BitCoin was adopted because it was a new technology with a use. DarkCoin is not new. It's jsut another cryptocurrency in the minds of the masses, if they even manage to hear about it. And said masses already view BitCoin as CrimCoin. DarkCoin only names itself worse... I don't give a shit what it's called, either. I don't give a shit about marketing, either. I DO give a shit about the success of a damn good idea, and naming it RapeYourDaughterCoin doesn't help it succeed.
Let me say it another way... I don't care if a guy has tattoos and piercings all over his face, if he does a damn good job, I'm giving him a raise. But, how many people like me do you think there are? How many job interviews will he be thrown out of before he finds me and I hire him?
There is a pall cast whether you like it or not. Anything cryptocurrency is already thought of as CrimeCoin. That's reality. Ignoring reality does not result in success. Naming it in a way that amplifies this already existing shadow doesn't help it succeed. That's just how it is.
I'm nobody's boss here, I could barely make the stuff work and am considered an asshole just because I'm not king high nerd. But this messenger knows what he is talking about. Ignoring reality will hurt your coin. If I invented RapeYourDaughterCoin and it did everything exactly the way BitCoin does, a perfect clone, and BitCoin never existed... How well do you think that would have gone? And that's in a vaccuum... You're not operating in a vacuum, a shadow is already cast, RapeYourDaughterCoin would do even worse today than it would have as the groundbreaking leader.
No, the name won't make it succeed. But, it can make it fail.
Ah yes... put somebody in a position where they have to defend something as ridiculous as "RapeYourDoughterCoin" coin ... nice tactic. I will re-brand it to (RYDC)
Your saying Bitcoin (BTC) was successful because it was new technology , I said because it solved double spend problem so we agree . You say dark coin is not new . If DRK (let' substitute RYDC) implements anonymous features first in the next few days that no other coin has in the most efficient way then you are incorrect. If RYDC was the only coin that was truly anonymous then yes I would use RYDC and so would you. You would use it because you are the type of person who can see past tattoos and piercings and value it based on what it is instead of an irrelevant name. If the decision comes down to conducting my illegal raw milk commerce in RYDC's or potentially getting tracked down I will use RYDC's.
People seem to think that using the coin in the way it is being designed (and arguably intended) is somehow wrong and we should pretend that it is not really the reason why this coin was created. I say embrace it.
The real reason people are complaining (probably earlier adopters) is because they see this as an investment instead of a currency. If I am going to trade my raw milk or illegal honey for DRK/RYDC do you think I care what the USD value is if I am converting or trading? Just like BTC If you are earning and spending coins tied back to a more stable value like USD (*relatively) then it does not affect you much. However it seems most people are not here for free market currency but more for get rich quick.
Government is going to drive adoption of something like this because of making everything over regulated and illegal (as I was referencing with milk and honey that non "criminals" can understand). "Dark" in the parlance of our time is about being hidden and anonymous and it is a positive thing not a negative. It's not just about heroin and kidiporn eventually most of us will have a use for something like DRK/RYDC because we will all be made into criminals. I can see it now kids speak easy lemonade stands because they have been shut down by bureaucrats and badge thugs and are accepting DRK and RYDC's.
What did RYDC's stand for I forgot... Kind of like how googole/google became a verb.
I'm not putting anyone in a position to defend RapeYourDaughterCoin. I'm making an analogy. Straw man, dead.
I'm not calling you wrong. I'm saying that ignoring reality does not change reality.
There exists a stigma. It's a fact. You've 'embraced' it, but who else will? You're essentially saying "Yes, we mean to be the CrimeCoin for which BitCoin only managed to be a half-measure." When you could be saying "It's no more criminal than cash."
You and I both know that there is no difference. Functionally, they do the same thing regardless of the propaganda or marketing. But propaganda and marketing do affect the weak minds of the general population. They already view BitCoin as CrimeCoin because they are weak-minded, so coming out and calling yourself WayMoreCrimeCoin isn't helpful. I'm not saying the sky will fall as a result, just that it isn't helping... I could wet my pants in a job interview, and it might not ruin my chances if everyone else does worse, but it isn't going to help me... I could just NOT wet my pants, how's that? Just like I can NOT stab myself in the eye with a rusty fork. I can also NOT name my altcoin in such a way as to make people even more stupidly wary of something they're already stupidly wary about... You can't force people to be smart. I've tried... I'm getting a DeJa Vu feeling... :-p
It's a moot point because changing the name at this point is silly. I still like ChameleonCoin tho...
Personally, I love Crime, and I'd love CrimeCoin. Crime is just the act of taking back human rights stolen by government. I'm proud of Crime. Crime is good. But, how many people understand that and agree with me? Maybe I should get an "I Love Crime" t-shirt...
