You seen the rise and rise of Bitcoin?

When the dude Skyped his mates from his family holiday because his BTC Asics arrived and he was getting them to install them instantly I laughed my ass off.  That was when BTC was around the $50-$100 mark.  I could relate...

Picture the virgin adopters, the academics that were on the original Satoshi communication about BTC.

There would still be a lot of guys around that mined as a novelty for the first 1-2 weeks and are sitting on a ton of BTC...

Yeah, as far as I know that's just if your MN got forked, it shouldn't be there, or should be changed.

Here's how to check if your OK. This is going by right now as in this minute.

Code:
./darkcoind getblockcount
As of right now that is 163675
Code:
./darkcoind getblockhash 163675
000000000003df09e2e0b253d7d4a1721bf2842100cc84a3828a4f493d31bc88

If it returns the above, you do not need to reindex the client.

Or check here: http://explorer.darkcoin.io/chain/Darkcoin

sorry
i do not understand this

am on a MAC
i can stop and start
but my MN's still seem on the wrong fork when i check the
https://drk.mn/masternodes.html

how do i use this ? --reindex command ?
the commands above are for PC ?

In terminal on mac just start the client with the --rescan flag after it. So if the qt daemon was saved on your desktop and it was named 'darkcoin-qt', in terminal it would be
Code:
propulsion@S7 ~/Desktop $ ./darkcoin-qt --rescan

tx props
whow terminal ! ok la
but my QT is on the right fork
the MN is not !
is terminal talking to the MN to get him back on right fork ?

First before anything else, we need to resolve the issues with enforcement and uncheatable payouts to the masternode network. Second, it makes sense to have instantx. Once those two things are in play, I say game on. Do I think DRK will replace BTC, no, but it certainly has enough potential to justify massive upside and change the landscape of privacy, as well as digital transactions globally.

chicken and egg situation.

developers are not going to leave bitcoin. but if more did, then we could get to where we want to be a lot faster.

Hard to imagine venture capital and infrastructure just magically switching from BTC to DRK, especially given the regulatory oversight already lingering with BTC.

2 years ago, it was hard to imagine VCs put money into bitcoin - that funny money used mainly on silk road and for online gambling  Wink

At what point did the crossover start taking place?  Must be good too see it develop over time, I only joined 12 months ago so I've missed out on a lot of the history.

Totally agree with this.

I was about to approach some Australian businesses formally with regards to integrating DRK into their point of sale process, when I heard about Instant(tx) I pulled back immediately because this was my one issue with crypto.  Even a lightning fast network like DRK, occasionally can still take 5-10 minutes for initial confirmations.  I would feel far more confident and enthusiastic approaching businesses with Instant(tx) in place.

The non technical won't understand all the magic that takes place under the bonnet, they will just call the network slow.

Say I owned a gun, and that it had a serial number.

If I could link that serial number to a counterpaty registered asset that I controlled. Then I could prove ownership of that gun.

If I wanted to sell the gun, I could sell it for DRK and transfer the counterparty details to the purchaser. All that could be done anonymously. It would be like paying cash as part of the transfer of asset ownership.

Oh, shit....I won't be able to sleep tonight thinking about the potential of DRK 2.0

Governments could buy and sell fighter jets or nuclear subs with a few crypto clicks  Grin

Great post oblox. BTC will remain king for the foreseeable future and DRK will thrive under it. 2nd place instead of (the very useless and certainly not silver to BTCs gold anything) LTC is where we need to be in the future. I do believe that there is another BTC boom coming soon enough and with BTC around 4000-5000$ and DRK anywhere between 0.01 and 0.05 BTC we'll have something amazing going on.

This is also another really interesting angle to approach this one at.

About a month ago, I was telling my cousin about Bitcoin and Darkcoin and integration with existing financial platforms and he said to me in a light-bulb moment:

Ahhhh, so when everyone using Bitcoin finds out it's not as anonymous as everyone thought, they will switch to Darkcoin!!

It got me thinking... Do we need Bitcoin to be bigger first before we want this cryptographic transcendence to take place?

Now would be a good time to take over.

It wouldn't cost too much for everyone to start switching over, or start thinking about a plan B.

There is a lot of VC money staked in BTC on projects yet to go live - they can also start switching over before they start spending money on marketing.

We are just seeing a big market consolidation, only the very strong will survive and DRK has come up pretty good if you ask me.

The scamming is not Crypto's fault, it's human nature.

You take a poor village in a remote part of the world, give them an internet connection and an unregulated money supply, they will do everything in their power to scam everyone they can.  They will rationalise it too by taking the "we are poor and they are rich" stance.

You also lose a lot of empathy and compassion behind a computer screen, so the average Joe that wouldn't dream of snatching a purse from an old lady, is quite happy be more adventurous online under the guise of "It's an Open Market".

So there is the state of modern crypto.

You've got your right wing traditionalists that wont even touch Crypto without compliance and regulation in place, you have your left wing libertarians that will resist any form of control points or regulation, the real solution we end up with in 10 years time will be somewhere in the middle.

That's what they always say.

W

Whether this is just a really bad run we are having or the regulators themselves hiring shills to cause disruption, we need some regulation.

Who will regulate the regulators?  That's a large problem we are facing.

How do we regulate without destroying the essence of Crypto?  Is it even possible?

there is no "some" in regulation !!!
ether they step in and control everything
or they stay out !
let them stay out we do not need regulations !
as they will run this system down, corrupt it with greed (even more)  as they did to the banks !!

Let them regulate. The more regulation, the better.  The sooner they start locking up Bitcoin users, the better.

what do we need to create a clearinghouse / counterparty for DRK?

We can then point at a real asset, like gold, know it exists somewhere safe, yet the financial transaction around its ownership and transfer of ownership can remain anonymous?

Money, patience and connections... Are we there yet?

I thought we just needed to connect with the Viacoin team....they already have the infrastructure in place, or being built. What they don't have is DRK. The two can go together very well, IMO.
