Maybe the entire theme behind a media push could be "Screw Paypal!"  Just like a meme and we get it to take off.  That is one of the greatest benefits of virtual currencies by the way.  The power and ease in which you can send money internationally to anyone anywhere without fees.....and if you use Darkcoin to do it....with full privacy.

If you want to advertising in that category(expensive), then having billboards for Darkcoin in Times Square would be great.

That looks perfect, especially since most people use phones and/or google, that should gauge their interest to find out what Darkcoin is after seeing that billboard. NYC alone has 9million people, with Manhattan/Times Square being the busiest area.
A ton of tourists mostly. As well as the people who work in the area. Also a ton of theater goers.  If you live in New York, you tend to stay far away from times square. (Disclaimer: Long time resident) Most immediate impact would be the media hoping all over it. This sort of happened with this Venmo ad they had running in the subway. It was a picture of a guy with VENMO and a small blurb.

It turned into a miserable fail, however, the media was all over it. The media also jumped all over the joey harrington ad in times square(former football player promoted by Oregon? for the Heisman trophy). I think this is the most logical next step, get the media horny.
(Disclosure: I

Even those ads in the train stations could work, millions of new yorkers, tourists, etc ride the trains everyday.
If we do it right. Venmo took those ads down as it did nothing for them or their brand. People were actually negatively affected by the ads. I agree that if we do get ads in the subway, millions would be reached, but it has to be done correctly. That is far beyond my scope. Beyond just people, the media can be a huge driving force. Think of all the reported 'viral marketing stories' that get reported. Staten Island creepy clown. Nathan for you and the starbucks stunt or the animal park one. Baby satan rolling around nyc, or even the fake murder in an elevator. While reaching people is awesome, if the media jumps on, it gets supercharged.
What would be ideal is if we could get CNBC talking about Darkcoin.  Even if it was just some joe behind the fastmoney team on the street with a large Darkcoin posterboard saying "DARKCOIN, send money to anyone in the world, instantly and privately."  Or "Screw Paypal!  Only Darkcoin can send money anywhere safely and privately, for free!"

Very interesting comment for the Wired article:

Quote
You forgot to mention that Zerocoin is using totally unvetted cryptography and is being funded (in part) by the US Government (edit: "Acknowledgements ... The research in this paper was supported in part by the Office of Naval Research under contract N00014-11-1-0470, and DARPA and the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) under contract FA8750-11-2-0211. http://spar.isi.jhu.edu/~mgree..." ). Also, if their cryptography is ever broken, the entire blockchain history is made visible (not that the government would bother to tell anyone that they've broken it).

Tor is thought to be compromised by several intelligence and law
enforcement agencies. The extent to which its compromised is not known http://lifehacker.com/how-can-.... At bare minimum, Tor is under heavy attack from NSA and GCHQ and there have been limited inroads to compromise made by those agencies. This will only get worse. http://www.theguardian.com/wor...

Dark Wallet and Sharecoin have a centralized mixing models, where it's necessary to trust that the people to whom you're sending your money for mixing aren't snooping, that they won't just outright steal your money, and that their centralized (read: honeypot) service has not been compromised by intelligence or law enforcement. No thanks.

Darkcoin is the only viable candidate for decent anonymity and security on this list. Thoroughly vetted cryptography, no centralization, no requisite trust of any central service to not be a bad actor or compromised (a la Dark Wallet and Sharecoin), if the crypto is ever broken the blockchain is still a total fog - oh and the Masternode network will host a private I2P array to anonymize IP addresses (no gambling with Tor).

If drk supporters could hold instead of trying to dump to buy cheaper...that would be great. The price would mature much faster.

You can also see it in this light: You have true DRK supporters who plan to hold for the long term but also want to increase their DRK stash... So the situation is getting better really because more coins are then owned by those who have a long-term position and are stronger believers than those who follow pumps & dumps, hopping from coin to coin creating long-term instability.

Remember though that the coins dumped at the peaks usually are bought by amateurs, driven by panic, who are as likely to panic sell short time later.
When the price is stable they are likely to get more interest in the investment and become serious about it.

In the world of greed, think about others, it pays off  Smiley

EDIT: Also, usually those able to successfully short, are the smart ones holding a lot already, so restraining will work a long way toward distribution too.

Is "shorting" another word for selling or can you actually borrow DRK somewhere?

Yes, selling to hold BTC then attempt to buy back at a lower price (increasing your holdings).

Shorting means you borrow from someone else, sell thiers, hope the price goes down - buy it back for a lower price - give it back to the guy that you borrowed from and pocket the profit Cheesy

While sniffing around, I see that the blackcoin multipool (pays out in blackcoin) can now mine X11 coins.

I'm pretty sure that they won't be mining darkcoin with it's high difficulty, but for those of us who want to mine x11 rather than scrypt, it could be an option to use that, then sell the blackcoin for drk?  I can't find any stats or metrics for the x11 mutlipool, so I'm not sure if it would be a more profitable way to get drk than mining directly..

Just sell high, re-buy lower, rinse and repeat, you have to own DRK no classic short (borrow) exchanges yet.

Easier said than done Smiley

+1, short shitcoins... but shorting darkcoins is a bit like shooting your own leg.

I know it's tempting, but coin & price rise will be much faster and more stable, win-win..

This is true.  I tried shorting (a few times) and LOST every time.  Now I am waiting for appropriate time to buy and will no longer attempt to short.
