Over 50% of master nodes are hosted on Amazon.  Undecided

I think a lot of the folks are just familiar with renting EC2s via free signup. These are not robust enough to run MN in my opinion, hopefully they start moving out after becoming familiar with the set up. The VPS provider accepting DRK would be a good fit to run a few MNs.

IMO they follow the guide to the letter. Maybe we have to provide a more universal guide to setup with other hosts.

Darkcoin accepting Flokinet in Iceland is a good choice. You can find my affiliate link for them at http://darkproxy.is or http://darkproxy.eu

Also remembered this list: http://www.exoticvps.com/

Currently "Listing 680 exotic VPS hosts in 97 exotic locations throughout 8 regions. In total, there are 767 entries. ExoticVPS.com was most recently updated on 2014-05-25."

What would be the minimum requirements/specs of the server needed for a masternode?

Hey guys, there is no way I can make my nodes show on Chaeplins list, yet when I do masternode list, in the node itself they show as being active.  Should I add some nodes to the conf file? What do you recommend? I would really appreciate the help.

can someone please help me return  my bitwisdom chart to the standard view?

it currently looks like this:
http://www.imageurlhost.com/images/9maj0y6qnsrgmtw0r1p7_thumb.png
i'm not actually sure how i managed to change it, but it should look like this:

http://www.imageurlhost.com/images/ikweo7d45j18dp5j46b_thumb.png

EDIT: Sorry i just realised this isn't in the appropriate thread

It's the time intervals. You've selected WEEKS instead of hours. (higher part of the screen)

that's what i thought at first, but actually they are both set to 1hr...i don't get it?
as you can see although set to 1hr, the frequency of x is really low resolution for some reason compared to usual

Anybody know how to undo a wallet.dat file that I copied over.

If you're using Windows, you could try Properties > Previous Versions. I haven't tested it myself and I'd back up anyway before trying.

im using windows 8.1 and don't see previous versions in the properties tab for the wallet.dat file
ok I found it but it didn't reset the wallet back to the original address.
any other ideas?
Restore from backup. You have backups, right?
cmon if had a backup i'd have restored it already. so heres the problem I xxx coins in an old xcoin wallet that wouldn't sync anymore. so I tried to update the wallet to darkcoin only to find I had a new darkcoin wallet  confused by this I tried to send my coins from the old xcoin wallet that wasn't syncing to the new darkcoin wallet of course the new wallet wouldn't show the transaction because the old wouldn't sync to make the transaction. so I followed some advice to add the xcoin wallet.dat file to darkcoins without knowing the extent of the changes I copied over the darkcoin wallet.dat file. so now I have my old xcoin wallet in the darkcoin wallet all synced up ready to work minus the xxx coins id transferred to the darkcoin wallet. hind sight is 20/20 obviously a huge mistake but its gotta be reversible right? .....

Related question for anyone who knows better than me: all you should need is the wallet address and the corresponding private key to access the coins in that address. Import the private key into a wallet and bingo, you have your balance back, just no transaction history.

Is this correct?

Do a dumpprivkey, make a note of it, and if you lose your wallet for whatever reason you can still recover?

Don't setup masternodes, if you have no background/skills in administrating and securing/hardening a UNIX server.

You WILL get hacked.

So if you dont have these skills, you should REALLY get them (by learning/reading) before setting up a masternode.

call HP to restore your lost data. Hope their price is not more than your coins Smiley

Yeah might have to list some other providers that people should move to.
I might move mine to a dedicated server.

Think about it, the only reason for this it that Chaeplin step by step guide if for Amazon and includes screenshots. If you have the ability, create guides for a few other options, people will happily use them.

For the same reason, everybody wants to start collecting from the beginning and Amazon is a quick way to do that, I will have a few running there from the start and will take the time to move to other places next week.

Finally, Evan and Kyle must be really busy with the fork and development, after a few days I am sure they will take some time to come up with best practices and recommendations for running masternodes, and people will follow.   So it is a crawl, walk run situation, we will be fine.

Don't forget to update your p2pools today. The new code with masternode support is available at https://bitbucket.org/dstorm/p2pool-drk

Port numbers have changed to 8999 for p2p and 8998 for workers. You may want to change the worker port to 7903 or port forward if you are currently running a pool.

On mainnet you will only see "Testing bitcoind P2P connection to '127.0.0.1:9999'..." until the hardfork because it doesn't support both protocol versions.

I'm on IRC if you need any help.

To existing p2pool-drk owner,  prepare to update, use dstorm's https://bitbucket.org/dstorm/p2pool-drk .
Two scripts for existing p2pool-drk owner.
