I have toyed with the idea of running a MN on dedicated nix box behind a dedicated smoothwall box but it would be on a standard consumer fibre line.

with unnecesasary services turned off and firewall + antivirus installed.
Please please please do it. You will have given me 1000 DRK within 2 weeks of you launching it. I'm not even a little bit joking. The number of attack vectors I would have is unreal. Not as bad as say running a MN on win xp (god forbid...), but still.with unnecesasary services turned off and firewall + antivirus installed.
So basically no one should even run their standard wallets on windows 7?
So much for going mainstream.

The main reason, is a MN should only be run on dedicated hardware that is NOT doing anything else, even if that is just browsing facebook. And there is not a true server in the world running windows 7. If you must run it on a windows server, fine, but on a locked down win server 2012.
And most importantly, not on a residential connection.

It's so funny how dramatic cryptsy's graph looks, it only spans .016 to .018 and what used to be small looking variations now look huge, LOL. Been that way for some time. At least it makes a basically flat line look exciting

Just wondering how our DRK will react, now that scrypt asics with reasonable power are not just pre-orders anymore.
There may be short term aberrations, but probably not even noticeable. Probably only detectable on low volume pools, and only internally at that. Mostly due to derpminers not realizing that alt x11 coins do not live in their own walled garden...
If that is the case, you shouldn't really worry about it, more miners, more decentralization.
He was talking about the influence of upcomming asics onto the scrypt networks. Means what happens if scrypt gpu miners no longer are able to mine with their gpu's and switch over from scrypt to x11 and eventually to mining DRK. Thats all. There is no know asic for x11 for now.

Is everyone (who hasn't already loaded the DRK boat) going to sit and watch first to see if MN payments work correctly this time, and therefore volume will deplete more and more and price do nothing?

Judging by how low volume has been I am guessing the latter, traders may be skeptical and waiting out the uncertainty to buy after the fork. I kind of prefer that to big rally then sell the news!OR
