Why so few people here support p2pool and concentrate hash in centralized mining pool ?
with p2pool you mine to YOUR wallet directly, have hundreds of fail over nodes, and from my experience you get more coins.

and do something for spreading / decentralizing hash.

why so negative attitude towards p2pool ?

I was setting it up, but realized my node would be out there for everyone to see, making me feel a little bit exposed because I was going to do it off my home machine.  I don't want to invite people to break into my machines.  Is there a way to do this without exposing your IP address?

Want peered p2pool for solo mining ?
Block worker port from outside.
P2pool drk : use tcp 7903 for miners.

Yeah, don't host it on your home connection, they are not meant to be. Get a $5 / month VPS and set it up there. Hosting on your home connection is bad for lots of reasons.

well, if you dont nat your private ip and needed ports, you can atill have it running, getting work, beeing connected to p2pool network, but noone except you can access the ports work port.

and to be on secure side, just mine to for exsmple paper wallet address you created, or any othe drk address, for example installed on separate machine.

there is no bi risk running a p2pool node in my opinion, as there are no funds at stake.

Stop promoting a bad any coin in here.  Cool

DRK is the advertisement bed of other coins, day traders, sock puppets and shills these days. Like they are all looking for validation here.

XMR is not a bad coin, but some zealots are making sure it will never see big success by spamming everywhere. i have diluted some of my XMR to BBR and am going to support zoidberg some more in the future.

I've had bad experiences with P2Pool from my Vertcoin days (a long time ago in a land far far away)...

Pool owners were running nodes on their 486's using slow domestic connections, and I never trusted such a high error rate.

If you know of any good P2Pool's please let me know and I'd like to give them a try.  I will be switching a large part of my farm back to DRK in the next few days...

Been Mining there. Great P2Pool

I'm surprised some of these non-compliant pools have not been outed yet. What about getting their IP addresses?

Evan, the main Dev, does not want to be a "dictator" and force (ban) them. That is as simple as flipping the "spork" button on. We're giving them a chance of being part of Darkcoin in spirit, rather that in "shit-coin-get-rich-quick" enforcement.

Oh, that'll never work.  They're not going to be team players, they want the extra 20%.  We really can't do anything about it until RC4 is out.  Flipping the switch will cause issues we'd rather avoid and Evan needs a little more time to implement the new enforcement system.  It won't be long, I just hope those that are team players continue to be for the next couple of weeks so that people's anger won't be so bad, but rather appreciative.  I appreciate all miners that are supporting the coin, thank you all!

It's much better to support the coin, because it helps support the current value.  And I believe the value of Darkcoin will go up exponentially after RC4 is out.  The higher our price at that point, the higher it will be boosted (IMO)  This is my guessing.  I really don't understand these market dynamics, but I'm glad that guy told us about is (unimaginable) dump because the unthinkable reason for the price drop (somebody selling off in huge chunks, dumping their coins for really low returns) was the only logical reason and turned out to be true!  Which gives me faith that the world still runs on logic, LOL.

IP address of the pool/solo miner should be viewable from debug information? I think BTC and LTC guys do it for all blocks in the chain.

well, use http://drk.poolhash.org/scanner.html to find 2-3 closest one to you, and use them in your config.
you can try my node too, http://ca.p2pool.sk:7903, but its in europe. so just use one of the closest one.
also have multiple nodes configured, to have fail over nodes.

remember, p2pool is pplns, and it takes at least 24h to get to the full payment levels. this is preventing pool /coin hopping, so 24x7 miners are best served.
And variance is higher than on mpos pools, but you should end up mining more.

I don't think you'll ever get a large chunk of those pools to update.  Why should they?  Their options at this point are to lose 20% profit for themselves and their miners, or keep as-is and have a few hours of downtime/wasted mining when the switch is finally flipped.  If they get some notice of the exact RC4 release time then they don't even have that penalty because they can literally wait until the last minute to update.

I say just give it enough time where nobody responsible enough to run a pool can use the "I didn't know there was an update" excuse, then flip the switch.  If it were up to me that time is about now.
