stealthcoin, shadowcoin, greybutnotsoshadycoin.... no point was made that day..

The next day though:

Anyone have a nice config for Sapphire r9 290?

rig 1 (2x290): d0 - 2040 Kh/s, d1 2150 Kh/s

rig 2 (7970,280x): d0 - 2050 Kh/s, d1 - 2100 Kh/s

I should be able to push the 290s right?

To be honest I don't see why the word "Dark" has to be relative to criminal activity... I'd say it's more relative to the anonymous aspect of the coin. The blockchain is in the dark, transactions made in darkness. Darkness provides a means to be unseen, and that's what DarkCoin is doing in a way.

I tend to agree with this.  The name itself will be the reason darkcoin is never widely accepted by, er, "normal" people (also can't think of the right word sorry).  It doesn't matter how great it is, give it a shady or evil sounding name and it's doomed.

Not that I condone criminal activity, but to be honest, that is how bitcoins gained some traction. I don't think any rational person will see the name darkcoin and say, oh, I can't use that, as it's an evil coin used for bad things. If so, they wouldn't use bitcoins or any currency either. It's not like someone made a coin called devilcoin (although give them time, they are sort of running out of names)....

Bitcoin - litecoin - darkcoin    ... has a nice ring to it, and perhaps darkcoin becomes the copper to litecoin's silver. Although litecoin isn't doing particularly well either lately.

Darkcoin will become the dark side of li(gh)t-coin Grin

DarkCoin is what bitcoin should have been. Some might call it "Bitcoin 2.0" but would do better by saying:
"DarkCoin is digital cash."

+1

But that's why I think its better to call it D-coin or something else (not related to dark)
New people will think that darkcoin is related to illegal things and thats not the intention, idea of it. Maybe it will scare/put off (I don't know the right word) some people...No?

Yeah, I do think the name exerts a drag on adoption. I was dismissive of DRK for a while for this reason and only came around after reading through this thread. But most people won't put in that effort.

Looking great. Some comments on this current state:

1. Logo should be more prominent somewhere, not just the little substitute for the D up in the top left.
2. Yellow highlighting and links doesn't look good among all the cooler color temperatures. Underlining or a background box upon hovering works. Light orange is better with blue if it needs to be a color. See this example from our corporate overlords for a blue/white website: http://www.mckinsey.com/insights
3. First image is negative and it's very busy/distracting with the white-on-white.
4. The favicon is a G for some reason.

Unfortunately there is no marketing. No PR. No dev interviews. Nothing. Its all hinged on darksend right now. The sooner that is up and running the better.

Agreed. A Google News search for "Vertcoin" returns 97 results; "Darkcoin" returns 1.

...and despite that mist of DRKness surrounding the coin, it was ahead of both Vert + Max before the ccex incident.

It all has to do with the fundamentals. You go over the list of coins and they're all junk with very few exceptions like DRK. This alone attracts the attention of the right BTC holders. If people want to make a quick buck there is a ton of those shitcoins out there to pump and dump. Hype attracts the second type of crowd which is like the guy who was "oh it's droppiiiiiiing" and getting disappointed. Apparently there are plenty of coins that rise every single day -guaranteed- for like months, and which can sustain drops in value despite fracked up situations with exchanges (cough, Bitcoin, cough) so I figure he's heading for them  Tongue

The coin is being dumped everywhere. Putting up a buy wall wont stop it. As long as dark send is not yet live, it will unfortunately continue. Right now its an aspiration to be the first. We're not there yet.

The problem is there is not enough demand at the moment for the steady supply of fresh coins.

That might be actually intentional Smiley I have a similar feeling about Vertcoin btw, that the creators want to give themselves more time before they start the hype machine on full steam.

Without any hype right now, and with all the dumps because of the hack on ccex... it's hard for it to go up. Praying for darksend.

It's just a question of rational buying. Why buy from the dumper at an elevated price? We wait for him to get lower and then buy as much DRK we can with the fewest BTCs possible. When the dumps are over and the cheap supply is over the price has only one way to go due to the scarcity of daily supply / low daily inflation.

Is it possible to use Darkcoin to send anonymous funds to protesters in Ukraine? Or get a protester to brandish the Dark coin brand asking for help on a news coverage. From that point we will post it on Reddit or something? Too far fetched?

Fly there, take a picture of yourself with such a sign, come back home... It's a really big country, Kiev is just one city... Round-trip airfare from my place to Sevastopol is approx $850. Already sent a few BTC to several guy's signs...

Too bad I can't send them guns to shoot back with... Much more valuable than the money right now.

I echo all of these sentiments. If we called cash "paper crime bucks" people would probably look down on that, too... BitCoin is already perceived as crime currency because of the media slant.

When you can say that DarkCoin is really "just a digital form of the cash you already use," it undermines that dirty media and government propaganda against cryptocurrencies. So, if you can do that in just a name, why not do it? Why deliberately attach yourself to the negative aspect?

I agree, this looks like what BitCoin should have been from the beginning. Real digital cash for the people. But damn, why bring it down by functionally naming it "crime money?" Erk! For the volume of crypto involved, name it cryptcoin.... Or digicoin, or bytecoin, or ciphercoin, damn, anything but crimecoin... Lols.

Ok, will be there Smiley  BTW, do you know what went wrong?

Yes, someone from a previous test did not clear their block chain so it caused a fork in the testnet. I added a checkpoint into the source so the clients won't be tricked again.

I must haev missed somethin.. is the hack on ccex related to darksend?

No, not at all.  Apparently, a guy found himself with 150-300 bitcoin that he didn't own, and in a gut reaction decided to transfer it into dark as a vehicle to move it  out of C-Cex before it was found out and cashed out on cryptsy, er polonex.  Then he felt guilt and tried to reimburse C-Cex, but a lot of the money was wasted and the market hasn't recovered.  I don't know if this guy is telling the truth and has actually tried to make amends but that's the story.  Darkcoin just happens to be what the guy chose as his vehicle to move the funds.

anonymousxx1503 above has the story down a bit better, LOL

People who like money: get on this coin now.

Look the current price of Auroracoin. It's based on the hope the good folk of Iceland (population 300,000 odd) take up the coin for transactions.

Imagine the price of DarkCoin if it becomes the global coin of choice for anonymous transactions - adult entertainment, black market, anyone who wants privacy.

You do the math. I could be wrong but I imagine there will be a few more than 300,000 people wanting to use it.

i have a feeling that aurora is going to be dumped soon.. its just a gut feeling but anyway

... every time i think Okay im gonna buy some darkcoin caz its cheap now ... i see a dumping been watching exchanges for the last 24 hours ... unstopping dumping everytime someone put buy order higher than 0.001 or 0.0011  it get dumped to 0.00095-0.00098 .... then he wait and again and again .....

how many coins do that dumper got ....

I don't know but I sincerely hope it continues until end of day Wednesday because I bought bitcoin again that won't clear until then, LOL.  I couldn't resist with these prices, but I'm gonna miss the boat, I know it!
