced to use a different Kanji and anything other than Devilcoin will be better.

In China there is a practice that is very important in business mian-tze or giving face, this means exalting the prestige of someone else by showing respect and allowing them to shine.  Adding the Devilcoin to your service wouldn't give you face, so the largest exchanges would be harder. As we change to Dash a new Kanji will be used, facilitating this process. We need to be culturally aware of non-Western markets.

What nonsense is this?

Some Chinese decided to mistranslate the name so now we must change our name in the hope that they wont mistranslate it again? I'm sure they have a word/symbol for 'dark' that they could use if they wanted to.

I bet they'll just start calling it 'detergent' or 'laundry' coin anyway. I'm sure that will save a lot of face all round!

Yeah still not sure. I've a feeling it is what it is. Makes sense. Feeling major fanboy confusion though.

At least there could be a DashHund.
